Following today's game, the White Sox conclude the homestand this weekend with three games vs. Minnesota (4/7-9) after a day off next Monday, the Sox take a nine-game trip to Cleveland (4/11-13), Minnesota (4/14-16) and New York-AL (4/17-19). The Sox have three scheduled off days in April (one in 2016) and play 25 of their fi rst 28 games within the division, including the fi rst 12. ROSTER MOVES Prior to today's game, the White Sox placed RHP Jake Petricka on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right lat (retro to 4/5) and recalled RHP Tommy Kahnle from Class AAA Charlotte. The Sox also agreed to terms with RHP Mike Pelfrey on a minor-league deal Pelfrey, 33, will join the Class AAA Charlotte rotation he was released by Detroit on 3/30 after making 22 starts for the Tigers in 2016. SOX MOURN LOSS OF ROY SIEVERS The White Sox mourn the loss of five-time All-Star Roy Sievers, who passed away on Monday at age 90. Sievers won the fi rst American League Rookie of the Year award in 1949 with the St. Louis Browns and led the AL in home runs and RBI with Washington in 1957. He played with the Sox in 1960-61, combining to hit.295 with 55 home runs, 185 RBI and 163 runs scored in 268 games. TODAY'S STORYLINES The White Sox are looking to avoid their first 0-2 start at home since 2007. The Sox have been postponed twice this season, matching their total from all of 2016 (once at home). James Shields is 23-12 with a 2.98 ERA (122 ER/368.1 IP) over 54 career starts in March/April. Jose Abreu is a.336 (71-211) hitter with 12 home runs and 37 RBI in 56 career games vs. Detroit, including a current 11-game hitting streak (.429, 18-42). YESTERDAY'S RECAP The White Sox and Tigers were postponed due to rain the game will be made up on 5/26 as part of a straight doubleheader, beginning at 4:10 p.m. CT Tickets for the postponed game are now a gift certifi cate fans should exchange those tickets and parking coupons for tickets of equal or lesser value to any future Sox home game. OPENING DAY LEFTOVERS JaCoby Jones (three-run) and Nicholas Castellanos (two-run) homered off José Quintana in a decisive fi ve-run second inning as Detroit defeated the White Sox, 6-3. Quintana, making his fi rst career Opening Day start, suffered the loss after allowing six runs on fi ve hits over 5.1 IP. Jake Petricka (1.0 IP), Zach Putnam (1.2) and Michael Ynoa (1.0) combined for 3.2 scoreless IP in relief. Tyler Saladino went 2-4 with a walk and run scored, Melky Cabrera hit a pair of doubles, and Jose Abreu was 2-4 with a double and RBI. Jacob May (0-4, RBI) made his major-league debut in center fi eld, and Rick Renteria made his White Sox managerial debut. ON THE FARM The White Sox full season minor-league teams begin play tonight, with Class AAA Charlotte hosting Norfolk, Class AA Birmingham at Jackson, Class A Winston-Salem at Buies Creek and Class A Kannapolis home vs. Lakewood. INF Yoan Moncada and RHP Reynaldo Lopez, the No. 2 and 31 prospects in baseball according to Baseball America, are scheduled to make their Charlotte debuts tonight. The Sox have lost seven consecutive season series to Detroit, going 51-80 since 2010 (30-36 at home) they were 7-12 in 2016, going 6-4 at home and 1-8 in Detroit despite leading at some point in 10 of the 12 losses. The White Sox trail the all-time series, 1,039-1,079 they are 556-507 at home (119-92 at Guaranteed Rate Field) and 483-572 on the road (74-81 at Comerica Park). LACK OF CENTRAL COMMAND The White Sox have gone 258-335 vs. the American League Central division since 2009, with their only winning record coming in 2012 (37-35). The Sox are 0-1 vs. the AL Central this season after going 32-44 in 2016 when they lost 41 of their last 65 games following a 9-3 start. AT THE HELM Rick Renteria was named the 40th manager in White Sox history on 10/3/16, replacing Robin Ventura. Renteria, the only current Latino manager in the major leagues, spent 2016 as the Sox bench coach he brings nine seasons of managerial experience to the position, including eight in the minor leagues and 2014 with the Cubs. ROSTER QUICK FACTS The White Sox 25-man roster includes 12 pitchers (six lefthanders), two catchers, eight infi elders and three outfi elders. RHP James Shields (35) is the oldest player, and SS Tim Anderson (23) is the youngest RHP Nate Jones (2012-) is the longest tenured, followed by LHP Jose Quintana (2012-). QUALITY IS JOB ONE The White Sox have made 1,252 quality starts since the start of the 2003 season, tied with the Mets for the major-league lead and 52 more than the Angels, the next-closest American League team. The Sox ranked second in the AL with 95 quality starts after leading the league with 100 in 2015. ABREU IN ELITE COMPANY Jose Abreu is the seventh player in major-league history to drive in 100 or more runs in each of his fi rst three seasons (2014-16), joining Albert Pujols (10, 2001-10), Hideki Matsui (3, 2003-05), Ted Williams (8, 1939-49; did not play from 1943-45), Joe DiMaggio (7, 1936-42), Al Simmons (11, 1924-34) and Pinky Whitney (3, 1928-30). Abreu also is the fi rst player in White Sox history to record 30-plus doubles, 25-plus home runs and 100-plus RBI in each of his fi rst three seasons. OUT GOES FRAZIER Todd Frazier set career highs with 40 home runs, 98 RBI, 89 runs scored and 64 walks last season, his first with the White Sox Frazier joined Jim Thome (42 in 2006) as the only players to hit 40-plus homers in his fi rst season with the Sox. His 40 home runs were the most in White Sox history by a third baseman, and his 15 stolen bases were the most by a Sox third baseman since Orta in 1976 (24). SIGN HERE, PLEASE The White Sox agreed to terms on a six-year, $25-million contract with SS Tim Anderson on 3/21, which includes club options for 2023 and 2024. Anderson, 23, fi nished seventh in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2016 after batting.283 (116-410) with 22 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, 30 RBI, 57 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 99 games. ON DECK: MINNESOTA TWINS The White Sox conclude the homestand this weekend with three games vs. Minnesota LHP Derek Holland (7-9, 4.95 in 2016) is scheduled to make his White Sox debut in the opener.
