So we need some help in that area. It is not a major task. The tickets are provided by the club and, for the most part, are already separated into sets of seven. All the 50/50 volunteers have to due is collect the money, issue the tickets to the purchaser, separate all of the ticket stubs and place them in the jug. The Board would appreciate it and it would be nice if two or three members would step up to handle the 50/50 during meetings. Sign-in: We are the guests of the Elks Lodge and its officers and members. It has been determined that all guests should sign-in when attending meetings. This serves two purposes: 1) it provides the Elks with a record of involvement with other local organization; and, 2) it gives the club an idea of what levels of attendance we are experiencing. This is also a simple task. A roster of members is provided and all that needs to be done is ensure each member initials the sign in sheet and that guests sign the sign-in sheet It is your club. You get out of it what you put into it. See Meeting Notes on page 3 Are you in business? Your card can appear here. Call Jim Robinson for Picking Times

Doug reported while the weather didn t help much, Spanish trout, snook and tarpon are around. John Carman said the fish are around but you had to work hard to catch any. Fred Fiedler hooked up a nice tarpon that jumped twice and then broke his 15# line; Fred said it was a great thrill. Alan Levin and Jim Valley were out during the small craft warnings and caught trout at the reef. Steve Shrago reported catching a couple of redfish, a trout and had a hook up of a tarpon by the south skyway pier. He also had a nice cobia he brought to within six inches of his canoe. Minutes and Financial Report: The minutes from the April meeting and the Financial Report for May were approved by the membership. Freedom Boat Club Fishing Education Program: Capt. Matt Morrison and Capt. Raj, both members of the Freedom Boat Club, along with Terry Rickett, Greg Franczyk and Jack Banther have come up with a program that will arrange for on-hand fishing expeditions where members can learn how and where to fish for the various species in Tampa Bay. June 2015 Hook, Line and Sinker Page 4 Fish Fry The second club sponsored fish fry was well attended with 62 members and guests participating. The fish caught by club members over the past several months, included porgies, sea bass, at least one red snapper, were nicely prepared by the staff of the Elks Lodge. Beth, the cook in the kitchen, said, I am not a big fish eater, but your fish is the best I have ever had. Maybe we should be getting our fish for the Elks Fish Dinners from you. This event included several spouses who had not been to one of our dinners in the past. A number of people remarked that they usually don t care for fish but found our fare quite appetizing. A great deal of thanks goes to Jack Banther for gathering the responses from those who were attending and to Tom Deptula for coordinating with the Elks staff to put the dinner together. We are going to have to have a few more fishing trips to replenish our stocks before we can have another fish fry. Of course we had a raffle. Mike Schiro and Buddy Prosser each won a nice wall decoration and Marion Pfister won the 50/50 at the tune of $105. Someone sneaked in the Chia pet from the White elephant event in December; Dan Hyman won that surprise after Fred Fiedler refused it. The chia pet will go nicely with the huge Styrofoam cooler he won at the last meeting. See photos on page 6 Fresh Fish Most people who say they don t like fish probably never had any that was truly fresh. There are a couple of ways of keeping your catch fresh. Put your fish on ice as soon as you catch them. Completely clean your filets. Often at the dock we might hurriedly cut out our filets and sometimes leave a little skin, scales or a bone or two. It is suggested that you re-clean your filets once you get home or as soon as possible. Use your finger and rub along the darker part of, and the lower portion of, the widest part of the filet to detect bones. After your careful cleaning, put your filets in a zip lock bag, a size appropriate to the amount of filets you have, fill the zip lock bag with cold fresh water, close the bag almost completely, squeeze out any remaining air to prevent freezer burn, close the bag of filets and place in the freezer until needed. It is appreciated by club if more of our members store fish for the fish fry until needed. If you catch certain fish, such as mackerel, blue fish or shark, that you plan to eat, it is recommended that you bleed them and put them on ice as soon as they are caught. Bleeding a fish can be done buy making a cut on the lower body near the tail. Some folks like to soak these species in milk before cooking.
