Purpose - What s the point? Closing the Gap! England does not provide enough athletes for senior international teams. Not many real options are for swimmers Swimmers below World Class the options are extremely limited. We are losing athletes to the US collegiate system Ultimately we must be losing swimmers from the sport A natural time for swimmers to look for new opportunities Help transition more swimmers into International senior swimmers

Swim England would like Flexible study programmes Excellent training provision for both pool and non-pool based training Support services to include Strength and conditioning, Sports Science, psychology, lifestyle and physiotherapy. Culture Athlete centred, Coach led and Programme supported Wave power and Swim Mark accredited Coaching philosophies based around British Swimming 5 pillars Delivering Results Setting Direction Staying Connected Engaging People Credibility Swim England values of Quality, Purpose, Togetherness, Fun Sport England Talent guidelines Training to win and enjoying the experience are not mutually exclusive

Principles Self manage, collective support Elephant in room (Recruitment) How would you want recruitment managed?

Timelines and process British Swimming's National Centres Application process BS Website Discussions MUST happen between home coach / Swimmer / Parent / School about options Engage with Performance centres at Winter and Summer Meets Look at OTHER University / Swimming club partnerships in the UK (Wales & Scotland as well) 2019 University deadlines - UCAS website

March (the year before University entry) - start planning to explore Identify the area they want to study and then identify Uni they may want to visit Book onto open days and/or contact the relevant Uni contacts to let them know you want to visit. Go to a few to compare and contrast. Remember to investigate: the course and the options (full time/part time/distance learning/placement years) the University location (campus/town/city; size; other things you may want to do whilst there) the performance swim programme offer including pool/hours/coaches/programme/ SSSM support/performance and/or scholarship support

Between May (Year prior to entry) & January (year of entry) UCAS applications for most courses need to be submitted. Applicants can select up to 5. Select 2 as your FIRM and INSURANCE choices by early May. Finish your FE studies. Get results. Communicate these to your FIRM choice even if they are not what you had worked and hoped for. REMEMBER IT NEEDS TO BE RIGHT FOR YOU!
