Agent Feature: Tony s 76, Port Washington By Marie Kilbane Seckers, Communications Tony s 76, a vehicle repair service center with a convenience store and gas, helps make life easier for customers in the rural community of Port Washington in Tuscarawas County. Whether picking up carryout and a few Lottery tickets or getting tires for a tractor and a few items in the convenience store, owner Tony Martin has all the bases covered. He sent his staff to an Ohio Lottery retailer training session in 2017. By the end of the program, Tony s 76 was signed up to do an Ohio Lottery retailer makeover. Tony Martin, the owner of Tony s 76 in New Philadelphia, and employee Autumn Eichel have a great rapport with sales representative Jim Graven, and enjoy a good laugh during a recent visit at their store. Tony recently remodeled the Lottery counter and added signage to the convenience store. As a result, Tony s store saw double digit growth. The business recently remodeled its convenience store, moving food to the back counter and providing a dedicated area for Lottery games up front, including a place to sit and play. The extra room helped his staff focus on customer needs in each dedicated area. The makeover improved the store s Lottery display providing new instant ticket dispensers and improving signage in key areas of the store. BEFORE The remodeling efforts and makeover had their desired effect and the sales proved it -- draw game sales for Fiscal Year 2018 improved by 47%, and instants were up almost 67% compared to the same period the prior year. That s not the only benefit. Along with the sales increase has been an uptick in cashing service for Lottery games. As sales have increased, so the number of winners. He recalled how a local customer won $20,000 on a scratch off game and decided to use part of his winning to take his family to Disney World. More on Tony s 76 Owner Tony Martin joined the Retailer Incentive Program in July 2017 and has earned bonuses in each of the first four program quarters. Tony has made improvements to Tony s 76 on an ongoing basis. In 2009, Tony built a new building to house tires and in 2016 added a drive thru for beverages and livestock feed. He s now considering adding a diner to his operation. Tony, a mechanic by trade, employs 33, most working part-time, including students. Five employees work in the repair shop.
