GlenOak Cheerleading is comprised of Freshman, JV, Varsity, and Competition Squads. As a GlenOak Cheerleader you are a student-athlete expected to represent GlenOak on and off the field. In addition to supporting our other athletic programs by cheering at games, GlenOak Cheerleading is involved in promoting school spirit and maintain community relations. As a GlenOak Cheerleader you will not only cheer at games but lead youth cheer camps, participate in community events, and peprallys. You are expected to follow the Eagles Cheerleading Code of Conduct & Accountability System along with the OHSSA student Athletic standards, participate in team fundraising and represent Plain Local Schools. Candidates for GlenOak Cheerleading must indicate on their application which squad(s) they want to be considered for, candidates will only be considered for the squad(s) that they mark. Once application is turned in on Thursday May 7 th changes may not be made. To participate in the tryout process candidates must have a copy of ALL of the following turned in on Thursday May 7 th NO ACCEPTIONS or they cannot participate in the rest of the tryout process. Contract Interviews Candidates are responsible for scheduling their own minute interview with the coaches, an opportunity for you to introduce yourself. No specific attire is required, please bring a list of all other activities (school or non school related) that the candidate is involved in. CLINIC & TRY OUT PROCEDURE Attire (Clinic Days & Tryouts) Solid White Shirt, or White Shirt Turned inside out, Black Shorts (Appropriate length no spandex or jean shorts) socks, tennis shoes (No flip flops, boots, bare feet, converse) No jewelry, hair pulled all the way up away from your face. Deductions will be made to score if attire is not followed. Bows are optional. During the clinic and tryout process parents and spectators are not permitted in the locker room, main gym or aux gym area of the building. Arrive minutes before start time to ensure you are prepared to begin. Deduction to score will be made for arriving late or leaving early. Tryouts will run in a flight process, you will be assigned a number on day one of clinics and try out in groups or two or three. For tryouts you will be provided a warm up time & write down the almamater and fight song. Then perform your cheer and chant for judges at station, then move to station to perform your dance, then move to station to perform jumps and tumbling. *All skills will be performed once at each station, you may ask for one redo and be assessed only on the second attempt. Once you have completed your try out you must leave the building. Your skill score will be an average of two judges at each station. Skill score is not the only deciding factor in the tryout process. *NO SPOTS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR TUMBLING DURING CLINICS OR AT TRYOUTS. Final Results will be sent be email by :pm Saturday May 9 th from GlenOakSpirit@aol.com Selections of cheerleaders will be based on the following Skill Score : o Evaluation of Cheer, Dance, Chant taught at Clinic o Motion Placement o Clinic Attendance and Dress o Interview with Coaches o Jumps (toe touch, double toe touch, pike, right hurdler, left hurdler) o Tumbling (Standing tumbling required for varsity squad no exceptions, while tumbling is not required for freshman and JV bonus points will be given) Tumbling is judged on skill,, conduction, and strength. A Spot is not provided during tumble time of clinics or during tryouts. Tumbling points are not awarded just because the skill is thrown. Tumbling does not guarantee a varsity or competition position. If you wish to view score sheets and further evaluations a meeting must be set up with Coach West & Athletic Director Scott Garcia by Monday May st.

Cheerleading Code Contract Tryout Process I the Candidate & Parent/Guardian have read and understand the tryout process and requirements. I the Candidate & Parent/Guardian understand that GlenOak Cheerleading squad members are not chosen solely based on your skill evaluation score, tumbling or total score. Skill evaluation scores as well as grades, attendance, attitude, representation, coachability, spirit, energy and showmanship are taken into consideration when placing candidates on squads. I the Candidate & Parent/Guardian understand the requirements for each squad and understand that performing tumbling does not guarantee a varsity or competition squad position. I the Candidate & Parent/Guardian understand that once tryouts are complete I can contact Coach West via email at Glenoakspirit@aol.com and request information on what I can improve on, I will not receive scores or be able to view score sheets via email, text, or call. I the Candidate & Parent/Guardian understand that to view score sheets and further evaluations I must make a meeting with Coach West & Athletic Director Scott Garcia within hours of the tryout. Uniform I the Candidate & Parent/Guardian understand that uniforms and pom poms provided by GlenOak High School are property of GlenOak High School Cheerleading and I am not to alter or destroy in any way without permission from Coach West. At the end of the -9 Cheerleading Season I am responsible to return all GlenOak High School Cheerleading uniform property on the uniform turn in date washed & dried. Attendance for Cheer Camp (June 9, August,, ) is MANDATORY, no exceptions, by trying out you are committing to your attendance. Attendance is important for learning fundamentals and important material, You will not be able to cheer the first football game if you fail to attend. You are still required to pay camp fee. Candidates must currently have a. grade point average and during the duration of the cheerleading season to cheer at games. Varsity Tumbling Policy Standing tumbling is a requirement to be on the varsity squad and remain on the varsity squad. Standing tumbling must be performed by a varsity squad member at all games and skill checks. Meaning, when standing tumbling is being perform as group all varsity members must perform the skill; timeouts, halftimes, quarter cheers, hello cheers. I the Candidate & Parent/Guardian understand that if the skill is not performed during all aspects of the game that call for standing tumbling the squad member will be moved to JV for the following game. Injury or Illness with a doctor s note is the only exception. The squad member must cheer at the next JV game and then perform the skill at warm ups of the next Varsity game to be reinstated. JV and Freshman squad members are not moved up to varsity based on tumbling and are not held to a tumbling policy.
