The Newark Ski Club Board is in the process of planning and approving upcoming activities for the year. The activities planning committee met on April 20 to plan and schedule activities for the coming months. Joe Phillips will undoubtedly need some trip leaders so stay close to your phone. Deb Crall and Nancy Channel have responded to public outcry and will be setting up some happy hour outings. If you have a fantastic idea or just feel slighted because we never socialize in your neighborhood, give these volunteers some input. We are excited to have Ken Apacki and Bob Rush from the Licking County Bicycle Club at our May meeting. Many of you know these men as biking partners of our own Eddie McKee. Come hear about their adventures, fantastic trips, and biking opportunities closer to home. And now a short word about technology. Many of you receive your newsletter by email.some do not. We sometimes have an activity that pops up after the newsletter has been sent. The OSU Spring game on April 24 is a good example. I anticipate there will be more next year. If you have an email address but haven t told the club, please consider doing so. It would make it much easier to stay in quick contact with you. Just send me note and I will get you included. TRIP LEADERS WANTED!!! We have tentatively scheduled a Bicycle Ride for Sunday, July 18th or 25th, 2010. We need someone to grab this opportunity to lead this tour. The bonus YOU get to map the trail! You will decide where to go, roughly how long to ride, and what paths to follow! So, all you cyclists, now is your chance to explore new trails, revisit old favorites, or just get your favorite spots in the packs. If you are up to the challenge, speak to Bruce or any Board member before you lose out. We are always looking for Trip Leaders, whether experienced or new. Showcase what makes YOU special to our club. Bring your ideas about where to go and what to do to any Board member, then volunteer to lead. Keep an eye on the Tentatively Planned Trips column to find your opportunity to better your club. Without Trip Leaders, we wouldn't go anywhere. So help us help you explore the world, this continent, our great country, and maybe, your neck of the woods!! Inside this Issue Prez Sez... Trip Leaders Wanted!!! Page MAY 22010 2 Wine Train All Aboard the Wine Train Cuyahoga Valley National Park August 20 21, 2010 Alaska Cruise on the Sapphire Princess We had so much fun last year that we are going to go back to the wine train again this year. Make the short trip up to Hudson, Ohio to explore the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National park from the comfort of a vintage train car. While being served 5 unique wines from New Zealand, along with light appetizers, you can peer through the windows and enjoy the breath taking view. You might catch a glimpse of white tailed deer, blue heron hunting in the Cuyahoga River, families enjoying a hike along the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail, and historic buildings that hold within their frames stories of those who have called this valley home. For $143 per person ( based upon double occupancy ) you can enjoy not only coach seating on the 2 hour trip through the park, but also overnight accommodations at the Clarion Hotel in Hudson, $30 voucher for 2 towards dinner, transportation to and from the train, and a buffet breakfast on Saturday morning! ( P lease note that the rooms and packages are set up for 2 people/room ). In order to hold your spot on this great trip we need you put down $72 per person deposit by June 1, with the final payment due by the July 6 meeting. Several of our members have been on this wine train in the past and I m sure would agree with me that it is a great time. We only have spots for 24 people, sign up today or see me with any questions. We wont tell, but we do know which Birthday you are celebrating! NEWS FROM APRIL S MEETING At our April meeting we voted to change one of the bylaws and elected new Board members. We added a statement to the bylaws to allow trip leaders to be able to decide when to allow associate club members (those who are members of other clubs, but not Newark) to sign up for our trips. The statement is being included under Newark Ski Club Trip/Activity Policies, stated as: "At the time the trip budget is presented to the board for approval, the trip leader or the board, should a trip leader not yet be designated, will state whether the trip is available to members of associate clubs and at what date non-newark Ski Club members may sign up." Bruce Kern was elected to a 2 year term as President, Penny Slater won a 1 year term as Vice President, Sandy Moore got re-elected to a 2 year Treasurer term, Tim Crowley got another 1 year term as Director at Large, and I joined the Board for a 2 year term as Newsletter Editor. From all of us on the Board, we would like to thank you for your votes, inputs, and considerations in helping to maintain the nuts and bolts that keep Newark Ski Club this active and vital group.
