Southern California Yachting Association Organized 1921 Dear Friends, 2008 is the 79th year that the Southern California Yachting Association has sponsored the Midwinter Regatta. This event is the most unique regatta held anywhere in the world. From Santa Barbara to San Diego, hundreds of volunteers will make it possible for over 600 boats with crew numbering in the thousands to participate. More than 30 racing venues will be hosted by individual SCYA member clubs. Classes include one-design, PHRF, cruiser, Juniors, Masters, Seniors, inshore, offshore, model boats, land yachts, predicted log racing and outrigger canoes. These numbers and the rich diversity of classes are unprecedented in racing. With the Olympic Games in Bejing coming up later this year, look for more action than usual in all of our Olympic classes. The goals for the 2008 SCYA Midwinter Regatta Committee include introducing new participants to this sport that we love so much while continuing to offer more varied classes than ever.
