NE VA DA DEPARTMENT OF WILDL IFE 2013 SPRING WILD TURKEY Application Instructions and Season Regulations A TAG IS REQUIRED TO HUNT WILD TURKEY IN NEVADA 2013 Spring Turkey dates and limits are set by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners in CR 12-06. Hunting Hours and Limits: Spring wild turkey hunting hours are one half hour before sunrise to 4 p.m. daily. Limit: 1 Bearded Wild Turkey by tag only. WILD TURKEY APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE NOTE: As with other game species, applicants are advised that a significant portion of the turkey population occurs on PRIVATE LANDS and permission must be secured from the landowner before hunting on private lands. NDOW advises that permission be obtained prior to applying for a tag. IMPORTANT: Hunters must have a valid hunting license for March 1, 2012 - February 28, 2013 to apply, or they may purchase the 2013-14 license at the time of application online. Successful tagholders must have a valid license for March 1, 2013 - February 28, 2014 while hunting. Applicant Eligibility Unless hunting privileges are limited or revoked, hunters may apply once during each draw period for one type of hunt (e.g., Hunt 0131 or Hunt 0135) for wild turkey. Applicants cannot apply for more than one type of hunt, but can apply for up to five hunter choice numbers within any one hunt. Hunters may only receive one turkey tag per calendar year. An application to obtain a tag may be submitted by a person under 12 a s long as they will attain the age of 12 before the opening date of each season for which they will be applying. Application Instructions for Residents and Nonresidents Draw applications for Hunt 0131, 0132 and 0138 must be submitted online through the Internet at www.huntnevada. com. Applications will be accepted until 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013. Hand-delivered applications will not be accepted. Note: Internet applications are not available for the hunts in 0135 and 0137. See season tables for the hunts in 0135 and 0137. METHOD OF PAYMENT Tag Fees: Payable to NDOW. A guaranteed check, cashier s check, or money order is best. No out-of-state personal checks will be accepted. A $25 fee will be charged for any personal checks returned by the bank. If a check is returned, an applicant is ineligible until the outstanding fees have been satisfied. Resident Fees: Tag fee $20, nonrefundable fees $13 ($10 application fee, $3 predator management fee), hunting license fee $33, or combo hunting and fishing license $54. LAWS AND REGULATIONS The following are only summaries of Nevada wildlife law. Consult the Nevada Hunt Book for more information. Complete text of Nevada wildlife law is located in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code which are available from NDOW regional offices and on the agency website at: www.ndow.org. License and Tag Requirements A tag is required to hunt wild turkey. A person, while hunting wild turkey, shall have in his possession: (a) A valid hunting license; and (b) A valid tag to hunt wild turkey issued to him... Tag & Validation Requirements - NAC 502.378 After killing a wild turkey and taking it into his possession, the hunter shall immediately punch the tag, month and day, and attach it to the turkey s body. Use Of Tag - NAC 502.385 Each hunter must carry his/her own tag while hunting. It is unlawful for any person to use or possess a tag issued to any other person or to transfer or give a tag issued to him to any other person. It is unlawful for a person to use any tag in a management area or unit for which it is not intended or to use a tag at any time other than at the time intended. After it has been issued, a tag may not be exchanged or a refund made except in accordance with the policies and regulations of the Wildlife Commission. Legal Weapons and Ammunition for Hunting Wild Turkey - NAC 503.187 No weapon other than a (a) shotgun which is no larger than 10 gauge nor smaller than 20 gauge and uses a shot size no larger than a number 2 pellet; or (b) longbow and arrow, may be used to hunt wild turkey. Shot used to hunt wild turkey on a wildlife management area must be (a) nontoxic shot; and (b) not larger than standard-size T. Nontoxic shot means any shot that has been approved by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service pursuant to 50 C.F.R. 20.134. Loaded Rifle/Shotgun in or on Vehicle Prohibited - NRS 503.165 It is unlawful to carry a loaded rifle or loaded shotgun in or on any vehicle standing on or driven along any public highway or any other way open to the public. A rifle or shotgun is considered loaded when there is an unexpended (live) cartridge or shell in the firing chamber. The provisions of this section do not apply to paraplegics, persons with one or both legs amputated or who have suffered a paralysis of one or both legs which severely impedes walking, or peace officers and members of the armed forces of this state or the United States while on duty or going to or returning from duty. Discharging Firearm From, Over Road Unlawful - NRS 503.175...a person who discharges a firearm from, upon, over or across any federal highway, state highway as designated in NRS 408.285, or main or general county road as designated in NRS 403.170, is guilty of a misdemeanor. Wildlife Management Area Regulations (in part) Restrictions on use of firearms - NAC 504.135 The discharging of a rifle or pistol is prohibited on the following Wildlife Management Areas: Overton in Clark County; Mason Valley in Lyon County... The use of shotguns capable of holding more than three shells is prohibited on all wildlife management areas owned or managed by this state unless the shotgun is plugged with a one-piece filler, incapable of removal without disassembling the gun, so that the total capacity of the shotgun does not exceed three shells. The use or possession of shells for a shotgun containing shot that is toxic or larger than standard-size T is prohibited on the following wildlife management areas: Overton in Clark County; Mason Valley in Lyon County... The use or possession of shotgun rounds with sabots that contain other than rifled slugs of conventional design is prohibited on all wildlife management areas owned or managed by this state. Manner of Hunting - NRS 503.150 It is unlawful to hunt any game bird or mammal with any gun capable of firing more than one round with one continuous pull of the trigger, or with any full steel, full steel core, full metal jacket, tracer or incendiary bullet or shell, or any shotgun larger than number 10 gauge.
