MINUTES OF APRIL, 2018 MEETING President Larry Readal opened the meeting at 6:10. There were three guests/new members: DANIEL GABE, DOUG LEWIS (a Wounded Warrior), and ZACH BRISTER. All welcomed them and there was a round of applause. Secretary/Treasurer Mirza Strujo reported we have 147 members and about $5,600 in the account and reminded everyone to renew their membership! They can call, mail, email, text, or renew on the Website. Tournament Captain Ira Joseph mentioned upcoming shoots: 12 MAY BBH IBO QUALIFIER 26-27 MAY VBA STATE OPEN TOURNAMENT (Sherwood Hosting) 16 JUN BBH BOWFISHING TOURNAMENT 30 JUN BBH PIG ROAST AND 3D SHOOT Ira also mentioned that BBH is now out of the Local Club 3D competition since we didn t have shooters in the last shoot. There was some discussion on this, that maybe a Trad category would attract some shooters like Paul Vogel. Ira mentioned that it was a little late this year as far as us being able to lock in folks a little better, but that the overall broader goal is participation by Clubs in other Club s shoots, and encouraged BBH folks to support our other Clubs locally. Publicity Director Ron Bailey wasn t able to make the meeting so Larry mentioned that we are pretty much caught up on the newsletter - THANKS to everyone for helping us get there. Also, we are always looking for feedback on the newsletter, good or bad. Also, Ron will PCS in July so WE NEED A REPLACEMENT FOR THIS POSITION BY JUNE TO DO TURNOVER. PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CLUB AND VOLUNTEER FOR THIS POSITION Activities Director Jerry Michonski reminded everyone about the WILD GAME DINNER on SATURDAY, 28 APR out at Park West Lions Club in Manassas. TWO FOR ONE RAFFLE TICKETS UNTIL 15 APRIL! He needs membership help in donating prizes, especially ladies and kids prizes. We always need a lot of volunteer help PLEASE SIGN UP ON THE COMMITTEE SHEETS GOING AROUND, THANKS! Sgt-At-Arms Valerie Clay reminded everyone to PLEASE DONATE MEAT NOW for the Wild Game Dinner!!! and to let her know what you are donating by signing up on the sheet going around. THANKS. Also, Valerie mentioned she is on travel in May, and needs a volunteer to cook for the May meeting. PAULA SCHASBERGER volunteered to do a brisket!!! There was a round of applause. Range Warden James Blake talked about the Wild Game Dinner Animal Awards and Display and reminded everyone to please bring some DISPLAY animals as well as animals to COMPETE! He mentioned we have NINE trophy categories, and quickly reviewed them: Best whitetail <6 points from Ft Belvoir with bow Best big game animal taken with a gun Best whitetail >6 points from Ft Belvoir with a bow Best small game animal taken with a bow Best whitetail taken off Belvoir with a bow Best big game animal taken with a bow Best whitetail taken off Belvoir with a gun Most creative Display Best harvest taken with a bow by a youth Charlie Shupenius then asked what about the Best Game Camera Picture Award? Larry Readal said he thought we took it off the list because no one had entered anything previously but that the Club can certainly put it back on the list! James also unfortunately reminded the Club that this is his last meeting as Range Warden. and said thanks to everyone for helping him out so much! Also, congratulations to Paul Vogel! Vice President Robin Vogel reminded everyone that the Wild Game Dinner is really FUN, and encouraged everyone to come out, and reminded all that this was where we recognize the folks that are really supporting the Club, so come out to recognize these folks! She mentioned the Club has six awards we ll give at the Wild Game Dinner: ACHIEVEMENT AWARD VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD STRAIGHT ARROW AWARD ARROWHEAD AWARD LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR Larry Readal chimed in that we will also give two LEE UMLER Awards which is the Club s most prestigious Game Award, and that we haven t given one in several years possibly as far back as 2002! President Larry Readal mentioned that we have 13 VBA Game Awards we will give out at the Wild Game Dinner, so we ll get to see a lot of folks get awards come out and support as the Club recognizes these folks! He also reminded everyone that the Wild Game Dinner is our premier event of the year and come on out it s a good time! He also said again the bow, crossbow, hog hunt and shotgun are some of our top prizes in the raffles! Larry re-emphasized that the event is much better if we have a lot of animals on display, so please BRING YOUR ANIMALS FOR DISPLAY! Page 18 of 19

OLD BUSINESS: Larry let the Club know the results of the April VBA Quarterly meeting and reminded folks these are the items the Club voted on at March meeting: 1. Section 15.1.10, Registration fees, pg. 12: Add Sect. E: A 80% refund will be sent to preregistered shooters upon a written request submitted within 2 weeks of tournament. The host club may keep 20% of fee and send refund within 14 days to shooter. Effective: immediately. Justification: Change wording in By-Laws as there is no section for refunds. Change pg. 11 to 12 to fit in new By-law printing. THIS ITEM PASSED. 2. Require the posting of all agenda items with submitting clubs name to the Flight issue, directly following the VBA quarterly meeting. Posting of voting results of agenda items to include the roll call votes for each item in the Flight magazine, following the votes. Effective immediately. Justification: Many members do not attend club meetings and deserve to know what changes are being proposed by clubs and the results of such. Also, this might spark interest in the VBA& encourage more members to attend meetings to be able to discuss the changes and have their vote counted. THIS ITEM PASSED 3. Bowhunters of Rockingham would like the VBA to donate a 48 X48 block target to the Town of Shenandoah for their new range. Effective Immediately. Justification: We believe this will help grow the sport of archery and promote the VBA. This may also help increase membership for BOR and Massanutten Archery Clubs. THIS ITEM PASSED. 4. Sherwood proposes that the format for the State Indoor Tournament be changed to allow each of the hosting Clubs to choose to hold two rounds per day instead of the normal three. Shooting times will be the Club s choice. Also, Friday night registration will be optional. Each hosting Club would be responsible to show on their flyer exactly what they will be doing and stick to it. Effective 2019. THIS ITEM PASSED. There was no NEW BUSINESS. Anthony Moore, the owner of ECM Taxidermy, and SSG Jeff Nutter, Wounded Warrior Cadre, then presented Doug Lewis a fantastic shoulder mount of a deer Doug and killed on one of the Wounded Warrior hunts! There was a long round of applause! Rick Atchison then gave an overview of the progress and results of the Southeastern Deer Study Group that he had recently attended. Larry Readal departed prior to the beginning of the presentation due to travel early the next morning. The presentation was very well received, and there were numerous questions and discussion. The meeting was adjourned by the Vice President at 7:50 PM. Page 19 of 19
