Thank you for considering this request. The Barefoot Mile event will take place on May 19 th, 2018 from 1-4pm in Downtown Anchorage in Town Square Park. The Barefoot Mile is a 1 mile barefoot walk where participants stand behind the cause of human trafficking and walk in solidarity with children in poverty, who are the most vulnerable to trafficking. The Barefoot Mile can remind us how effective our community can be when we join for a common goal, which is the safety of innocent individuals. Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime in the world today, a 150 billion dollar industry annually. It is the third largest international criminal industry. Two million children are exploited every year in the global commercial sex trade. Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked in the U.S. each year. These crimes are not just being committed internationally, it is happening right here locally. The success of the Barefoot Mile ensures that awareness of human trafficking is brought to light and the funds raised will assist in the rescue, restoration, reintegration and prevention of human trafficking in Alaska, the U.S. and Internationally. A few other ways to help; Join a team, donate Money, buy a T-shirt, walk individually, or volunteer. Please join Davis in the fight against human trafficking! Sincerely, Davis Constructors & Engineers, Inc. Josh Pepperd President/CEO

What your money goes to: Funds raised will help to coordinate the rescue, restoration, reintegration, and prevention of the commercial sexual exploitation of individuals domestically and internationally. Rescue Working with organizations in the relevant geographic locations to rescue women and children from the commercial sex trade, freeing them from a life of slavery and bondage. They partner with the police, task forces, prosecutors and nonprofit ministries to find and rescue captive children throughout the world and bring their captors to justice. Restoration Making sure those released from the sex industry are healed emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically. We partner with safe houses and rehabilitation professionals to ensure the safety and care for these precious women and children as they walk the road of healing. Reintegration Safe homes work to educate and train survivors in relevant schooling and job placement courses, preparing them to integrate back into society as healthy, educated and trained adults when the time comes. JOY International also sponsors a number of young women s continuing education costs, providing them an opportunity to go to university and end the poverty cycle in their lives. Prevention Demand, poverty and lack of education are three of the driving forces behind the sexual exploitation of children around the world. We strive to educate vulnerable people groups about human trafficking by providing them with relevant information on trafficker s schemes, as well as by providing food, clothing and shoes to help ease the burden of poverty on families around the world.
