It is road construction season. For those who drive around Milwaukee County you know exactly what I am talking about, parking lots in the middle of 894, frustrating drivers, certain fingers being using as communication. Well I am happy to report, our concrete crew has finished their cement project on time and on budget. There are a couple of things left to finish up but the major portion is complete. Thanks to everyone that gave a helping hand on the concrete crew! Please don t drive on any of the new concrete until June so it gives plenty of time to cure. Thanks! While that is going on the Launch Crew has been busy with boats, the harbor is filling up and I see a lot of smiling faces around the Club. Bryan Gahan is looking to have the majority wrapped up in the next week. This Crew is extremely efficient, safe, and greatly appreciated thanks to all involved with the Launch. The May Brunch was a great success. Tom and Meg Ciurlik and their crew served a bunch for brunch. Unfortunately, I missed the event but all reports I received were favorable! Speaking of Events Cheryl Rybka is looking for members for setting up events over the rest of the year. If you would like to sponsor an event get a hold with Cheryl. Don t forget it works toward your hours. Events will be even better with the new tables and chairs in the Hall. We recently added the chairs through generous donations from Mary Jo Haag, Karen Kilman, Bill Wheatley, and an anonymous donor. It truly finishes off the Hall. Remember chairs are NOT to be placed on the tables. As boating season kicks off, make sure your boat and yourself are ready to go. Our lake is beautiful, but it also can be dangerous and can get there quickly. A quick check on the weather, life vests, radio, and emergency equipment can make the difference in an enjoyable afternoon and a life threatening afternoon. Mary Jo and I are ready for the boating season and looking forward to spending it with our friends and family at the South Milwaukee Yacht Club. Come on down and enjoy your Club. Safe Travels! Membership Update Doug Wandler Dawn Finger and Scott Dorgay Shawn and Ron Zoltak Ken Mitsche Keith Randolph If you haven t heard, SMYCs harbor is officially full. Thanks to the many in-house referrals as well as some new marketing venues, SMYC is now home to many new faces. A waiting list is now being assembled. Prospective new members who join can still make use of the harbor if their boat is trailerable and every once-in-a-while use a slip when another member leaves for the day or weekend. I d like to remind everyone that if they do plan on leaving the harbor for more than 24 hours, they must officially check out and give a return date in the Log Book at the bar in the Club. If you forget and are already on your journey, call the Club and ask the bartender to enter the information. *** Keith & Zayda Randolph will be bringing their Baja this summer. They were previously Associate members and have now joined as Regular members on 4/12. Keith owns Boosters bar in South Milwaukee and also has his own electronics business. ** * Shawn Zoltak and his father, Ron Zoltak, also joined on 4/12. Shawn works with Dan Moshinski and is also an avid fisherman along with his father. Shawn joined as a Regular member and Ron as an Associate and will be keeping the boat next to Jon & Mary Jo on the south wall. *** Doug and Stephanie Wandler joined that same night on 4/12 after purchasing Mike (Fish) Schell s boat. Doug is a native of South Milwaukee and will be keeping the boat in Fish s pier on the east wall. *** Ken Mitsche is the first official new member on SMYCs waiting list. He owns Kennys Amusements (amusement machines) and is in the process of purchasing a 24 Formula. He will be keeping the boat at the Club on the trailer and hopes to make use of our face dock and occasional vacant slips this summer. *** Scott Dorgay and Dawn Finger joined as associate members at the end of April and have been down at the Club numerous times at various events including a failed Air Show watch on Finally Ahead because of fog, but still managed to have some fun. Now that the harbor is full, I d like to challenge our membership to think of different ways to advertise or get the word out about our Associate Memberships available. If you think you have a good idea, please let me know. As always, if you have any questions about your SMYC membership or have a referral, please contact me at SMYCMembership@gmail.com with the subject heading SMYC Inquiry or at 414.418.5971. If I can t help you out or don t know the answer, I will point you in the right direction. -KiKi Kilman
