WELCOME TO SOUTHERN CROSS CHEER SCC is an All Star cheerleading and dance club based in Melbourne s inner northern suburb of Northcote. We pride ourselves on providing a positive educational environment for athletes of all ages to encourage them to mature into the best version of themselves and become great ambassadors of this amazing sport. NEW TO CHEER & DANCE? ATTEND A COME AND TRY DAY! Come and try cheer or dance days are a great way to get involved in cheer and dance at SCC without feeling the pressure of not having any experience. When you attend a come and try day you will be greeted at the door by our friendly staff and asked to fill out a few forms. From there you will be given a tour of our facility so you know your way around, and will participate in a short class where you will be taught the basics and get a good sense of whether or not cheer is for you. At the end of your session you will have the opportunity to register for a 2019 team or class, or if you need more time you can always contact us and register later. Come and try days are fun and better yet they are free to attend! Here your skill-set will be assessed so that we can determine the right team for you. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING 1. Minimum age is deemed as turning the stated age on or before 31/12/2019 2. For session 1 (level 5-7 teams) you will need to meet the minimum age requirements of the international open divisions as stated in the IASF age grid. 3. Tryouts are $15 per person which will cover you for all sessions you attend. Upon registration the cost of tryouts will be deducted from your registration fee. 4. If you are unable to attend placement day, we offer limited private tryouts. These will be at a cost of $30 per athlete, email admin@southerncrosscheer.com.au for further information.

CHEER PROGRAM @ SCC We are known throughout Australia and worldwide for our amazing cheer teams. We started in October 2010 with just 10 athletes. Fast forward to the present and we have grown more than tenfold to encompass over 10 cheer teams covering all ages and levels from novice level 1 through to our successful level 5 and 6 world championship teams. However we are more than just a cheer and dance program, we are a family. No matter if you are new to the sport or looking to be on our next international traveling team we would love for you to join us. We have many different teams and there will be one perfect for you. CHEER STREAMS At SCC we offer 3 streams of cheer to make cheer accessible to everyone. CHEER LEVELS & AGE DIVISIONS We believe it is important to level and age our athletes correctly. We follow the levels and age groups set our by our international governing body (IASF). Levels and age group divisions are used in cheerleading to ensure that all athletes are placed in a team that allows them to learn in a safe and supportive environment while also interacting with athletes of similar age. Levels run from level 1 through to level 7 with set requirements for each level. Below is a list of skill requirements for each level of cheer. We use this list as a guide when selecting our teams. DANCE PROGRAM @ SCC As well as our cheer program, we also offer an amazing dance program. Our dance teams train with a strong focus on technique, performance and execution. We use proven methods to develop our dancers so that they are ready to perform when it counts. We offer teams and technique classes in the following styles. POM All star pom is a motions-based dance style. It is largely composed of jumps and turns with a focus on visuals, uniformity, strength and synchronisation. JAZZ All star jazz is a modern dance style focusing on correct and technical dance execution. It is composed of jumps, turns, synchronisation, and extension. LYRICAL Lyrical dance is a style of dance created by merging ballet & jazz. Lyrical dancing is choreographed to music with lyrics, with a focus on performance that communicates the emotion of the chosen song. BALLET Ballet is a highly technical form of dance and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres. HIP HOP Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. We offer dance teams & classes for athletes aged 5 and above in the following age divisions. OUR STAFF @ SCC Eddie Owner/Coach Momo Program Manager - Cheer Renata Program Manager - Dance Joel Club Administrator We take pride in having some of the most experienced and well trained staff in the country that hold the same strong core beliefs of our club. Our coaches go above and beyond everyday to help our athletes grow into successful young adults. All coaches undergo extensive training each year in order to be well versed in the most current techniques to ensure your athlete and their teams are well cared for. Every coach also holds the following current certifications. IASF Cheer coach credentials to the level they coach First aid and CPR certifications Working with children check On top of this we hold annual coach training and update sessions throughout the year to ensure our staff are up to date with current techniques, are following their teams plans and reassessing goals where needed. Our coaches and administration staff are very approachable, supportive and happy to hear any concerns and address any situations that may occur. We also have a strong support network behind our coaches to help them through any situations in which they are uncomfortable or unsure to make sure that our athletes are always in a safe and supportive environment and being lead correctly.

GENERAL INFORMATION ATHLETE/FAMILY CONDUCT SCC has a reputation of being a very supportive club both in the gym and in the greater cheer community. We expect all our athletes to demonstrate good behavior both in person and on any media source. At SCC we have a communication policy each athlete/guardian is required to sign. Athletes found to be in breach of this will face penalties up to removal from the club. We expect each athlete and coach to be respected and to treat each other with respect. We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and supporting environment for all our athletes and teams to mature into true ambassadors for our sport. Upon registration you will receive our athlete/family handbook. This book outlines our expectations of our members and their immediate family and it is highly recommended that you read this thoroughly as it will outline all you need to know regarding conduct and being a member of the SCC family. We expect our athletes to be well presented at trainings and competitions. Each teams coach or the club administration will set expectations as to the required dress code for practices and competitions. This may include the following, Practice uniforms Competition attire Presentation expectations DRESS CODE Piercings and jewelery are not to be worn at practices or competitions and nails are to be kept short and rounded, as cheerleading is a contact sport and we don t want to cause discomfort to you or other athletes. ATHLETE INSURANCE/AMBULANCE We do provide athletes personal accident insurance which covers them for any injuries sustained whilst training. However as a minimum we recommend taking out ambulance cover for your athlete as if an injury occurs and the coach/first aid officer deems that an ambulance is needed, we will call this on behalf of the athlete. SCC will bear no responsibility to the costs associated with the ambulance.
