Corvettes and Mini Golf Aloha Falls, 2016

From the Office of the President August 2016 Summer is in full swing. July was a great month. Our club participated in the Niles 4 th of July Parade. At the end of July we had our Mini Golf outing and Hawaiian Shirt contest at Aloha Falls in Libertyville. The rain held off until we were finished. (See the picture on the inside cover.) Dan Maroney lead a group of Corvettes to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI for the Corvette Races this past weekend and it looks like it was fun. Hopefully the weather will be great this month too. We have the Club picnic at the Fagerberg Farm on Saturday, August 13 th. There will be a cook-out and pot luck. See the list of club events on the calendar in this issue. Northern Rays Corvette Club General Membership Meeting Date: Tuesday July 12, 2016 By Cynthia Panther Our meeting was held at Pops Pizza on Nerge Rd. Pizza was served and the meeting began at 7:44 p.m. President- Pat Lopardo Welcome all!!! Saturday July 16 th Sunrise Chevrolet has their car show. Itasca Fest has their car show July 10 th. Welcome guests Jim Spellergren, with his 2001 Vette, and Rich Kusak, with his 2006 Vette. Harry Ehorn is selling Corvette memorabilia. The Autocross is in Champaign at Park Land College. The 4 th of July Parade had a great turnout with 17 cars. Vice President-Sue Lopardo July 24 th mini golf at Aloha Falls in Libertyville. August 13 th is club picnic, and please sign up. Treasurer and Competition Report Linda Fairlamb The Tire Rack event is no longer on August 20 and 21 st. It is now October 8 and 9. Pat and Sue Lopardo receive their patch for 200 points. Membership and Public Relations Report Dan Maroney Road America is August 7 th in Elkhart, WI. Please be at the Lake Forest Oasis at 7am sharp. Order your tickets on line and save $25. Violet Smith joined our club, and she owns a yoga club. Sergeant at Arms Report Ed Wodniakowski and Ed Claahsen There are 2 Corvette in the lot. Governors Reports-Vern Jr. Fagerberg Rockford Speedway canceled, Larry Higgins had died. Picnic info will be passed out at next meeting. Raffles were coordinated by Tim Bruin and Ed Frost. Ticket prices: 50/50 is $1 each or 6 or $5. General is $4 each or 3 for $10. Special thanks to everyone who donated Prizes! Thank You! 3) Cupid s Ball 2016 Enjoyed this fundraiser (Dinner and Dance) with our Northern Rays family and many of our friends. We had two full tables at this year s event. Thank You for your interest and participation. 4) K1 Go-Carts on March 19 th. Thanks to our Govenor Vern for coordinating this fun event. There were 14 Drivers and several hearty souls came out to cheer the NRL teams on. Jerry led the 50/50 and General Raffle ticket sales. In addition to all the money raised through Raffle ticket sales and donations. Together we raised $600 for the children at Ronald McDonald House. Excellent Event!!!

2016 Planning / Events Calendar Northern Rays Ltd. 5) Is it Spring Yet! Felt like is it still Winter? with the crazy drop in temps, but we had a warm and wonderful Dinner at Ki s even enjoyed a little dancing too! There were 12 members and friends in attendance. Thanks to Dan for coordinating everything! 6) Food Drive Our April Food Drive brought in 87 pounds of food and products. Plus a very generous monetary donation. Definitely the food and supplies are appreciated right there for distribution the day we make the donation. Monetary donations as always appreciated The Food Bank s buying power is great everyone $1 brings in $8 in food. Thank you all! 7) NRL Co-Sponsored Rallye with Badger State Vettes. Beautiful Day! There were more than 25 beautiful Corvettes in the Rallye. Their Drivers and Navigators all ready to Win! It was a fun day. Ed and Sue participated in the Rallye, their first ever. Even the little Luke enjoyed it! 8) Corvette s and Coffee on June 9 th was coordinated by Dan Maroney along with Kevin and Emily Kasperski great teamwork in support of St Jude s. Thanks for ordering in the great weather too! 9) Foodie 5K to support Northern Illinois Food Bank. The track at Chicago Speedway was a perfect location. Nice job by the Food Bank on organization and Sponsorship. We even walked away with a commemorative t-shirt. 10) Niles 4 th of July Parade. Thank You! Ken, Linda and Ski for arranging such a wonderful day for us even the weather cooperated! There were 17 Beautiful Corvettes on Parade and the fans were very happy to see us! Ski and Linda did a great job on the after-parade cookout. Very fun and yet relaxing day. 11) Aloha Falls Caravan and Mini Golf (July 24 th ). I don t think we could have picked a hotter day but everyone (all 18 of us) was a trooper and we had fun in the little party room and enjoyed 18 holes of mini golf! Plus we raised more than $150 for our NRL Charity Fund! August Drink of the Month By: Pat Lopardo Tequila Sunrise Ingredients: 1 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger tequila 1/2 (1.5 fluid ounce) jigger grenadine syrup 3/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice Ice cubes 1 slice orange, for garnish 1 maraschino cherry for garnish Stir or shake together tequila and orange juice. Fill a chilled 12 ounce glass with ice cubes; pour in orange juice mixture. Slowly pour in the grenadine, and allow it to settle to the bottom of the glass. Garnish with a slice of orange, and a maraschino cherry Enjoy!
