Mylor Yacht Club NOTICE OF RACE 2015 Organising authority: Mylor Yacht Club, Mylor Churchtown, Falmouth, Cornwall TR11 5UF Telephone 01326 374391 www.myloryachtclub.org.uk Invitation Members of Mylor Yacht Club, members of other Clubs within the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association and visitors are invited to enter the following yacht racing events at Mylor Yacht Club in 2015: Three series of six races each on Friday evenings in the C arrick Roads. Two series of four pursuit races in the Carrick Roads. A series of three races in Falmo uth Bay. The Tuning Fork Regatta, in the Carrick Roads. A Pursuit race to the Helford, two Passage Races to Fowey, one to the Dartmouth area and one to Newlyn. The Alternate Helms and Junior Helms Race. The Five Creeks Race. The Laying Up Race. In addition, the club will host Cornwall Offshore Group Series (COGS) Race 7 and three races for working boats: the Heard Memorial Race, the Pandora Cups Race and the Silver Oyster Race. 1. Rules 1.1. Racing at Mylor Yacht Club (MYC) will be governed by: 1.1.1 The Rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016. 1.1.2 Class Rules. 1.1.3 This Notice of Race and the MYC Sailing Instructions 2015. 1.1.4 The ISAF Category 5 Special Regulations (for racing in the Carrick Roads and the Helford Race) and Category 4 (for the Bay Series, the Fowey and Newlyn races, the Dartmouth Race and COGS Race 7). Except for COGS Race 7, boats unable to comply with ISAF Category 4 regulations may be permitted to take part in these races, at the Race Officer s discretion. 1.1.5 Racing rule A9 will be changed. For the three Friday evening series and the two pursuit series, boats scored DNC in a race will be scored points for the finishing place three more than the number of boats that came to the starting area. 1.1.6 The Sailing Instructions may also change other racing rules. 1.2. Owners/skippers/competitors should note that Mylor Yacht Club implement the RYA Racing Charter and that they will be required to undertake to sail in compliance with the Charter, which may be found at www.rya.org.uk/racing/charter. 2. Entries 2.1. Entries will be accepted from competitors who have completed and signed a valid entry form (entry fee applicable to series races from non-members) and whose boat displays sail numbers. Competitors racing for the first time may request an issue of a temporary POFSA Z series number or acceptance of other unique insignia. 2.2. It is the responsibility of the owner/skipper to ensure that all under-16 year olds crewing on the boat have permission from their parent or guardian. 3. Classes 3.1. Boats entering in the two Skinners Brewery Pursuit Series will be restricted to use upwind sails only. Full details will be stated in the sailing instructions. 4. Eligibility and Entry 4.1. Competitors may send their completed entry forms and handicap forms to the Racing Secretary in one of two ways: 4.1.1 By post to: Racing Secretary, Mylor Yacht Club, Mylor Churchtown, Falmouth, Cornwall TR11 5UF. 4.1.2 email the forms as scanned.pdf files to racing@myloryachtclub.org.uk. 4.2. All race documentation will be available on the MYC website (www.myloryachtclub.org.uk) and in the clubhouse. 4.3. Receipt of the entry form (and fee if applicable: see paragraph 5 below) means that a boat is entered for all MYC races in 2015 from the date it is received by the Racing Secretary. Every effort will be made to Page 2

issue a handicap number within 48 hours of receipt of the entry and handicap forms. However, a result will not be given unless the boat has a known handicap. 4.4. Competitors who have not entered any of the series but are planning to enter one or more of the special races are reminded that they must submit a signed entry form prior to competing. 5. Fees 5.1. Boats belonging to, loaned to, or chartered by members of Mylor Yacht Club. No race fee is applicable. 5.2. Boats belonging to, loaned to, or chartered by non-members of Mylor Yacht Club. The race fee is 40; this will allow competitors to race in all Mylor YC races in 2015. Reductions in this fee may be arranged with the Sailing Secretary, Mylor YC, for those wishing to enter races later in the season. Cheques should be made payable to Mylor Yacht Club. 5.3. Working Boat Races. A composite entry fee is arranged with the Falmouth Working Boats Association. 5.4. COGS 7. Entry fees are arranged with the COGS administration team. 6. Race Schedule 6.1. Friday Evening Racing will consist of three series of six races each, and one series of four races, scheduled on: Penrose Sailmakers Series 24 Apr, 1 May, 8 May, 15 May, 22 May and 29 May Mylor Chandlery & Rigging Series 5 June, 12 June, 19 June, 26 June, 3 July and 10 July Falmouth Boat Construction Series 17 July, 24 July, 31 July, 7 August, 21 August and 28 August 6.2. The first Skinners Brewery Pursuit Series will consist of four races scheduled on 26 April, 31 May, 7 June and 21 June. Abandoned races may be sailed on 12 September. 6.3. The Cup Races will be held on Friday 10 July. 6.4. The second Skinners Brewery Pursuit Series will consist of four races scheduled on 28 June, 26 July, 23 August and 6 September. Abandoned races may be sailed on 12 September. 6.5. The BT Marine Bay Series will consist of three races scheduled on 18 April, 2 May and 16 May. Abandoned races may be sailed on 22 August. 6.6. A separate Notice of Race will be issued for the Cornwall Offshore Group Series Race 7. 7. Sailing Instructions 7.1. The Sailing Instructions, including the course card, will be available on the MYC website (www.myloryachtclub.org.uk) on or after 15 March 2015. Where appropriate, additional copies of sailing instructions for particular races may be available in the clubhouse. 8. Courses 8.1. Friday racing and the Pursuit Series. The course area will be the northern part of the Carrick Roads. The courses to be sailed will be taken from the courses on the course card, which will be made available with the Sailing Instructions. 8.2. The Fowey, Newlyn and Dartmouth Races will be passage races. Details of the courses will be stated in the sailing instructions. Page 3

8.3. The course area for the Bay Series and the Helford Passage Race will be in the Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay. Details of the courses will be stated in the Sailing Instructions. 8.4. The course area for COGS 7 will be in the Carrick Roads, Falmouth Bay, Veryan Bay and St Austell Bay. Details of the courses will be in the Sailing Instruction. 8.5. The courses for all other races will be in the Carrick Roads. 9. Series scoring 9.1. The low point scoring system will be used. Discards will be operated as follows: Series Races sailed in series Races to count Discards 6 5 1 Friday series 5 4 1 (six races per series if all are 4 3 1 sailed) fewer than 4 all none Pursuit series (four races per 4 3 1 series if all are sailed) Bay series (three races if all are sailed) fewer than 4 all none 3 2 1 fewer than 3 all none 9.2. RRS A4.2 is changed. For all race series, when a skipper (as named on the Entry Form) undertakes a duty as a race officer, committee boat crew, safety boat coxswain or safety boat crew, or provides the committee boat, then their boat will be given a score equal to the average of their race scores or discarded scores in that series. DNC scores will not be considered in the calculation and no skipper will be eligible for this concession more than once per series. For all skippers, if their boat races without them the boat s score will count. 9.3. RRS A9 is changed. Boats marked DNC shall be scored points for the finishing place three more than the number of boats that came to the starting area. 10. Radio Communication 10.1. Except in an emergency, boats shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 11. Prizes 11.1. Friday Evening Series. Prizes, and trophies as appropriate, will be awarded to boats placed 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd in each class and will be awarded in the clubhouse after racing on the following dates: Penrose Sailmakers Series Friday 29 May. Mylor Chandlery & Rigging Series Friday 10 July. Falmouth Boat Construction Series Friday 28 August. 11.2. Cup Races. Prizes will be presented in the clubhouse after racing on Friday 10 July. 11.3. All other races in 2015. Prizes for all other races will be presented in the clubhouse at the Annual Prizegiving on Friday 2 October. 12. Handicaps 12.1. Handicaps and/or ratings will be allocated in accordance with the Mylor Yacht Club Handicapping and Rating Policy, details of which will be available on the Club website and from the Sailing Secretary or Handicap Officer. 12.2. The Sailing Committee may place a boat in the class considered the most suitable, based on the handicap number and the need to balance the fleet numbers, but will consider the skipper s/owner s/competitor s preference as indicated on their entry form. Boats in classes E and U will normally sail longer courses than those in class Q. Competitors should check their class from the club notice board, club website or by contacting the Sailing Secretary before the first race in which they compete. 12.3. Boats competing in the Heard Memorial and Pandora Cups Races will be handicapped using Working Boat and Gaffer handicaps. 12.4. Handicaps for COGS 7 will be issued by COGS. 13. Risk Statement Page 4

13.1. Competitors are reminded of Rule 4 in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2013 2016. 13.2. Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the events listed in this Notice of Race, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that: 13.2.1 They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat whilst taking part in the event. 13.2.2 They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore. 13.2.3 They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions. 13.2.4 Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate. 13.2.5 The provision by Mylor YC of a race management team, patrol boats and other officials and volunteers does not relieve them of their own responsibilities. 13.2.6 The provision of patrol boat cover is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can be practically provided in the circumstances. 13.2.7 For the offshore races, they are responsible for ensuring that their boat is equipped and seaworthy so as to be able to face extremes of weather; that there is a crew sufficient in number, experience and fitness to withstand such weather; and that the safety equipment is properly maintained, stowed and in date, and is familiar to the crew. 13.2.8 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of 2,000,000 per event, or the equivalent. 14. Safety Equipment 14.1. All competitors should carry the following equipment: anchor and cable, bilge pump, bucket and lanyard, personal buoyancy for each crew member, life belt or horseshoe type life float, oar and rowlock (if no engine is fitted), auxiliary engine, compass and chart of the area to be sailed, depth sounding equipment, a powerful torch with spare batteries, two red flares and two orange smoke flares, foghorn, VHF radio, mobile phone and any other additional equipment required by class / association rules. 14.2. Each of the items listed above should function properly and be suitable for its intended purpose. It shall be of the type, size, capacity and design adequate for its intended use, taking account of the type and size of boat on which it is carried. All equipment should be within the manufacturer s expiry date. 15. Further information 15.1. Competitors who are not members of Mylor Yacht Club are welcome to race, for which there is a one-off race fee of 40: this will allow such competitors to race in all club races during the 2015 MYC season. Please make cheques payable to Mylor Yacht Club and attach them to this form. Competitors who are not members of Mylor Yacht Club and who join the race fleet later in the season are requested to contact the MYC Sailing Secretary to arrange a reduction in this fee. Waiver. The organising authority or its members will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during or after the event. Moreover, every owner/skipper warrants the suitability of their boat for racing. Declaration. I declare that I hold a valid and current boat insurance which covers me for third party indemnity and racing for not less than two million pounds ( 2,000,000) and that I will continue to do so whilst engaged in any MYC race. I agree to be bound by the Racing Rules of Sailing and all other rules that govern MYC racing in 2015. I confirm that I have read the MYC Notice of Race 2015 and accept its provisions and agree that my boat will conform to its requirements when racing at MYC in 2015. I consent to my name, boat name and racing results, but no other personal information, being publicised including posting on the MYC website. I have read the above waiver and accept this statement.
