Golden Goal 2017 Valley Rovers Ladies Football & Camogie Clubs Dear Club Member, Both clubs have once again joined forces to conduct our main joint fundraising event for the year the Golden Goal ticket event. The winning ticket prize is 500.00 and this year, it could be you!!!!!!!!! Last year, thanks to your support we had the best year ever and the clubs raised over 3,000 each, to fund much needed development of the club including, jerseys, training equipment, pitch development and contributions to the various clubs and organisations we need to make each year. The funds raised from this event are vital for each club to remain as viable organisations providing a wonderful service to the players and their families. This year, we have decided to allocate each family a set number of tickets, which we are kindly asking to be sold in full. Tickets are priced as follows: 1 Ticket 2.00 3 Tickets 5.00 Packet of 21 Tickets - 35.00 (where eldest daughter is Under 9 or older) Packet of 12 Tickets - 20 (where your eldest daughter is Under 8) Very simply we are selling scratch cards with a time on it (example 12 minutes and 43 seconds) and if the first goal comes in at this exact time in the All Ireland Mens Hurling final on 3 th September 2017, the winner gets 500!!. If the ticket is unclaimed the 500 goes to charity. We are asking that each family take a packet of tickets to sell to colleagues at work, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, clients, neighbours, the post man, your bank manager, your dentist anyone!!! So 21 tickets could easily be just 7 sales of 5 each. IMPORTANT!!! If, in the unlikely event that you are unable to sell all of your tickets, please please please return all unsold tickets to your team mentor/coach BEFORE Friday25 th August, to allow them to be sold. Otherwise they may be recorded as sold and the money will be due. LADIES FOOTBALL ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONS forward lines played strong, scoring points and conceding very little, with mid-field contributing to both. However, the girls were put under pressure when Bantry came powering back scoring two goals before half time leaving Valleys trailing by 2 points with a score of 2:5 to 1:6. Going into the second half Bantry kept the pressure on scoring another fast goal. This unsettled Valleys slightly but their determination and fighting spirit came into play as they kicked over points to reduce the gap. Bantry were ahead in the last 10 minutes after scoring another goal but Valleys upped the tempo again for the last few minutes, and with immense support from the sideline, scored a goal and a point to end the match winning by a point. Final score 3:13 to 4:9. Overall it was a great team performance with all 5 substitutions being made during the game. In May this year our U8 ladies football team played their first match against Kinsale in Dunderrow. A second leg was arranged this week where Kinsale came and played us at a sun-drenched Bleach on Tuesday evening last and this time they also brought there U10 s. There was a great turn out from our Valleys squads and it is obvious the girls are enjoying their football and getting plenty of encouragement at home. Anyone at the game would agree our players are making great progress and improving steadily. It was great to see such a hive of activity at the Bleach and plenty of good football on display. Photograph above of our U8 players. Above is a picture of our Victorious Junior team after they beat Castlemartyr in Castlemartyr on a score line of Valley Rovers 6-08, Castlemartyr 1-01. Well done to all. Yes you are right, that is Mary Crowley, Bernie Shiels, and Helena Buglar in picture in gear, well done to those players. Unfortunately we had to give the points to Castlemartyr due to not having adequate Junior players on the night, as we were aided by two of our senior players Ena Crowley and Sarah McCarthy, We are very proud of you all. Our next game is against Castlelyons next Wednesday. JUVENILE CAMOGIE UNDER 16 s JUNIOR LEAGUE U16 Premier 1 Hurling Championship Valley Rovers 1.13 V s Glen Rovers 2.19 U16 P1 hurlers met Glen Rovers in their quarter final game last Thursday in Ballygarvan. The Glen played with the wind in the first half and put it up to Valleys. The Glen led at half time 1-12 to 0-4. Valleys missed a few frees and the Glen keeper made a great save just on the half time whistle. Valleys came out in the 2 nd half and took it to the Glen. A number of unanswered points brought valleys back into the game but a Glen goal put paid to our challenge. Glen went on to win on a score line of 2-19 to 1-13. D Keane, Page 5 of 6
