Miss Orangeburg County Teen 2017 Job Description The Face of the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization The vast majority of South Carolinians and especially Orangeburg County residents who have exposure with Miss Orangeburg County Teen will have such contact through a photo in a magazine or newspaper or through a television program. When people see Miss Orangeburg County Teen, she must generate a positive reaction for the organization. All of the constituencies she serves must look at her as a young woman who is Miss Orangeburg County Teen. She must represent the best of contemporary women between the ages of 13 and 17 in her look as well as in her dress, mannerisms and demeanor. The youth of our state must be able to find her as someone to whom they can relate; but, at the same time, she must present a professional image when called upon to meet with corporate sponsors, elected officials and leaders in the For-Profit and Non-Profit communities. Her charisma and dynamic personality must come through in every encounter she has as Miss Orangeburg County Teen. She must be a young woman who possesses that it factor that everyone recognizes, but finds hard to describe. The Voice of the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization The second largest group of South Carolinians who come in contact with Miss Orangeburg County Teen are those who hear her speak (whether in-person or through the media). As the voice of Miss Orangeburg County Teen, she must be able to promote and market the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization directly and indirectly as part of her normal schedule. In order to accomplish these tasks she must be comfortable in her own skin, confident, perceived as real, natural and genuine and she must be true to who she is as a person. She must be able to verbalize the goals and vision of the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization. She must be able to motivate people from every age range and socio- economic background to action. After hearing Miss Orangeburg County Teen speak, one should walk away with a feeling of hope, empowerment and that Miss Orangeburg County Teen has made a difference in their lives. She needs to be able to serve as a sincere, committed advocate for the issue she has chosen to address during her year as Miss Orangeburg County Teen. She must also be able to serve as a sincere and committed advocate for other causes deemed important by the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization. Throughout her year, she will appear on behalf of, as well as promote, Children s Miracle Network Hospitals. CMNH is a national partner with the Miss America s Outstanding Teen Organization and Miss Orangeburg County Teen will make a tremendous impact on both organizations because of her commitment to this cause. Therefore, she must be able to promote with sincerity and compassion the mission of this worthwhile organization, along with the triumphs of its miracle children, their parents and the hospitals doctors and staff. In addition, the new Miss Orangeburg County Teen must understand that the opportunities provided to her in relation to promoting her chosen

platform and other opportunities she deems important are only made possible through the success of the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization as a whole. This success is accomplished in large part through the generosity and support provided by the organization s corporate sponsors and partners. A large portion of Miss Orangeburg County Teen s job during her year of service will be to guarantee the success of the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization through serving as a spokesperson for these sponsors and partners. Miss Orangeburg County Teen s success in this role provides the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization the ability to grow and, in turn, allows Miss Orangeburg County Teen contestants and organizations at the local level to continue to be relevant and heard in their communities. Her success in this role as spokesperson/ambassador in many ways determines the influence of our organization and its contestants across the state. In regard to these aspects of the job description, the judges will focus more on the contestant s abilities and skills to serve in this capacity and not on the amount of knowledge the contestant has retained regarding CMNH or other corporate sponsors. However, the contestant must be aware of the partnerships and the role she will play as Miss Orangeburg County Teen. She will receive adequate training and background information necessary to do this portion of the job once she is selected Miss Orangeburg County Teen 2016. She must be willing to embrace these responsibilities and new-found opportunities to impact the lives of others. She must also fulfill all contractual obligations involving special events, speaking engagements, personal appearances, autograph sessions, Red Carpet/VIP Events, media interviews and all other events and appearances as deemed necessary by the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Organization. The Talent of the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization The talent phase of competition differentiates the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization from other programs like it. It also assists in differentiating the contestant who should be Miss Orangeburg County Teen from the others. Miss Orangeburg County Teen is expected to be talented. While the opportunity for her to perform her talent, whatever it may be, is rare; the reality is that even if she is called upon only once during her year as Miss Orangeburg County Teen to perform her talent, it must be good. The moment a Miss Orangeburg County Teen performs her talent, the credibility of the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization is put on the line. While she may not be the most talented contestant among those competing, she must be talented. Job Expectations Miss Orangeburg County Teen is on-call twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week for the duration of her time as Miss Orangeburg County Teen. While there will be scheduled days off for rest, those days will not be scheduled with any regularity. Miss Orangeburg County Teen may experience days with limited to no obligations, as well as several consecutive days in which she is scheduled to work very long hours. Miss Orangeburg County Teen must understand that her position as Miss Orangeburg County Teen is for an entire year. While this intense schedule may seem exciting in the first few weeks, the reality is that she must approach her job with that same excitement for the duration of her year as this organization s state representative. The role of Miss Orangeburg County Teen is only limited by the capabilities and the desires

of the young woman who wears the crown of Miss Orangeburg County Teen. There are many people who will never forget the day they met Miss Orangeburg County Teen. The young woman who wears the crown of Miss Orangeburg County Teen must understand the role she plays in society. She will meet supporters and detractors and she must be able to treat them all with respect, humor when necessary and with the finesse of a trained diplomat. There are corporate realities to being Miss Orangeburg County Teen and she must be able to meet those corporate challenges in a way that sponsors and potential sponsors see the Miss Orangeburg County Scholarship Organization as worthy of their time, their attention and their corporate dollars. There are people, especially children, who see meeting Miss Orangeburg County Teen as a life changing moment. Miss Orangeburg County Teen must fully understand her potential impact on the state and must be able to push herself and the organization to live up to the responsibilities of being such a person and such an organization of influence. Miss Orangeburg County Teen, by definition of her role in society, is a celebrity and as a result will be required to deal with the positive and negative effects of being such a celebrity. As a result, her personality must be one that is congenial when meeting fans, volunteers, sponsors and partners. Her personality IS the Miss Orangeburg County Scholarship Organization. However she is seen by anyone who meets her, she defines the entire organization from the largest corporate sponsor to the contestants in a local pageant. Miss Orangeburg County Teen s personality and attitude defines us every day and helps to create new paths for the future of the organization. Miss Orangeburg County Teen may receive appearance fees; they are not guaranteed and are at the discretion of the sponsoring organization. Under no circumstances are you to ask for a sponsor to pay you for an appearance. This action will result in immediate forfeiture of your title and relinquishing all prizes, monetary scholarships and rewards as Miss Orangeburg County Teen 2016. All appearances are set by the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization. However, no amount of money can be assigned for the amount of influence a woman her age can and will have on the people who see her, hear her and are changed by her. The way in which she decides to approach her role as Miss Orangeburg County Teen will have a profound and longstanding impact on the Miss Orangeburg County Teen Scholarship Organization and the legacy that she and the organization provide this state. I have read and fully understand the requirements of the job I have applied for. Name: Jane Doe Title: Miss Orangeburg County Teen 2017 Celebrating Cultural Diversity and Inclusiveness It is imperative that this nation face and embrace its cultural diversity. While many people have talked about this issue, I believe that most of them have only paid lip service to the true necessity of what needs to be addressed related to this issue. There is a false truth in merely accepting and tolerating cultural diversity. I intend to prove that in order to accept and understand people of other cultures; one must be willing to step out of a personal cultural comfort zone and identify the origin of their prejudice. I will specifically focus on three areas: Children, Communities, and Businesses. The title of Miss Orangeburg County Teen, combined with the national media already looking at the surface of this issue, will allow me to create the national awareness that must exist. Currently, the term Cultural Diversity is well known in the halls of institutions of higher learning and, perhaps, even in the public school classroom because of the need for some to be politically correct. But, in order for us to make a true change in attitudes and behaviors of Americans, we must move beyond talk and into action and policy changes. My plan is to motivate the media and to partner with the National Conference for Community and Justice. This organization has chapters in every major city in the nation and, in many cases, those chapters have community leaders involved who can, with encouragement and challenging, bring this issue out of hiding and into the public light in each of those communities. Obviously, the media and the NCCJ already exist. However, what is lacking is a lightening rod to draw attention to this issue. This is where the Miss South Carolina State Organization steps into the lead. What better role is there for Miss Orangeburg County Teen than to be an agent of change in organizing our nation to accept our differences and to create an environment that values each person on individual characteristics rather than on stereotypes or assumptions? For years, Miss South Carolina Teen was seen as a young woman who cut ribbons and appeared in parades. It is time for Miss Orangeburg County Teen to step out of the convertible and lead the parade. Our country s ethnic make-up is changing rapidly and our citizen s fear of terrorism can explode already existing, but deeply hidden prejudices. I want to be the leader that this organization needs. This nation needs this issue addressed now and through the already existing NCCJ and its local and state organizations combined with the power of Miss Orangeburg County Teen, we can make a concrete difference now, which will change the direction and the future of our nation. Employment: Internship with a Law Firm; Internship with local ABC television affiliate; Student Assistant at State University. Marketing Plan: I would combine my experience as an intern with a major national marketing firm with my strong belief in the Miss America Organization to establish a three-step plan to market this national program. I would work at educating these corporate and commercial sponsors on the truth of our organization. Through meetings with key decision makers within these organizations, I would change their attitudes toward the benefits of partnering with our organization. Finally, I would then ask for the sale and demonstrate to them how a joint partnership will further the goals of both organizations. Legacy: My hope is that in the year of my service as Miss Orangeburg County Teen, I would leave a marked, concrete, and measurable difference in this community regarding the way we respect each other s cultural heritage. I hope that through my continued involvement on the national level with the National Conference for Community and Justice that we will hold events at the grassroots level, which not only discuss that topic, but bring about local and state-wide policy changes in which we address cultural diversity in the workplace. Why I should be Miss Orangeburg County Teen 2016: The reality is that Miss Orangeburg County Teen can have her greatest sphere of influence among our community s youth. By placing Miss Orangeburg County Teen in the midst of our community s young people, we start the process of changing mindsets and, ultimately, changing the way in which they will treat one another in the future. The issues related to Celebrating Cultural Diversity and Inclusiveness are not just related to race, but also to religion, cultural differences, and sexism. There is no greater

role for Miss Orangeburg County Teen than to educate, empower, and embrace the issue of cultural diversity at this point in our community s history.
