4 MATCH REPORTS U10-2 s Major Semi Final Helensburgh 22 St Johns 12 Well done and congratulations lads, straight through to the Grand Final!!! After school holidays and wash outs, it was great to see the sun and Saturday footy and what a game, the young tigers came up against a St Johns team that is always tough and has not lost many games themselves but we started pretty well...ball handling and set plays working well and we dominated around the centre of the park, Joel, Kye and Dane were busting them open at will and had St Johns on the back foot many time during the opening 15 mins but the scored were still nil nil...st Johns tried hard to counter attack with some solid runs but they were constantly cut down by Benny and Slade with some consistent tough tackling...lachie and Dane were safe under the high ball when St John were clearing out of their zone and it was not long before Kye was over for his first try after a good attacking raid...st Johns bounced back with a try of their own after the bell and it was game on again, these 2 teams have always pretty closely matched in the past and nothing seemed to have changed today. Brad was a handful as usual and the St John defence struggled to contain him and Hawke was putting on some good hits in defence, Drew was smashing it up and also putting on some good hits and Cam was punching it up through the middle and was rewarded with a try for his efforts after a great solo run...slade continued to run hard being supported by Kane, Tye and James and we seemed to be taking charge again, our completion rates and discipline were good which was providing us with the advantage. Matt got a few runs out on the left side and always looks dangerous with the ball in his hands. St Johns did not give in an scored another try after we slipped off a few tackles, this was going to go down to the wire but the young tigers had other ideas, we went on another attacking run and Kye bagged himself another try with only a few minutes left on the clock the game was pretty close to done...solid effort boys, the week off before the GRAND FINAL so soak up the excitement and see you all at training!!! (apologies boys, I lost my match notes so hopefully I covered all the best bits off above!!!) Trys: Kye 2, Brad 1, Cam 1 Goals: I lost my list!!! sorry boys!! U12-2 s Major Semi Final Helensburgh 14 Wests 0 I am happy to start this match report off by saying WE ARE HEADING TO THE GRAND FINAL! After a nail-biting, hair pulling match, the boys got it together and eventually were too strong for the Wests side. Our first halves are usually extremely strong, however the boys were a little bit flat and mistakes and penalties didn't help the situation. Great defence on our own line kept us in the match and it wasn't until a near-length-of-the-field try by Damien Fahey that we took hold of the match. After a stern talking to at half time, the boys went back out and played the type of footy that we'd discussed about all week! This is what we need to do for the WHOLE 40 minutes boys! You do this, you will win! Special mention to Koen Thwaite for tackling like a machine all match. Take a leaf out of Koen's book boys, it's about having no fear and wanting to make the tackle. Joshua Drew also played his strongest match of the season and Kane Faust continues to be that spark we need in the second half. We now have a week off boys, then after that - the big one! You have all had an amazing season and I am very proud of what you have achieved so far. One more to go... A huge thank you to all the great parents involved with this team. Your support has been very appreciated! Of course, I wouldn't have been able to get by this season without my AMAZING manager Melissa Bell. She works tirelessly in a number of roles and has been a huge help for me this season. Thank you also to my great water runners Kurt Fahey, Jim Newey, Paul Burgmann, Gary Overton and Tony Baillie. The boys and myself are very grateful for your help. See you all at Dapto Showground in 2 weeks for the GRAND FINAL!!!!!! Congratulations to Royce Clarke and his 10-2's on also progressing to the Grand Final in 2 weeks. The Burgh locals will be out in full support!
5 U14-1 s Helensburgh 42 Berry 16 Tries: Dane 1, Bryce 2, Isaac 3, Phillip 1 Goals: Jesse 5, Zac 1, Robbo 1 Well what a turn-around this game was after our last two performances. The boys came out with a can do attitude scoring the first try of the game within the first few minutes. We had a couple of tries disallowed after that and went into half-time one try behind. Our second half performance was a vast improvement on our previous two games with the boys all working for each other and playing as a team keeping Berry to just one try in the 2 nd half. Good to see our guys score some well executed tries and to hear them talking about our drills and game-plans on the field. Lets go on with it now and finish the year winning our next two games and see where it takes us! Every player needs to attend training unless due to illness or absence, we cannot win games unless we all put in the effort.
