If passive grade crossing devices (crossbucks) are present, the stop bar should be located at the crossbuck, but no closer than 15 feet from the nearest rail. 2. " X " pavement markings can be omitted for exclusive right turn lane locations. " X " pavement markings are optional for center lane left turn only lanes. 3. On divided roadways, additional warning devices may be installed in the median. 4. At locations where an intersecting crossroad is within 100 feet of the grade crossing (measured from intersection radius to nearest rail), a W10-2, W10-3, or W10-4 sign shall be erected at a distance "L" (see table on sheet 1) measured along the centerline of the far right lane as shown. 5. The alternate pavement markings may be specified at any grade crossing, but their use is particularly advantageous on roadways subjected to high traffic volumes, since they are designed to minimize the amount of markings applied in the wheel tracks, thereby extending marking life. Identical types of markings shall be installed on both roadway approaches. 6. Unless specifically stated otherwise on contract plans or in the proposal, payment for the 24 inch (typ.) transverse markings immediately above and below the " X " marking will be paid for separately.
