Local bait makers like Loke, Gotcha, Maison Muskie Killers, Lochness, along with members bringing in their extra gear for sale will be at this meeting. If you have something you would like to sell, bring it to the meeting. So bring some extra $$$$ and you might find the baits you ve been looking for. Sept. Derby Results/Year End Standings Calendar of Events Ruling on the Protests from August 2007 September/Past Presidents Derby, Len s Gas Dock @ Emerald City Marina September 8 th and 9th The 2007 Past President s Derby was held at Len s Gas Dock in Emerald City Marina. A special thank you to Len s for having us this year. Mother Nature made the muskie hunters work hard on Saturday with only two fish coming to the scale. First to the scale were Chuck Smith Sr. and his wife Pat fishing on Reel Fun. Chuck s fish was 34.10lbs which held up to give him the first place spot. Chuck and Pat had been fishing for about 20 minutes when the fish took the Ripper they were running.we worked on the fish in the tank for about three hours. There were a few times we thought the fish was going to make it. Then she just gave up and went belly up. Chuck said the fish will go on his wall Up North. Next to come in was the boat Shelby Kristy. Scott D Eath and family were fishing along with the Budzeak s. Michael D Eath had reeled in a nice fish coming in at 32.20 lbs. Michael was running a Wiley white belly perch. The fish was released. At the close of the day the fish was in second place. Sunday brought some wet weather and the fish were still in lock-jaw mode. Not mush talk on the radio told me Sunday was going to another long day. Around 11am Special T came a calling. It seams Jane Guy was teaching Dave how to fish! Jane brought in a nice 32.50 lbs.they were fishing in the South Channel when the Loke St. Lawrence went off. This fish moved into second place pushing Michael down to third. This fish was also released. That was how things ended up. In the Quick Release it was Kirk Cleland fishing on Blaze of Glory with a 49 ½ fish. They were fishing c- ball running a Ziggy Black Perch. In the Jr. Quick Release first place went to Kristy Budzeak fishing on Shelby Kristy along with her family and the D Eath s. Kristy s fish was 43 caught on a Wiley St. Lawrence. - 1 -

Remember, the last day of the MOMC season is Tuesday, October 31, 2006 to have a fish registered. 4th Annual MOMC Fall Perch Tournament It s hard to believe the fall is here. For the perch fisherman in the club, this is a favorite time of year. Last year we had a total of 26 boats sign up for the annual derby. The same rules will apply in this year s tournament and will be held @ Jefferson Beach Marina on Sunday, October 21, 2007. The signup sheet is available at www.lscmomc.com regarding this tournament. If the weather does not cooperate we will call the tournament Saturday evening and reschedule or refund the entry fees. If you have any questions regarding this upcoming event, call Bob Wyffels @ (586) 966-7319. Perch Tournament Rules 1. Participants agree to accept all decisions by the three judge panel, which include: Bob Wyffels, Joe Pierce & Joe Finazzo 2. The derby fishing stops promptly @ 2:00 PM on the 21 ft of October 2007. All captains must be ON the Michigan Harbor Gas Dock no later than 2:30 PM. This means fish in hands and standing in the weigh in line on the dock. Any late comers are disqualified from weighing their fish. NO EXCEPTIONS 3. Only perch up to one (1) limit of 50 each counts toward the official registered catch of the vessel. 4. In the interest of conservation & preservation of the species, we limit the minimum size of all registered perch to 8 or larger. That would be 8 on a ruler scale not 8 on the Man scale. 5. The amount of cash prize is dependent on the total number of entries minus the total expense of the derby. The heaviest registered catch of 50 perch or fewer wins the grand prize. There will be a prize for the largest single perch by length. Pay outs will be for 1 st, 2 nd, & 3 rd places. 6. All waters of Lake St. Clair as well as the waters of the Detroit & St. Clair Rivers are open to the derby. 7. Only the fish caught the day of the derby can be entered into the weigh in and the catch must be preserved on ice. 8. Only legal means of angling may be used to harvest the perch as identified by the Michigan DNR & Ontario Ministries of Fisheries. MOMC Derby Control will monitor channel 80 as the primary channel & channel 72 as the back up. A Fisherman s Quote: Anglers have a way of romanticizing Their battles with fish Ernest Hemingway - 2 - Second place went to Even Nelson fishing on Feel-N- Lucky along with is Dad & Grandfather. In August Even released a 41 for second place this month he released a 38 ¾ for second place again. Will we see Even again in October? Good Job to all! MOMC 2007 Calendar of Events Oct. 13 th /14 th Ken Valley Memorial Derby Jefferson Beach Marina St. Clair Shores Oct. 21 st M.O.M.C. 4 th Annual Perch Derby Jefferson Beach Marina St. Clair Shores Oct. 24 th General Membership Meeting 7:30 pm VFW Bruce Post- St. Clair Shores Jan. 23 rd, 2008 General Membership Meeting 7:30 pm VFW Bruce Post- St. Clair Shores Feb.2 nd, 2008 Annual Awards Banquet Mac & Rays Banquet Center The Ruling on the Protests With the issue of four protests concerned participation of a former member that was expelled from the club: Some members feel that this former member should not be allowed on any boat that is fishing in a MOMC event (Year End/Monthly Tournaments) even if the rest of the people on the boat are members in good standing or are guests of the MOMC. The Board of Directors deliberated for hours over these protests on August the 16th and could not come to a decision as noted in the August newsletter. On September the 4th the Board of Directors once again deliberated for hours over these protests and decided to re-vote on the issue. The Board of Directors decided to recognize these fish because of the following vote count:11 yes & 6 no. This decision is the final on this matter in accordance to rule 9.1 The Board of Directors feels that our decision is the most acceptable one given the lack of rules governing such an issue. As noted in the August Newsletter we have implemented a new rule (4.1.1) eases who can be aboard a boat fishing in MOMC event. The board thanks you for your patience in this very trying matter and respects and values all members opinions. This Club was founded for the education and enrichment of members fishing skills. We do not want to take the fun away by being overly burdensome with rules and regulations. Have fun and respect your fellow fishermen and this great fishery! MOMC Board of Directors - 4 -
