League Statistics Fourth Year Second largest rifle or pistol competition in the USA. 166 Registered Teams 131 Sporter Teams 35 Precision Teams 1722 Athletes Participants from 36 states. Texas has 19 teams. Florida has 13 teams. Georgia and North Carolina have 11 teams.
Changes from 2017 Changes to promote competition between equitable teams Two divisions per league, Champions and Distinguished. Dynamic Scheduling, teams compete against other teams of near equal skill level. Changes to promote score integrity Minimal qualifying score for Champions Division from outside competitions. Targets will periodically be reviewed. Mandatory use of color coded labels on each target. Range command script given to each coach to follow.
Changes from 2017 cont. Changes to improve regular season play Team Ranking based on seasonal average + win / loss record. Inter-conference games. Multiple bye weeks are allowed. Teams may request specific opponents. Changes to improve postseason play Sporter teams shoot 3x20, Precision teams shoot 60 standing. Only teams from the Champions division may qualify for the Championship or Invitational tournament. Distinguished division conference title games.
The Season Pre-Season: Going on now, through 23 September. Regular Season: 24 September to 18 November. Most weeks will be exactly 1 game. All teams will have at least 1 bye-week. Schedule is created dynamically by Orion. All team members may participate. Post-Season Tournaments: 26 November to 16 December. Champions Division single elimination tournament, one game each week. Distinguished Division one game Conference Title Match Must declare 5 firing members each week.

Squadding Into Divisions Champions Division Requires minimum qualifying scores from: League play in 2017 Outside sanctioned competitions. Sporter Minimum Qualifying Score: 1005 Precision Minimum Qualifying Score: 1374 All other teams squadded into Distinguished Expect the minimum qualifying scores to go up in 2019
Games One game each week. The week is defined as Monday through Sunday. Sporter course of fire is a 3x10. 3x20 in postseason Precision course of fire is 40 shots standing. 60 standing in postseason All games are virtual, you will fire from your home range against another team in your division. Governed by the National Standard Three Position Air Rifle Rules. Range Officer commands provided in manual All scoring to be done by electronically. Protesting shot values (challenges) is prohibited.

Regular Season Dynamic Scheduling First two weeks of league all scheduling is random. Announced Wed, 19 Sept. Third week of the league scheduling is based on results from first week. Announced Mon, 1 Oct. Fourth week of league scheduling is based on results from weeks 1 and 2. Announced Mon, 8 Oct. And so on Teams will be squadded against other teams with similar league points. Teams may request specific bye weeks. May request more than one bye week. Will be listed in your schedule online. Teams may request to shoot against specific opponents. Teams with two or more DNS will not be scheduled.
Conference and Divisional Rankings Website will show rankings for all teams in a Division and just the teams within one Conference. Teams are ranked by League Points Sum of Seasonal Average plus Example: 5 points for each win. 0 points for each loss. -5 points for each DNS. -20 points for each DSQ. Team averages 1023.14 with a 4-3 record. League points is 1043.14 = 1023.14 + 5 points * 4 wins.
Post-Season Sporter Championships Tournament: Top eight teams from any of the Sporter Champions Divisions, according to league points. Sporter Invitational Tournament: Next eight teams from any of the Sporter Champions Divisions, according to league points.. Precision Championship Tournament: Top eight teams from either Precision Champions Divisions, according to league points. Distinguished Division Conference Title Game: Top two teams from the respective Distinguished Division Conferences. Seeded based on league points. Must declare your five athletes before firing. Course of fire increases.
How to Participate Consult the Instructions and Range Command Manual New game will be available each week on Monday by 12:00 noon. Print barcode labels on the provided blue sheets of labels. Hand out the targets just prior to firing. Collect targets after each stage. Mailed to each team Saturday Sept 15

Special Circumstances Scheduling conflict: May request a specific week off, need to know by close of business Thursday. Contact the league administrator at least one week ahead of the conflict, we may be able to let you shoot your game early. Athlete is sick: Too bad, game must go on. Orion always takes the top four scores as the team aggregate. Two games in a week: Caused by a schedule change. Must shoot the two courses of fire separately. Extreme condition: League Administrator may cancel a game.
Awards Regular Season Each team will receive: League Poster Each athlete from each team will receive: Participation pin. League sticker for their rifle. To be sent out mid-october. Each Champions Division Conference, top 3 regular season teams: Medals for all athletes. A Banner to be hung on your range. Each Distinguished Division Conference, top 1/3rd of teams (regular season + conference title game): Medals for all athletes. A Banner to be hung on your range.
Awards Postseason Each team participating in a postseason tournament. Medals for each athlete participating with the team. Postseason banner to be hung on your range. Plague for Sporter and Precision league MVP. The MVP is defined as the athlete from the team that wins the championship tournament who has the highest average score throughout the tournament, and who participated in all three tournament games.
Press Releases A vital goal of the league is greater positive attention to the sport, the league, and its teams. Orion will produce a press release or game recap after each game. Available on Orion Result Center. Emailed to your local and school newspapers. Facebook page maintained highlighting the action from each week.
Team Photos needed For use in press releases and facebook posts. Email to league@orionscoringsystem.com Include all of your team members. If possible wear team or school clothing.
Team Coach Responsibilities Being familiar with the league program and rules. Conduct each game according to the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle rules. Schedule each game within the time frame of the week (Monday to Sunday). Familiar with the correct use of Orion. Contact the League Administrator for any outstanding circumstance. Honesty and integrity of your team.
Score Integrity Targets will be reviewed each week. Correct scoring. Correctly applied penalties (e.g. extra shot fired). Correct use of the color coded barcode labels. Extra penalties may be assessed for violations. Contact our offices for assistance correctly using Orion.
Coach Contact Information A number of coaches want to reach out to their opposing teams coaches to wish them good luck. League Program allows for contact information to be shared. Email address and phone number. Coaches may opt out. Contact spreadsheet will be sent out soon. Please contact the opposing coaches each week and wish each other good luck.
Hints to succeed Teams are ranked by seasonable average plus wins and losses, be sure to compete every week, avoid taking a DNS. Make sure to get your scores in and check them on the website. Scores are due Sunday at midnight. Don t get discouraged if you drop a game or two at the start. A win at the start of the season counts as much as a win at the end of the season. Practice, practice, practice League play favors teams that improve.
