Extra Curricula Italian Day Italian Day was celebrated at St Augustine s on Thursday 3 rd September. It was a magnificent event where the whole school community came together to recognise Italian language and culture. Magnifico! The day proved to be a success in every way. The students and staff contributed to the festive atmosphere with their creative and colourful costumes and with their enthusiasm and energy. There was a sea of green, white and red, gondoliers, Mario and Luigi, soccer players, colourful masks, Italian artists and chefs. We were then graced with the presence of Mugavin Mona Lisa and Kelly caffè latte, who will surely be contenders to look out for in the Melbourne Spring Carnival fashion fields. Mamma Mia! The students joined in the many activities which reflected aspects of the Italian culture. The year 2 /3 students were given the opportunity to play Bocce, thanks to the Pascoe Vale Bocce Club. The P/1 children created some amazing Carnevale masks and the 4 /5 /6 students created art to simulate the way Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The lunchtime races were exciting to see and many joined in the Gondola Race, the Waiter s Race and Toss the Ring on Pinocchio s Nose. Eccellente! Every child was treated to a 1 hour performance by the theatre group Make a Scene, titled Venice in Love. During afternoon snack time a delicious gelato was on offer Delizioso! To the surprise of the year 4 /5 /6 students, an elegant and stylish red Ferrari drove into the staff car park and all had the chance to look at this elegant car close up. Many thanks to Isabella M s uncle who took the time to come out to St Augustine s. The day ended with a magnificent display of costumes for the whole school to see, prizes and certificates were awarded to competition winners and the very talented 2/3 dancers and uke players presented the traditional Tarantella dance. Thanks to Mrs Padden who did a fantastic job preparing the children for the performance. Fantastico! Thank you to my amazing student helpers: photographers, sport captains and vice captains, competition helpers, PA announcers, SRC leaders. To the staff and parents of St Augustine s thank you for your continued and valued support of the Italian program.grazie. Signora Carmela Di Lorenzo

Gabriella I don t know why we need to make it better because it was AWESOME! Sienna B I liked eating gelato and doing the tarantella Mitchell What I liked most about Italian Day was all of it! Alyssa I liked everything because it was fun and you could learn new things Meikah My favourite part of the day was Venice in Love play, where they improvise their drama, using English and some Italian language. Olivia M Thank you Signora for a great experience of Italian Day. Matisse. The play had funny masks and all different characters. The play made very body laugh and it was super funny. Thomas S The play and the Ferrari was my favourite part of the day. Bella M I was so excited, my uncle was coming with his cool red Ferrari car. Student's Video Games Screen it! 2015 teams Screen It is a nationwide competition that enables the best film makers, animators and video game makers in Australian

schools to compete for the coveted Screen It 2015 prize. The winners will be announced at a special 'Logies' type event at ACMI in Term 4. This year our focus has been on Video Game making. This has been taught in ICT classes and in a special lunch time club. One of the programs students use is Kodu which enables games to be played on PCs and on the XBox platform. We congratulate all students who persevered with this very challenging project. Meikah:The Lava Escape Can the Kodu make the evil robot, Dr. Cyclebot, change and convince him to stop destroying their land? Imogen: Disaster Strikes A flood threatens Kodu land. Can the Kodu adjust to their new circumstances and rebuild their home? Anthony & Blake: Harry the poor octopus Can Harry the poor octopus negotiate the maze of life and achieve prosperity? Jack: Shapeshifting mischief A shapeshifter can be hard to beat, as it adjusts to it's environment and the competition. Do you have the strategies to beat it? Mr. James I.T. Leader
