These local rules are intended to supplement the LITTLE LEAGUE REGULATIONS & OFFICIAL BASEBALL RULES. Any situation that is not covered by these standing local rules will be covered by the LITTLE LEAGUE REGULATIONS & OFFICIAL BASEBALL RULES. The updated version of this rule book will be provided to each manager at the beginning of the season. You can also go online to www.littleleague.org to see the rules. Playing Field! Distance between bases is 50 feet.! is not allowed. T-BALL (AGES 5-6) Playing Time! The entire roster of players present for the game shall bat in each inning.! 12 players shall be used defensively.! There shall be 4 outfielders stationed not less than 15 feet behind the baseline when the batter hits the ball.! Extra infielders are to be stationed between the 1st and 2nd base positions and between the 3rd base and shortstop positions.! A player shall not remain on the bench more than one consecutive defensive inning per game.! To encourage rotation of players, no player shall remain at the same defensive position for more than 2 innings and remain in the infield or outfield more than 3 innings.! All players bat every inning.! Batters shall not be permitted to bunt or swing easy at the ball. If so, batter shall be called back to the plate, the swing shall count as a foul ball. Any batted ball which does not travel beyond approximately 10 feet from home plate will be considered a foul ball for purposes of this rule.! In the interest of time, if the batter fails to hit a ball after 6 tries, the batter can run to first base and each runner will advance one base.! The side is out when the last batter in the lineup has batted and the fielder tags home plate.! The ball shall be hit off of a batting tee located 3 feet in back of and in line with home plate.! Base runners are not permitted to steal or leadoff a base and shall remain in contact with the base until the ball is hit.! There is no infield fly rule. - 1 -
Defense! Players are not permitted to pitch.! The pitcher shall remain in contact with the pitching rubber (or marked spot) until the batter hits the ball.! Minimum of 3 innings played, maximum of 75 minutes. Playing Field! Distance between bases is 60 feet. COACH PITCH (AGES 7-8)! Keeping of official score is not allowed. The Home team will keep track of runs each offensive half inning, up to a maximum of 5 runs. After the 5th run is scored in that half inning, the half inning is over. Playing Time! 12 players shall be used defensively.! Outfielders should be stationed not less than 25 feet behind the baseline when the batter hits the ball.! To encourage rotation of players, no player shall remain at the same defensive position more than 2 innings and no player shall remain in the infield or outfield more than 4 innings.! During the 2nd inning, if each player has not batted at least once in the current game, the 2nd inning will continue and that team will remain at bat until each player has done so. Any runs scored as a result will not count. ALL PLAYERS MUST BAT AT LEAST ONCE DURING THE FIRST 2 INNINGS.! Batters are not permitted to bunt/swing easy at the ball. If so, the batter shall be called back to the plate, the swing shall result in a foul ball.! The batter shall be declared out after 8 pitches are delivered by the coach-pitcher. - 2 -
! The batter is out if there are 3 swinging strikes before the 8th pitch. Foul tips are counted as missed swings. A batter is not out on a foul ball or a foul tip unless it is also the 8th swing or 8th pitch.! Base runners are not permitted to steal or leadoff a base and shall remain in contact with the base until the ball is hit.! There is no infield fly rule.! No team shall score more than 5 runs per inning. If there are less than 3 outs when 5 runs are scored, the teams change sides.! When the ball enters the infield when thrown from the outfield AND an infielder has possession of it, the runner or runners must not advance any further than the bases they are currently occupying. If the runner or runners are in between bases when the ball enters the infield from the outfield and the infielder is in possession of it, they must go back to the previous base if they are less than halfway unless a play is made on them. After all safe runners occupy their bases, the ball is dead and shall be returned to the coach-pitcher.! Players are not permitted to pitch.! Only league issued soft balls will be used.! Coaches or Managers shall pitch from a minimum distance of approximately 25 feet from the point of home plate.! The player fielding the pitcher s position shall take position always to the rear and to the left or right side of the coach-pitcher.! Games are 6 innings in duration.! No inning shall begin after 1 hour 30minutes.! All games have a hard 1 hour 50 minute limit. Coaches! Adult coaches may be stationed on the playing field beyond the baselines to provide verbal instructions to their defensive team. Players and coaches are both allowed to coach from the 1st base and 3rd base coaching boxes. Playing Field! Distance between bases is 60 feet. FARM (AGES 7-9)! Both teams will be required to keep a scorebook, but the HOME team book will be the official scorebook for the game.! The scorekeeper(s) shall: " Record the sequence of batters. " Record balls, strikes and outs. " Record player scoring. " Record final score. - 3 -
Playing Time! 10 players shall be used defensively.! There shall be 4 outfielders, stationed not less than 25 feet behind the baseline when the batter hits the ball.! A player shall not remain on the bench more than one consecutive defensive inning per game, and cannot sit more than 2 innings defensively for the entire game.! To encourage rotation of players, no player shall remain at the same defensive position more than 2 innings and no player shall remain in the infield or outfield more than 4 innings. Also no player will play the catcher position for more than 3 innings max.! A Catcher must wear a catcher s mitt to play that position.! Batters are not permitted to bunt/swing easy at the ball. If so, the batter shall be called back to the plate, the swing shall result in a foul ball.! The batter is out if there are 3 strikes. A batter is not out on a foul ball or a foul tip.! Base runners are not permitted to steal or leadoff a base and shall remain in contact with the base until the ball is hit.! There is no infield fly rule.! No team shall score more than 5 runs per inning. If there are less than 3 outs when 5 runs are scored, the teams change sides. This rule does not apply after the 5th inning is completed.! Players and pitching coaches MUST pitch from a distance of 40 feet from the pitching rubber.! There are no walks.! Player pitchers will throw to a batter until one of these comes first: 1) Batter hits the ball, 2) Batter strikes out, 3) or Pitcher throws Ball-Four. When it s Ball-Four, the offensive teams coach will come in and throw an additional (3) pitches maximum to his/her batter, depending on how many strikes there are. For example, if the batter has 1-strike on him, then the batter gets 2 pitches maximum from the offensive teams coach. If the batter doesn t put the ball in play, he/she is out. A batter will get another pitch from the coach if he/she fouls or tips his/her last pitch off. - 4 -
! The player fielding the pitcher s position shall take position always to the rear and to the left or right side of the coach-pitcher.! Batters hit by a pitch thrown by a player pitcher WILL be awarded first base.! No pitcher may throw more than six (6) outs per game.! During the regular season, no game will go into extra innings (6 innings maximum).! No new inning shall begin after 1 hour 45 minutes! There is no hard time limit. If an inning has begun, it must be completed, regardless of time. Coaches! One coach from the team that is batting will stand behind the pitcher. After the pitcher throws his last pitch, that coach will throw a maximum of (3) pitches to the batters from his own team. The amount of pitches thrown by the coach will be determined by how many strikes the batter has when the coach takes over.! One coach from the defensive team can retrieve balls that are missed by the catcher. This coach is there only to help speed the game up.! One coach from the defensive team will be with his team in the field instructing his players in the field.! Players and coaches are both allowed to coach from the 1st base and 3rd base coaching boxes. MINORS (AGES 9-10)! Both teams will be required to keep a scorebook, but the HOME team book will be the official scorebook for the game.! The scorekeeper(s) shall: " Record the sequence of batters. " Record balls, strikes and outs. " Record player scoring. " Record final score. " Record pitch counts for both teams. Playing Time! 9 players shall be used defensively.! A pitcher who throws 40 pitches or less in a game may play the position of catcher that day.! If a player plays the position of catcher more than 3 innings, that player cannot pitch for the remainder of that day. If a player plays the position of catcher 3 innings or less, that player can pitch that day.! Superstition Little League follows the Little League mandated pitch count requirements for days rest as described below: # 66 or more pitches in one day 4 calendar days of rest # 51-65 pitches in one day 3 calendar days of rest # 36-50 pitches in one day 2 calendar days of rest # 21-35 pitches in one day 1 calendar days of rest # 1-20 pitches in one day 0 calendar days of rest!
