WORM-LIKE NUMBERS: Tyson Chandler is pulling down rebounds like the former rebounding master Dennis Rodman in fact, Chandler s numbers in the past six games are just plain ridiculous over the last six, Chandler is averaging 13.2 points on 61.0 percent shooting (36-59 FG) and pulling down 18.0 rebounds (6.2 offensive)! HIGH SCORING TEAM? The Hornets are the lowest scoring team in the NBA at 92.7 points per game however, over the last seven games, they have proved that wrong in fact, they have scored 100+ in each of the last seven and are averaging 108.9 points per game. WEST PRODUCING: Starting power forward David West is powering over the competition lately over the last six games, West is averaging 21.5 points on 53 percent shooting (50-95 FG), 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 35 minutes of play. THAT S MR. COWBOY TO YOU: Desmond Mason has been on a tear in the last eight games, leading the Hornets in scoring in four of the past eight games in addition to sinking the game winner as time expired 2/7 at DEN, the former Oklahoma State Cowboy is averaging 18.5 points on 55 percent shooting (64-117 FG), 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 35.4 minutes of play over the last eight. 05-06 PRE-ALL-STAR REPEAT: As you may remember, the Hornets were red hot when the 2006 NBA All-Star break occurred last season they had won 9 of 10 games and were sitting in the 6 th spot in the Western Conference before the All-Star break this season, the Bees won nine of their last 12 games. 05-06 POST-ALL STAR: As noted above, the Hornets were on a high going into the All-Star break last year however, after the break they went on a free-fall, going 3-13 in their first 16 games back the Bees are 1-1 after this year s break. B-JAXX BACK TO FORM: After shooting just 17 percent from the field (7-41 FG) in the previous five games, Bobby Jackson returned to his old self the past six games Jackson is averaging 12.2 points on 42 percent shooting (27-65 FG). CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARDS: Tyson Chandler has had at least a dozen rebounds in each of his past 14 games, setting the longest such streak for a Hornets player in franchise history the previous record was set by Anthony Mason with seven in a row in March 1997. D-E-F-E-N-S-E: Over the last 10 wins the Hornets defense has been keeping a tight hold over the rim for opponents the Hornets have held 9 of their 10 opponents to under 45 percent shooting from the field and two opponents under 39 percent shooting SAC shot 36.4% (28-77), UTA shot 47.1% (30-80), POR shot 42% (34-81), MIN shot 38.8%, HOU shot 37.2%, DEN shot 44.9% (44-98), MIL shot 42.1% (40-95), MEM shot 43.9% (36-82) and SAC shot 40.3% (31-77)..500 WOES: Just over halfway through the season, the Hornets are 14-17 in games with teams that are under.500 the Hornets have lost or are trailing in six season series with such opponents they have lost season series to Golden State (1-3), Portland (1-2), Toronto (0-2) and Philadelphia (0-2) they are trailing in season series to Seattle and the L.A. Clippers (0-2 with two games to go) on the other hand, the Hornets are 12-12 against teams that are over.500. MOST IMPROVED?: Tyson Chandler has 20 double-doubles on the season, including 17 in his last 23 games last season, he had just nine total in 50 starts through 53 starts this season, Chandler is producing higher averages in most major statistical categories than he did a season ago, the below chart shows it. LOOKING AHEAD: The Hornets are tied with the Golden State Warriors for the 8 th seed of the playoffs and their upcoming schedule should help them get even closer two of the next three Hornets games are against opponents with a sub-.500 record, CLE is the only above.500 team. ROAD WARRIORS: The Hornets will need to have their suitcases ready when March rolls around six of the Hornets first eight games are on the road overall, eight of their 14 games in the month are road games. DEVIN S DOMINANCE: Devin Brown has gone from a free-agent contract with the Hornets to the starting shooting guard along the way he has produced some quality numbers, especially over the last 16 games he is averaging 13.3 points on 46 percent shooting (72-156) and 4.4 rebounds in the past 16. PARGO TIME: Jannero Pargo is a spark plug for the offense off the bench however, as of late he has been struggling with his offense over the last eight games, Pargo is averaging 5.7 points on 42 percent shooting (19-45 FG) in 13.2 minutes. CHANDLER=CONSISTENT: Tyson Chandler s points and rebounds have been very consistent as of late not only has TC racked up 17 double-doubles in the past 23 games, but he has also scored 10+ points in 18 of those 23 and snatched 10+ rebounds in 23 of the previous 25 games. % OF POINTS: A couple of stats the average fan may not pay too much attention to are second-chance points and points in the paint the Hornets excel in both of these categories, averaging 14.3 second-chance points and 40.3 points in the paint in regard to percentage of total points, the Hornets are 2 nd in the NBA in second-chance points (trail CLE) and 6 th in the league in points in the paint. WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?: Devin Brown is on pace for his best season, statistics-wise, as an NBA player before this season, his career-highs for points were 7.5 ( 05-06), rebounds were 2.6 ( 04-05 and 05-06), assists were 1.4 ( 04-05) and starts were 14 ( 05-06) Brown is outdoing his career-highs in each of the categories this season, with averages of 12.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 22 starts. MISSING BEE: The Hornets are playing without their second-leading scorer, Peja Stojakovic to fully understand his importance, see the below chart the Hornets are missing 18 points and four rebounds from their line-up. BENCH SPARK NEEDED TO WIN: Good bench play is a must for a team to succeed in the NBA the Hornets bench is a key example of that this season in the team s 26 wins, the bench has averaged a total of 30.9 points.in the team s 29 losses, the bench has averaged just 22.8 points.
