2006-07 Club Officers President: Cal Struchen 393-2448 Board Member: Craig Waite 363-6314 Vice President: Joe Sherbon 448-4430 Board Member: Scott Mason 364-5518 Secretary: Al Perkins 393-7628 Board Member: Ron Teufel 395-9814 Treasurer: Randy Beelner 395-7492 Note from the President The Alburnett Archery team and I attended the 2007 NASP Archery Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky June 9 th, at the West Wing of the Kentucky Exposition Center. It was a very impressive tournament. First off, there were around 130 target butts, four archers on each target with flights scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. There were 1800+ shooters registered and about 1500+ competed. The Alburnett Archery team had fun at the tournament, shot very well, but learned some very important lessons on what it takes to compete at the National level in any sport. Concentration, dedication and lots of practice are what it takes. I m proud to have been associated with this team and next year, look out for the Alburnett Pirates in Archery tournament competition. We have been experiencing some issues with members dumping at the club grounds. This is not acceptable. First we had someone dump stuff on the orange range, then a trailer full of stuff got dumped at the base of the pines and now someone dumped a desk and hot tub cover and a mattress. We have enough work to do around the grounds without having to pick up after members. If anyone is caught dumping on the club grounds, that is grounds for expulsion from the club. A member suggested putting some trail cams up to see who is coming and going on the club grounds. That may be the thing we need to do. Remember, the Rendezvous 40 target 3-D shoot is July 21 st and 22 nd and the Club 900 round is also the 22 nd. The 1 st Annual Art Foster Traditional Shoot is August 4 th and 5 th. Please come out and support the club by shooting these shoots. We re trying to make it as enjoyable as possible. Come out and have some fun. Shoot Straight, Cal Struchen Upcoming Events July 21 st & 22 nd THE RENDEZVOUS 40 3D TARGETS & THE EXTREME COURSE! THE BLUE RANGE IS OPEN AND THE RETURN OF THE FAMOUS 13 FOOT TALL POLAR BEAR! The Silver Broadhead The Silver Broadhead was a good shoot. 135 shooters over the 2 days. Of course the skeeters were in attendance and we are looking into how to control those pesky little critters. Congrats to all who won their divisions and got the coveted 1 st place Silver Broadhead. Those are a treasure. A tradition dating way, way, way, way back. I think Cal remembers when they started giving those out. Hehehe. Just kidding. He s not that old, he s not even retired yet. Bake Sale!!! The Bake Sale went over well and raised us over $100 for the new playground equipment. Thanks to Charlotte Mason, Lanetta Smith and Diane Mally for making the various baked goods for the sale. I ll personally push you 3 on the new swing when we get it done! We re going to have another one at the Rendezvous & the Foster shoots. So everyone start thumbing through those cook books. I think for this one we re gonna have the board members bake something to sell. Won t that be interesting? HA. Wanted We are having an erosion problem with the culvert that allows the creek to go under our road. In order to fix the problem we need broken concrete for rip rapping the culvert. If we don t get this done the culvert will drop and ultimately our road will also drop. That would be a bummer! Member Tom Rosenberger has said that he can fix the problem. Contact Tom Rosenberger at 364-3711 and leave a message if you know of some broken concrete that we could have. Member 3-D Sponsors A Member 3-D Sponsorship has been formed. Any members that would like to donate a 3-D target will get a stake placed with their 3-D bearing their families name. So far the Perkins & the Schumacher families have donated. If you are interested in purchasing a 3D for the club, contact Al Perkins 393-7628. We can get a club price for the 3D you may be interested in donating to the club. We re going up to Delta next week. We need to order now to get it in time for the Rendezvous. Thanks September Game Feed Anyone who would like to donate wild game or fish for our game feed in September, just bring it out to the club and put it in the freezer. We will have a sheet on the freezer. Please put your name and what you donated. Thanks for your help. I ve ate all mine already. So I hope we get some donated so I don t go hungry! Ol Blue Scott Mason, Joe Sherbon and Al Perkins braved the nasty humid hot temperatures and mowed and cut and lost a few pounds getting the Blue Range opened back up. The Blue Range? Yeah, it hasn t been used for over 10 years. It s behind the new indoor range and starts at the east end of the building. Your gonna like this range!!! Alburnett Goes to Nationals As Cal stated in his article, the Alburnett kids went to the NASP Nationals in Kentucky. All had a good time I hear and can t wait for next year. The Alburnett Archery Team members were: Dalton Thomas age 13 8 th grade Sam MacDonald age 12 5 th grade Trenton Thomas age 11 4 th grade Zack Bisinger age 11 4 th grade Brenton Blackford age 10 4 th grade We would also like to thank the following sponsors for their generous donations to help make this possible. Cedar Rapids Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited Iowa Bowhunters Assn. Alburnett Linn Co-op Dave s Auto- Alburnett Iowa Rivet Tool- Alburnett Alburnett Veterinarian Clinic Of course the Waltonian Archers donated money, time and the indoor range for the kids to practice in. Good Luck next year Pirates!!!!! Page 4 of 5

Summer Bowhunter League The summer Bowhunter League has begun, but it s not too late to get started. Shoot at the club grounds any time Sunday through Friday for six bucks a week if you re old and three bucks a week if you re a kid under 16. No you can t pay just three bucks a week if you ACT like a kid! Fourteen 3 D targets are sittin out there waiting to get shot at. This is an awesome way to keep those shooting skills sharp and 2 bucks from the adults and a buck from the kids fees go to the 3D fund. So call Don Parker @ 363-8877 if you want to shoot!!! A Good Mower is Hard to Find If anyone wants to donate a good riding mower to the club, we sure do need one badly!! Heck, I d even put your picture in the Shavings and wash your car or truck. Heck I d come mow your lawn for you if you no longer had a way to mow your own lawn! We also need a Bobcat, a new tractor, a quad... Camping Fee Because of rising utility costs and our tight budget, campers who hook up to electricity will now be charged $5 per night. Also, we will no longer be able to allow campers to hook up to the water. The electricity to run the well pump as well as the potential cost associated with a pump failure, it was decided that no water hook up will be allowed. Primitive camping is free at the Waltonian Archers. BBQ Chicken Dinner The 1 st Annual Art Foster Traditional will be having a BBQ chicken Dinner Saturday August 4 th starting at 5:30 pm. Of course there will be BBQ chicken, but there will be sweet corn, beans and Dutch Oven Dessert!!!!!! You don t want to miss this one. You don t have a stick bow? So you won t be shooting the Foster shoot? Don t matter. You can still come out and eat. We may even talk you into trying our bow out to see if you like it. Call Dave Mason 435-2612 or Joe Sherbon 448-4430 to RSVP. MMMMmmmm, nothing like a good barbeque!!! The Rendezvous We ll be setting up for the Rendezvous on Thursday, July 19 th at 4:30 pm. Come on out and help us set up. There will be burger and brats for those who help set up. We have 40 3-D s to set up for this shoot so we re gonna need a lot of help. Can t be there at 4:30? Don t matter. Come out when you can. It s gonna take a little while. We can use all the help we can get. We try to make it fun. We don t joke around or anything while we re setting up. (Yeah Joe, it works better if you grab that buffalo by the %$#@ to pick up that end of him. Hehehehe) Karl puts so much detail in the homemade 3-D s. FOR SALE At the Rendezvous and the Art Foster Traditional shoots we will allow members to sell their outdoor, hunting or archery equipment. Let us know if you want to reserve a table. My garage and den and shed aren t full yet, so I don t have anything that I want to sell yet. Lost Arrow I over shot target number 8 last week and couldn t find my arrow. It s about 28 inches long with a field point on one end, a nock on the other end and 3 feathers on it. One feather is a different color then the other two. Since losing that arrow, my scores have been terrible. I m blaming my poor shooting on the fact I m no longer shooting this arrow. If you find it, leave it there I guess. If I get it back I ll have to find another excuse as to why I m shooting so poorly. Maybe I shouldn t have given such a good description of the arrow. I ll probably get it back now. Thanks in advance for leaving it lie. Al. ISSA State Field Champions Congratulations to Waltonian Archers members who are now State Champions. In the AMBHFS division Ron Teufel won state with a score of 809. Vance Patrilla beat out his son Matt for the state crown in the AMFSLR/L division with a score of 700 and Ron Payne won in the SMFS division with a score of 813. Craig Waite finished 2 nd in the AMFS Division with a score of 813. Nice job Waltonians!!!!! Page 5 of 5
