Sacramento River Cats News Extra inning walk-off spoils incredible comeback Home run barrage brings Sacramento back from down five before falling in 11 Reno, NV - After fighting back in amazing fashion to take the lead late, the Aces walked-off in the 11th, as the Sacramento River Cats (18-30) dropped the series opener to the Reno Aces (31-19) by a score of 7-6. Sacramento starter Dan Slania was hit hard early, but managed to keep the River Cats within striking distance by getting through six innings, allowing four runs on ten hits and three walks while striking out four. After a brilliant start by Aaron Laffey stymied the River Cats offense, Sacramento made noise against the Aces bullpen. Home runs by Juan Ciriaco and Jae-Gyun Hwang in the 8th made it 5-3, then long balls by Orlando Calixte and Ryder Jones gave the River Cats a 6-5 lead in the 9th. Steven Okert came on but allowed a game-tying sac-fly to send the game to extra innings. The Aces were able to break the tie in the 11th inning against Roberto Gomez when Ronnie Freeman singled up the middle to drive in the winning run for the 7-6 victory. The River Cats take on the Aces again tomorrow night in game two, as San Francisco Giants top prospect Tyler Beede (3-2, 3.31) will lead Sacramento as they face Reno lefty Anthony Banda (4-2, 4.44). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on Money 105.5 FM. Postgame Notes Home Runs Galore: The River Cats hit a pair of huge home runs in each of the final two innings of regulation to take the lead for the first time in the game the four home runs are the most they have hit as a team this season (hit three on May 11). Big Night for Calixte: The speedy center fielder had a monster game at the plate for Sacramento, going 4-6 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored, and two batted in Calixte's eight home runs lead the River Cats. Extras: The River Cats drop to 3-2 in extra-inning games, including 1-2 on the road. Personnel Matters: Left-handed pitcher Steven Okert was optioned by the San Francisco Giants on Friday, joining the team this afternoon in Reno...Right-hander Ryan Webb was placed on the Disabled List.

Richmond Flying Squirrels Jackpot! Squirrels Snap Skid With Seven-Run Ninth Losing Streak Halts At Seven Harrisburg, PA - The Flying Squirrels (18-29) erupted for seven runs in the ninth inning to overcome a three-run deficit and snap their seven game losing steak on Saturday at FNB Field. Dylan Davis delivered the go-ahead hit, turning a 4-1 defeat into an 8-4 victory over Harrisburg (21-25). The Squirrels sent 11 batters to the plate in the ninthinning and scored a season-high seven runs in the frame. Richmond will try to make it two straight wins on Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. Trailing 4-1 in the ninth, the Squirrels plated seven runs to steal a win away from Harrisburg and end their season-high seven game skid. Myles Schroder led off the inning with a base hit and the Senators bullpen duo of Andrew Robinson and R.C. Orlan walked the next three batters to give Richmond hope. Davis then smacked the go-ahead three-run double out to the gap in right center field. Schroder added the final run with an RBI single. He had two hits in the inning and three hits overall. Orlan (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on just one hit. The Squirrels struck first with a run off of Harrisburg right-hander Jaron Long in the first inning. Slade Heathcott fouled off a few 3-2 pitches then ripped a fastball to right field. The ball bounced on top of - and then over - the right field fence for his sixth home run of the season. Richmond's Jordan Johnson was able to keep the 1-0 lead intact by working around a steady stream of Harrisburg baserunners over the first three innings. Johnson stranded a pair of runners in the first and one more in the second. He worked with two runners on in the third and induced slugger Neftali Soto into a ground ball double play to end the threat. Johnson needed 48 pitches over the first three innings. Harrisburg continued to apply the pressure and finally broke through on Johnson with three runs in the fifth inning. Johnson walked a pair of batters and relinquished an RBI single to Neftali Soto to tie the game, 1-1. Drew Ward then walked to load the bases for Raudy Read. Read hit a sharp ground ball behind the bag at second base where CJ Hinojosa dove to cut it off. Hinojosa quickly threw wildly to first, allowing two more runs to score for a 3-1 Harrisburg advantage. Johnson lasted five innings and walked a career-high six batters in the no-decision. The righty allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits. He struck out three and threw 91 pitches- 43 for strikes. Following the run in the first, Jaron Long maintained control throughout his six innings. He allowed just to hits, both in the first, and stuck out six but received a no deicison. Long walked one and tossed 85 pitches The Senators added a run off the Richmond bullpen in the seventh to grab a 4-1 lead. Facing reyes Moronta, Soto launched his eighth home run of the season. Moronta then walked the bases loaded before Luis Pino entered to fan relief pitcher Erick Fedde to keep the game in tact. Tyler Cyr punched out two batters in a scoreless eighth inning and Carlos Alvarado finished the game with three strikeouts to secure the win.

San Jose Giants News Giants Finish Road Trip With 5-3 Victory San Jose wins five of seven games on trip MODESTO, CA - The San Jose Giants closed out their seven-game road trip with a 5-3 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Saturday night at John Thurman Field. The Giants (21-29) overcame an early two-run deficit in the contest to even the four-game home-and-home series with the Nuts at a game apiece. San Jose won five out of seven games on the road trip. Jalen Miller (2-for-4, 2B, 3B) doubled and tripled while Ryan Howard (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) added a pair of hits and drove home two runs to lead the Giants offensive attack. Bryan Reynolds (2-for-5, 2B) and Dillon Dobson (2-for-4, 2B) also contributed two hits apiece. Jake McCasland (2-4) earned the win after a solid six-inning start with three runs (all earned) allowed. McCasland, who did not surrender a run after the first inning, gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out five during his outing. Caleb Simpson (2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 SO) struck out five over two perfect innings of relief before Ryan Halstead (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO) worked the ninth to pick-up his eighth save of the year. San Jose initially enjoyed a 1-0 lead after scoring a run in the top of the first against Modesto starter Pablo Lopez. With two outs, Reynolds singled before taking second on a wild pitch. Garcia then ripped a double down the left field line to bring home Reynolds with the first run of the night. The Nuts though answered with a three-run bottom of the first against McCasland to take a 3-1 lead. Braden Bishop was hit by a pitch to start the inning before Jordan Cowan singled. Following a strikeout of Logan Taylor, clean-up hitter Eric Filia stepped to the plate and belted a double to deep left center. The hit scored both runners for a 2-1 Modesto advantage. Joey Curletta was up next and he also doubled as Filia scored to make it 3-1. McCasland though prevented further damage in the inning and then would not allow another run for the remainder of his start. The Giants then tied the game with single tallies in the third and fourth innings. In the top of the third, Miller hammered a triple to the fence in deep left center and immediately scored when the next batter, Howard, lifted a sacrifice fly to left. An inning later, Dobson singled with one out before he was forced out on Gio Brusa's fielder's choice grounder. Brusa then stole second and scored the tying run when Jonah Arenado laced a double into the right center field gap. Meanwhile, McCasland kept the Nuts off the scoreboard from the second through the sixth innings. The right-hander pitched around back-to-back two-out singles in the second before a caught stealing helped him through a leadoff single in the third. McCasland's only 1-2-3 inning of the night came in the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, Taylor doubled with two outs, but was stranded when Filia grounded out to end the inning. Then in the sixth, with the score still tied, Curletta drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second, but McCasland induced Joe DeCarlo to pop out before Donnie Walton grounded out to retire the side. San Jose then reclaimed the lead with a run in the top of the seventh against Modesto reliever Art Warren. Daniel Carbonell led off with a double down the left field line to put the go-ahead run in scoring position. Miller followed with a sacrifice bunt before a Warren wild pitch allowed Carbonell to score giving the Giants a 4-3 lead.

Simpson took over out of the bullpen to begin the bottom of the seventh and struck out the side in a perfect inning to maintain the one-run advantage. In the bottom of the eighth, Simpson fanned two more Nuts hitters in a 1-2-3 frame as San Jose continued to lead by a 4-3 margin. The Giants then pushed across a key insurance run in the top of the ninth. With two outs, Miller grounded a double down the right field line. Howard then ripped a double into the right center field gap to easily score Miller for a 5-3 cushion. In the bottom of the ninth, Halstead yielded a leadoff single to Gianfranco Wawoe, but calmly retired the next three hitters on two pop outs and a groundout to seal the victory. Warren (1-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
