(575) 439-3802 Fax NMSU Alamogordo Tournament Rules Team Captains are responsible for the following items: 1. To pick up their team package at the announcers table and make changes to their roster 2. Are responsible to see that all players have a liability form completed before pool play begins. 3. Are responsible to see that all their team players must have a tape uniform numbers in front and back of T-shirts. 4. Must have a line up sheet (the players serving order) turn in to the scores table before the game can begin. 5. The team captains will be responsible to provide linemen and referees if their team is not playing at the time. 6. The team captains will be responsible to see that their team has taken a team picture for the newspaper. 7. The team captains will be responsible to inform their teammates that they can pick up their 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place certificates after the tournament Game Rules 1. Uniforms - All players on a team shall wear semi-like colored T-shirts. A number on front and back shall identify each player. The number shall be at least four inches high 2. Team Members - You may enter a volleyball team as a coed or women's team. The coed teams may consist of no more than two males playing at one time. The net will be set at the men's height of 8'0" unless all tournament coaches vote unanimous to have a women s net height. 3. Knee pads and the game balls need to stay at the courts for the players who are playing. 4. Warm-up balls are in the back of the gym on the rack. Please put the ball back when you are through warm-up. Do not warm up in lobby where the glass windows are located. 5. The referees will enforce official USVBA volleyball rules with leniency. Just play the ball until you hear the whistle. The tournament is for fun! 6. All workers are volunteers, please have good sportsmanship and do not argue with them. They are doing the best job possible. Only the "Team Captain" will be allowed to talk to the referee concerning a call. If the referees feel it was a close call, then he/she will call a re-play. The referees have the authority to eliminate a players or a team if un-sportsmanship is demonstrated. 2
Cont. 7. Start of the Game - There will be a toss of the coin for which team gets the serve. 8. Substitution- If you are substituting in players, they can only sub in for the same individual. 9. Bleachers - Play the ball off the blenchers or ceiling if it is on your side of the court. 10. Less than 3 players- If there are three players or less on a team then you must dink behind the ten-foot line. All of the players will be allowed to spike the ball in front of ten-foot line. 11. Blocking a serve - A player(s) may not block or attack a serve. 12. Clarification - If a player chooses to set a ball off a hard serve, the ball must be a reflex off the hands and angle upward only. The ball will not be allowed to stop and return in the same direction. 13. Game time will be move up if the courts are available. Note: High School teams will have first priority in the volleyball tournament (July 6-7, 2018) over Coed women teams. 3

Enclosed you will find the division of pools and time schedules. Times for the actual matches are found on the bracket, which is also enclosed. We will have a lunch break before the first round of the tournament begins. Four teammate from each team will be designated to referee games assigned. Pool Play is used to determine the seeding for the tournament. A. Teams - Limited to a maximum of eight (8) teams in a tournament. B. Uniforms - All players on a team shall wear like colored T-shirts. Each player shall be identified by a number on the uniform T-shirt which is not a duplicate of a teammate s number. The number shall be at least four inches high on the front of the uniform top and back. C. No on court warm-up will be allowed. Please have your team ready to play at the appointed time. The clock will be running. D. Team Members - You may enter a volleyball team as a co-ed or a women s team. The coed teams may consist of no more than two males playing at one time. The net will be set at the men s height of 8 0 unless all tournament coaches vote unanimous to have a women s net height. E. Two polls of 4 teams each. Pool play matches consist of a time limit. The timer is set to 45 minutes (usually teams can play two games within this time limit - rally scoring to 25 points with a cap of 27 points. That is, if the score is tied at 25 to 25, the first team to reach 27 points wins the game. On the last game, whoever is winning the match and ahead at the time limit is the winner for the match F. Seeding the Teams - In seeding teams into the tournament bracket, the following criteria shall be used in the following order of precedence. 1. Win-loss record of each team. (Total Matches Won) 2. Head to head competition (Total Individual Games Won) 3. Difference in points scored and points given. (Total Points Opponents Beaten) 4
