The boys delivered their best bowling performance of the year to restrict Churchill to 60 for 5 in the first 15 overs. Chisango and Garande each bowled 4 overs with great discipline to record figures of 0-12 and 2-13 respectively. Unfortunately the final 5 overs were a little loose which allowed the opposition to reach 107 for 8. Myers and Raja also bowled well to record 2-22 and 2-27 respectively. Saint's reached the target inside 17 overs for the loss of 6 wickets (a few given away unnecessarily) with co-captains Lusiyano (40 not out) and Garande (29) doing most of the work. Saint's played Falcon next in what was effectively a semi-final. The boys did not bowl with the same discipline as in their first match and allowed Falcon to reach 167 for 7. Muhammad was the best bowler with 2-19 in 3 overs. Saint's got off to a great start with Gwese and Garande featuring in an opening partnership of 62 at a run rate of nearly 10 an over! We then lost 3 quick wickets before the middle order consolidated and at 144 for 5 after 16 overs, we looked home and dry. Then disaster struck as Saint's lost 4 quick wickets, including 2 ridiculous run outs, and still needed 14 runs to win. The last batsman Muhammad entered the fray and, cool as a cucumber, steered the team to victory with 1 ball to spare! Top run scorers were Matimbira (38), Garande (32) and Gwese (24). The much-anticipated final against John's proved to be a real humdinger! Saint's batted first and notched up a defendable total of 164 for 5 with Matimbira continuing his improved form in the previous match top-scoring with 53 not out. Chitengwa also found some form at last with 35 valuable runs and the dependable Gwese got the innings off to start with 27. Saint's bowled well most of the time to keep the opposition behind the required run rate but there were lapses throughout the John's innings which allowed the batsmen to keep their noses in the game. At 108 for 5 after 14 overs the opposition required to score at 10 an over for the final 6 overs. The real turning point was the 17th over which went for 18 runs and, although Saint's kept trying, John's were able to knock off the runs with 2 balls to spare. For the record Chikukwa and Raja took 2 wickets each but Myers was the most economical bowler with 0-27 in his 4 overs. P d'hotman
