Visiting Team Guide Dear Visiting Team, We are pleased to welcome you to DeKalb, Illinois, home of Northern Illinois University and Huskie Stadium. We look forward to hosting your institution s participating athletes, coaches, official representatives, and spectators on our campus during the upcoming football season. NIU is committed to a high standard of athletic excellence and we support good sportsmanship embracing the Huskies traditions for all home contests. In an effort to assist you with the planning of your upcoming trip to DeKalb and to make your stay more enjoyable, please use this Visiting Team Guide as a valuable resource. Inside the guide you will find helpful information regarding game day procedures, travel amenities, and contact information for appropriate personnel. If you require special needs that have not been addressed within the guide, please give us a call a few weeks in advance so we can assist you. visiting team info Coaches Booth The visiting team coaches booth is located at the South end of the Press Box Level of Huskie Stadium. The booth can accommodate 6-8 coaches. The elevator to the press box is located in the middle of the west side of Huskie Stadium, and can only be accessed by exiting the interior of the stadium. The elevator will be held with 2:00 minutes remaining in the half and at the end of the game for coaches. Coaches Communication Systems Huskie Stadium has eight dry-pair telephone lines available for your team s use. In addition, two ring down telephones are available. All headphone communication questions should be directed to Mike Verbic at 815-753-6684. Credentials and Parking Passes Credentials will be distributed by Donna Turner, Associate Athletics Director Athletics Communications (donnaturner@niu.edu) approximately 2 weeks before the game. The visiting team will receive the following credentials and parking passes: Credentials 60 Bench 10 All-Access (Athletic Administration, president, etc.) 8 Coaches Booth (Media) 4 Coaches Video (Media) Parking Passes 3 Lot 32 Parking Passes (for equipment truck, vans, and/or vehicles accompanying team escort) Will park in Lot 32 adjacent to Huskie Stadium 4 Lot 33 Parking Passes (Athletics Administration, president, etc.) Please see parking map on page 11. All additional requests for media credentials (radio, media relations, other institutional personnel) also should be submitted to donnaturner@niu.edu. Credentials must be displayed by all personnel other than uniformed players, cheerleaders, mascot, and band members. visiting team info Equipment Truck Parking The equipment truck can be parked on the South end of the Huskie Stadium in close proximity to the locker room. Game day parking is located in a parking lot directly across the street from Huskie Stadium. The equipment truck must be moved to the designated parking area 2 hours prior to game time, and can return to begin loading at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Any accompanying vehicles must park in the designated parking lot at all times. Parking passes will be distributed and must be displayed. Game Day Police Escort The NIU Police Department will provide a police escort for the team on game day. The escort will meet the team at the Tollway exit at Annie Glidden Road at the time indicated on the enclosed Football Team Information Form (page 9). Please feel free to contact NIU Police Dispatch at 815-753-1212 to confirm details and special requests. Locker Room Set Up/Access The locker room is generally open the day prior to the game dependent on home soccer and other events. One large locker room is provided for coaches and athletes. On game day, the locker room will be supplied with towels, ice, game programs, and soft drinks (2 cases of bottled water and 5 cases of Gatorade). Pre-Game Meeting A pre-game meeting will be held 1 hour and 45 minutes prior to kick off in the Official s Locker Room - Huskie Stadium Room #107. Attendees will include home game management, team liaisons from each institution, the game referee or his designee, public safety/security officials, clock operators, replay official and the TV liaison. The agenda will include general game management and emergency procedures. Post Game Meals Please see the list of NIU preferred vendors on pages 14-15. Tables will be provided for serving post game meals upon request. Post Game Press Conference The post game press conference is held in the academic suite of the Yordon Center at the North end of Huskie Stadium. NIU Game Management staff will drive coaches and players to the press conference, via golf cart. 6

visiting team info Visiting Team Radio The visiting team radio booth is located on the Press Box level of Huskie Stadium at the North end. A television and stat monitor are provided. Ticket Distribution Visiting team tickets are located in Section A of Huskie Stadium. Visiting team tickets are distributed outside Gate 1 of Huskie Stadium. A table and chair will be provided. Please refer to the stadium map on page 8. Video/Film Information Camera positions are located behind the scoreboard and on the roof at the 50 yard line. All crews must adhere and comply with NIU safety guidelines. A member of our Media Services Department will be available for the video crews to make sure they understand our safety guidelines and positions for filming. Visiting Athletic Director Suite The Visiting Athletic Director s suite is located on the Press Level (Level 3) of the Huskie Stadium Press Box. The enclosed suite can accommodate 4-6 guests, and is located at the north end of the Press Level. Accommodations for this suite can be made through Lisa Stocksdale, Senior Administrative Assistant, at 815-753-9473 or lstocksdale@niu.edu prior to arrival. Visiting Team Bus Parking The NIU Police escort will direct the buses to park on the south end of Huskie Stadium directly outside of the visiting team locker room along Stadium Drive South. There is room to park 4 buses. The buses will drop off and then be directed to park in the NIU Transportation Lot. NIU Police will escort the buses back to Stadium Drive South at the start of the 4th quarter. 7

athletic training information Visiting Athletic Training Room The athletic training room is located in the visiting locker room on the southwest corner of the stadium. Inside we will provide you with the following: (4) taping tables, (1) treatment table, (2) 10 gallon coolers of water, hydro collator/covers, injury ice, and access to large ice machine. Visiting Sideline The NIU Athletic Training Staff will provide one host athletic trainer and at least one student who will have radio access to the athletic training staff and physicians should you need access to the x-ray unit or further medical help. We will provide the following: (1) taping table, (1) treatment table, large Gatorade sideline cart, (4) 10 gallon coolers, access to water, spine board, and an AED. Emergency Medical Operations A full digital x-ray unit and c-arm fluoroscopy unit is located in the Yordon Center at the north end of the stadium. EMS will be on site in the southeast corner of the stadium. Our staff will introduce ourselves during the pre-game meeting on your sideline and discuss EAP. The Mid-American Conference will provide an Independent Medical Observer (IMO) for both teams unless you opt out. Should you opt-out of the IMO, we have a space allocated for your medical spotter in our operations booth. Our event staff will escort your spotter to the booth following the 100-min meeting. We will also have an Independent Neurologist that is not affiliated with NIU Athletics, who you may request for any head trauma cases. GAME MANAGEMENT INTERRUPTED GAME PROCEDURES The following is from the MAC severe weather policy. The information below will be posted throughout the locker room on game day. If there are any questions, please contact Matt Gonzalez, NIU Game Management prior to your visit. DELAYED GAME DUE TO LIGHTNING: (Prior to kickoff) When lightning is detected within eight (8) miles of the competition site, the start of the competition shall be immediately delayed by NIU Game Management, with both teams returning to their locker rooms. The competition may be resumed after 30 minutes of no detected lightning strikes within an eight mile radius of the competition site. Following this 30 minute delay, there may be a 10 minute warm-up period. In addition, the band will be given 10 minutes following the teams warm-up period for pre-game activities and the National Anthem unless TV dictates otherwise. 30:00 minute time starts in the press box after the last detected lightning strike. After 30:00 minutes of no detected strikes, the game clock will be set to 10:00 minutes and started. CLOCK EVENT *10:00 Teams will be directed to take the field for warm-up 0:00 Teams return to locker rooms *10:00 Clock is reset to 10 minutes: Marching Band and National Anthem 0:00 Teams re-take field for kickoff *Please note: If at all possible, NIU Game Management will attempt to kick off on time provided that a minimum of 10 minutes be given for team warm-ups and exactly 10 minutes for the band. SUSPENDED GAME DUE TO LIGHTNING: (After the game has officially started) When lightning is detected within eight (8) miles of the competition site, the competition shall be immediately suspended by the referee, in consultation with NIU Game Management. Both teams will return to their locker rooms. The competition may be resumed after 30 minutes of no detected lightning strikes within an eight mile radius of the site. 30:00 minute time starts in the press box after the last detected lightning strike. After 30:00 minutes of no detected strikes, the game clock will be set to 10:00 minutes and started. DIRECTIONS DRIVING INFO Use either Interstate 90 when driving from the East or West; Interstate 39 when driving from the North or South. Both are toll roads that require exact change or IPass/EZ Pass. I-88, I-90, and I-294 are toll roads. Annie Glidden Road exit requires a $2.10 exact change only cash toll or IPass/EZ Pass are accepted. Peace Road exit requires a $1.50 exact change only cash toll or IPass/EZ Pass.
