Extra Curricula Italian Day Italian Day was celebrated at St Augustine s on Thursday 3 rd September. It was a magnificent event where the whole school community came together to recognise Italian language and culture. Magnifico! The day proved to be a success in every way. The students and staff contributed to the festive atmosphere with their creative and colourful costumes and with their enthusiasm and energy. There was a sea of green, white and red, gondoliers, Mario and Luigi, soccer players, colourful masks, Italian artists and chefs. We were then graced with the presence of Mugavin Mona Lisa and Kelly caffè latte, who will surely be contenders to look out for in the Melbourne Spring Carnival fashion fields. Mamma Mia! The students joined in the many activities which reflected aspects of the Italian culture. The year 2 /3 students were given the opportunity to play Bocce, thanks to the Pascoe Vale Bocce Club. The P/1 children created some amazing Carnevale masks and the 4 /5 /6 students created art to simulate the way Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The lunchtime races were exciting to see and many joined in the Gondola Race, the Waiter s Race and Toss the Ring on Pinocchio s Nose. Eccellente! Every child was treated to a 1 hour performance by the theatre group Make a Scene, titled Venice in Love. During afternoon snack time a delicious gelato was on offer Delizioso! To the surprise of the year 4 /5 /6 students, an elegant and stylish red Ferrari drove into the staff car park and all had the chance to look at this elegant car close up. Many thanks to Isabella M s uncle who took the time to come out to St Augustine s. The day ended with a magnificent display of costumes for the whole school to see, prizes and certificates were awarded to competition winners and the very talented 2/3 dancers and uke players presented the traditional Tarantella dance. Thanks to Mrs Padden who did a fantastic job preparing the children for the performance. Fantastico!
