COMING UP BREAKFAST CLUB Tomorrow the Breakfast Club, sponsored by the Northland Christian Church, will serve breakfast from 6:45-7:25am. Students and staff are welcome to enjoy this week s menu of Breakfast Burritos and Hash Browns. The Church is located across the street from Winnetonka. The Church will offer breakfast every Thursday this semester except for November 22 nd. December 20 th will be the last one this semester before Winter Break. MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT LATE TO CLASS! HOMECOMING EVENTS Spirit Week Themes: 10/9 Tuesday: Twin Tuesday (Match with your date or a group of friends) 10/10 Wednesday: It s Wednesday my dudes Meme day (dress up like your favorite meme or vine) 10/11 Thursday: Walking yearbook (wear a shirt and bring a sharpie to get signed by your classmates) 10/12 Friday: Tonka Big top (red and gold or dress like a member of the circus) Parade: The homecoming parade will be held here at Tonka on Friday the 12 th at 1 o clock. We will have a Pep Rally on the Football Field immediately after the parade. Email Ms. Green if you and your club/activity is interested in having a float or walking in the parade. Homecoming Football game: The football game is Friday the 12 th at 7 o clock at Northtown. The Griffins take on the Platte County Pirates and the homecoming King and Queen will be announced at Half time.

REGISTERED TO VOTE? Students if you would like to register to vote for the November election you can do so by going to the Missouri Secretary of State Website at https://www.sos.mo.gov/elections/govotemissouri/register Follow the instructions to fill out your application. Applications may need to be mailed in or hand delivered. All applications are due by Oct 10 th to vote in this November s election. You can register 6 months before your 18 th birthday, but you cannot vote until you are 18. HOMECOMING 2018 Theme: Big Top Spirit days: TBD Formal Assembly: Friday, 10/12 at 9:30 am (sit with 3 rd block class) Parade: Friday, 10/12 at 1:00 pm with a pep assembly following (sit with graduating class) before dismissal at 2:40. Game: Friday, 10/12 at 7:00 pm vs. Platte County Pirates at District Football Stadium (NKCHS) Dance: Saturday, 10/13 from 7:00 10:00 pm here at Winnetonka s main gym. Dance tickets will go on sale the week of homecoming (October 9 12) during lunch. A single ticket is $8.00 or you can purchase 2 tickets for $15.00. T-shirts will also be available for purchase with price TBD. B.A.G (BLACKS ACHIEVING GREATNESS) Blacks Achieving Greatness is moving meetings back to Friday Club Time in RC6. The next meeting will be Friday, October 26 th. We are also recruiting students for an overnight college tour to St. Louis, which will include visits to two Historically Black Colleges and Universities. If you re interested in this FREE opportunity, please see Mr. Caffey or Ms. Todd in the counseling office! IMMUNIZATION CLINIC November 29 th in room RC6: All students 16 years of age of older may attend. This is an opportunity for you to receive the 2 nd MCV dose that is required for 12 th grade as well as your FLU SHOT. REMINDERS Outside restaurant food and/or drinks are no longer accepted for student delivery. Homemade lunches may still be dropped off. Any restaurant delivery will be turned away at the front door. Any student who comes with restaurant food will not be allowed to take it into the school building. When you come in late, you will need to report to the main office (D5) to sign in and get a tardy (blue) pass. When you leave early, you need to sign out in the main office (D5) and get an Early Release (white) pass. Please do not forget to sign in/out and get your passes. Those are your tickets to class and out the doors. During construction, the main entry is on the East side of the school the staff parking lot side. Students are to park on the West side (student parking) but after 7:43am have to enter, be picked up or dropped off on the Staff parking lot side.

THE WINNETONKA GOLDEN STEPPERS STEP-TEAM The Winnetonka Golden Steppers Step-Team is back in action! They are looking for people who are dedicated & determined to be a part of something new. No experience is needed, just bring a positive attitude & get ready to step into upbeat family. They come through to show out! Sign-up sheets are located downstairs by the Main Gym near the girl s restroom, and upstairs by the counselor s office near the Tonka True sign. The Seal of Biliteracy is recognition awarded to students who have attained proficiency in English and at least one other language before high school graduation. The recognition of attaining biliteracy becomes a part of the high school transcript for these students and serves to certify attainment of biliteracy for the community, employers, and college admissions. Students can earn free college credit just by having the seal! It is recognized not only in Missouri but all across the U.S. This recognition is for anyone who is bilingual native English-speaking students who have acquired a second language in the classroom and English learners (ELs) and other heritage language learners.
