Miss Muscadine Pageant GENERAL INFORMATION ADMISSION: Adults - $10.00 Students - $5.00 Children 3 and under free Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. REGISTRATION: Application deadline: September 3, 2011 Please submit a digital headshot via disc or email to missmuscadine@gmail.com. This shot will be used for all contestants in the program and used to judge the Most Photogenic category if you choose to enter this category BASE REGISTRATION FEE: $50.00 Each contestant may choose to pay the $50.00 or have a business sponsor the entry fee. The corporate sponsor will be listed in the program as long as that sponsor is provided by the application deadline of September 3, 2011. PAGEANT: Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Sweetwater Elementary School auditorium in Schedule of events for contestants: 9:00 AM Dance routine practice and rehearsal 12:00 PM Lunch provided by The Catering Connection, Sweetwater 1:00 3:00 PM Judge s interviews 3:00-5:30 PM Contestant preparation for pageant (permitted to leave premises) 5:30 PM Contestants ready 6:30 PM Pageant Starts **Each contestant can have one female assistant in the dressing area for preparation and the pageant DUTIES: The winner will be required to make several appearances through the next weekend (September 23-24, 2011) during the National Muscadine festival in. The winner is asked to participate in the opening ceremony on Friday as well as the parade on Saturday in addition to attend other festival festivities as needed. Conduct unbecoming of The National Muscadine Queen will result in immediate removal of the title and crown, with the 1 st Runner-up taking the crown, title, and duties. The Muscadine Queen will be a spokeswoman for the National Muscadine Festival and shall possess the qualities expected of a representative of this festival. All Contestants will be allowed to ride in the National Muscadine Festival parade on Saturday, September 24, 2011. AGE : At the time of the pageant, all contestants must be a student currently enrolled as a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in high school. COMPETITION EVENTS: JUDGES INTERVIEW: Each contestant must sit before a panel of judges for a five-minute interview. Interview/ professional attire is required. OPENING ROUTINE: Each contestant will be required to learn a short choreographed routine to open the show and introduce herself. Each girl must wear black crop yoga-style pants, extending past the knee and a brightly colored plain solid t-shirt in which to perform a group routine. CASUAL WEAR: Each contestant shall tastefully display her personality and poise through her selection of a casual outfit, in which she will be required to perform a stage walk. FORMAL WEAR: Each contestant must have a formal dress that reflects her personality and style. It will also be worn for the on-stage question and for crowning of the queen.
Breakdown of scoring: Judge s Interview- 40% Casual Wear- 20% Formal Wear-20% Question-10% Self-expression (including opening routine): 10% The top 30% overall scoring contestants (based on 90% from above) will be chosen to answer an on-stage question. This question will account for the last 10% of the total score for the evening. Extra Competition Event This event is optional and has no effect on the overall winner. Most Photogenic: Based on the submitted digital photo (either submitted disk or emailed to missmuscadine@gmail.com) and decided by judges prior to initial interview. To compete in this additional category, please add $20 to the registration fee. The winner of this award will receive a photo session by Shamblin Photography which includes photo session, 11x14, 8x10,4 5x7,16 wallets and a CD of all photos taken. RULES: Refer t0 additional document for all rules of eligibility and title holder requirements. PRIZES: Each contestant will receive a participation prize. The winner will receive flowers, a tiara, a trophy, a sash, an outfit from Joseph Ribkoff and a $500 scholarship. 1 st Runner-up will receive flowers, a tiara, a trophy, and a $250 scholarship and assume the duties of the queen if she is unable to complete her reign for any reason. The 2 nd runner-up will receive flowers, a tiara, and a trophy. Trophies provided by The Minuteman Gift Shop, Sweetwater; Flowers provided by Sweetwater Flower Shop; Tiara and sash provided by The Lily Pad Boutique, Sweetwater; and the Ribkoff outfit provided by Joseph Ribkoff designs, an official sponsor of the Miss America Pageant. Additional corporate sponsors of the pageant include The Catering Connection, Hunter s Bakery & Café, and Shamblin Photography, all of Sweetwater. ADS: Corporate sponsors, friends, and/or relatives may purchase ads in the program to support the contestants. All ads must be submitted by September 3, 2011 in a ready to print format. We reserve the right to reject any ad with inappropriate content or from businesses who do not reflect the spirit of the pageant. Ads are professionally printed in black and white. Professional photos must include a copyright release from the photographer. A gift donated by The Lily Pad Boutique will be given to the contestant who sells the most ads based on total dollar amount. All money from the ads will go to the Miss Muscadine pageant scholarship fund. The program will be available the night of the event. Anyone showing bad sportsman like conduct will be ask to leave. Miss Muscadine Pageant ELIGIBILITY ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS In order to be eligible for the Miss Muscadine Festival Pageant, all contestants: Must not be married, never been married, and never had a marriage annulled. Must never have given birth to a child, cannot be pregnant or be a parent. Must be of good health and moral character. Must be a naturally born female and a citizen of the United States. Must be a freshman through senior in high school on the day of the pageant. Must only collect the dollar amount for sponsorship set by the Muscadine Festival Committee. REQUIREMENTS FOR TITLEHOLDER Must be available to participate in the activities of the National Muscadine Festival including but not limited to the opening ceremony on Friday, September 23 and the parade on September 24 th as well as be a spokeswoman of the festival. Must participate in next year s National Muscadine Festival as a special guest and present the crown to the 2012 winner. Must participate in community service activities, fundraiser, and public appearances during the reigning year. Must maintain a passing grade point average. Must keep a great attitude, be a positive role model for her peers, and maintain and uphold the honor and dignity of the Muscadine Festival Pageant. Must not be involved in any disciplinary actions, either at school or in the community. If the Miss Muscadine titleholder fails to meet any of the eligibility or requirements listed above, she will be required to return all winnings and step down from her title. The runner up will become the official titleholder.
