F1346). The cover comes with a latching device to prevent unwanted entry by a small child. The reason for the A.S.T.M. F1346 safety standard is to make certain that the cover can prevent drowning, particularly of small children who may try to climb in and around the cover. When installed outdoors, provision is also made to remove rainwater that may accumulate on the surface of the cover that could also be a drowning hazard. Drowning has become the second leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of five in the United States. In five states, drowning in swimming pools and spas is the leading cause of death for children under the age of five. The cover meets the A.S.T.M. F1346 standards only if the installer uses all the materials provided by the manufacturer in the manner prescribed. Particular attention must be paid in following the manufacturer's instructions for the installation of the latching device to prevent unwanted entry by a small child. In addition, all outside installations must employ a cover pump to automatically remove rainwater from the surface of the cover. Pools of rainwater that may accumulate on top of the cover are also a drowning hazard that must be addressed in order to meet the A.S.T.M. criteria. Planning Considerations The roller mechanism will be mounted directly to the skirting of you Swim Spa; mounting blocks have been pre-installed for this purpose. A minimum clearance of 18 is required, from the Spa skirting to the nearest obstruction, to allow the cover to be easily opened. There should be access at the opposite end of the Swim Spa as well to allow the cover to be easily closed. The cover system can be installed if the above conditions cannot be met, but the installation will be more complicated. Call Customer Service for more details (800-910-2714).
Page 2 of 6 Leading Edge Cover Track Mounting Block Roller Mechanism Cover Drum Installation Instructions 1) Begin by assembling the cover roller mechanism (see diagram on page 4). If not done so already, start to thread the lag bolts into the cover mounting blocks. Attach one of the roller mechanisms to the mounting blocks and tighten down the lag bolts. Make sure that the roller handle is positioned so that it will be accessible. Roller Mechanism Mounting Block

Next slide the other roller mechanism onto the PVC pipe and position the mechanism onto the mounting block and tighten down these lag bolts. Use the provided self-drilling screws to attach the drum to the hub of the roller mechanism. You should use a minimum of 3 screws per side. 3) Remove the cover fabric from its packaging and unfold the cover. Position the fabric so that the labels of the fabric are facing up. There is a beaded edge on the two sides and the front of the fabric. 4) The cover tracks will come already attached to your Swim Spa. There is an end cap at the end of each track opposite the roller. Remove the end cap from the track. 5) Slide the beaded edge of the fabric into the track and pull the cover all the way across the Swim Spa. Use the provided self-drilling screws to attach the fabric to the cover drum. Make sure that when attaching the fabric to the drum, the beaded edge is parallel to the track. The fabric will be wider than the PVC is long. Fold any excess fabric over onto itself and attach the fold to the drum with a self-drilling screw. Do not pull the fabric entirely into the track; leave a few inches of fabric out of the track at the end opposite the roller. 6) Slide the leading edge on to the bead at the front of the cover. Despite the way it is stitched, the front bead does not extend all of the way to the sides of the fabric. The front bead ends approximately an inch from the sides of the fabric. Pull each edge of the fabric down towards the pool. The first inch of fabric will be able to get pulled out of the leading edge s receiving slot. Eventually the front bead will prevent you from pulling any more fabric out of the leading edge. You should now have a flap of cover fabric hanging down in towards the pool at each end of the leading edge. A portion of the receiving slot on each side of the leading edge will be empty. 7) Roll the fabric up onto the roller, guiding the front end of the fabric into the track. Roll the entire fabric up onto the roller. Replace the end cap into the track at the opposite end of the roller. 8) Clip the pull ropes onto the leading edge eyebolts. Pull the cover back across the Swim Spa. 9) The locking mechanism can be installed into the Spa Skirting if desired (figure 5 on page 6). If necessary, dry silicone can be used to lubricate the track in which the cover slides. This will make the operation of the cover easier.
Outdoor Installations Page 4 of 6 For outdoor installations, place the cover pump on top of the cover. Attach a garden hose to the water outlet and leave the pump plugged into a GFCI outlet. The pump will turn itself on automatically when the level of water on the cover is sufficient to satisfy the internal float level.
