THE XTERMINATOR BLANKETWEED ELIMINATOR. NO GIMMICKS, NO HASSLE... NO BLANKETWEED. User guidelines and operating instructions for the XT 7000, 15000 & 27000 XTERMINATOR. IMPORTANT... READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE. THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND THE XTERMINATOR Blanketweed or string weed as it is sometimes known is the scourge of the pond owner, many different products from magnets to herbicides have been sold, some with little or no effect on the blanketweed. Some of these products in fact have a detrimental effect on other pond life. The XTERMINATOR utilises unique technology, technology that was developed by NASA for the space programme to provide clean pure safe mineralised algae free drinking water, THIS REALLY IS ROCKET SCIENCE, HOW THE XTERMINATOR WORKS The XTERMINATOR works by the method of electro mineralisation, this is the process by which safe small amounts of copper are diffused through the pond water and absorbed by the Blanketweed. Copper has always been renowned for its algae control properties, it has the unique ability to target algae but allow other pond plants to thrive. The XTERMINATOR achieves this mineralisation process by passing an accurately measured controlled harmless low voltage impulse current through a copper core (the anode), which is surrounded by a stainless steel shroud ( the cathode ) the electrical impulse charge passes between these two. As the electrical impulse travels between the anode and the cathode the copper anode begins to "dissolve" giving off a controlled measured safe diffusion of copper that is absorbed by the blanketweed, thus eliminating it from your pond. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS It is important to ensure the water quality in your pond is ideal in order that the optimum results are achieved. Very hard water and very soft water can effect the efficiency of the XTERMINATOR by altering the conductivity of the water thus effecting the copper diffusion process. The softer the water the less conductive it is, the harder the water the more conductive it becomes. Soft water can give adverse readings with the XTERMINATOR due to the peak output impulse charge being achieved and activating the "replace the copper anode warning light" BEFORE it is due to be replaced, Hard water does the opposite by being very conductive and allowing the unit to continue to a level below the recommended wear levels. CHECKING THE QUALITY OF YOUR POND WATER It is important not only for the efficiency of the XTERMINATOR but for the well being of the total pond, its plant life, fish life and efficient operation of your biological filtration units that a pond should have an ideal general hardness of approximately 8º (GH) 130ppm and a ph of at least 7.

Using the test kit provided follow the instructions enclosed carefully check your results against the colour chart to establish the quality of your pond water. If your pond water does not fall between the optimum levels we suggest that you carry out a water change over several days to re adjust your ph levels or use a proprietary adjuster available from your aquatic stockist DO NOT USE THE XTERMINATOR IN A POND CONTAINING SALT. Copper ions combine with sodium and could prove harmful to the gills of fish especially those of the carp family. A water change will eliminate this situation. INSTALLING AND OPERATING YOUR XTERMINATOR Installation of the XTERMINATOR could not be easier, after following the assembly and electrical instructions in this leaflet, float the XTERMINATOR on your pond surface and position it where there is a flow of water around your pond to evenly distribute the diffused copper solution (the return from your pump / filtration system / or waterfall is ideal). If there is a proliferation of blanketweed around one area of your pond you can float the XTERMINATOR around this particular area to maximize the copper concentration ( you can attach a piece of cord to the XTERMINATOR through the anchor link point and secure it to the side of your pool to keep it in one place THE XTERMINATOR QUICK STARTUP GUIDE Please refer to the main guide for more comprehensive instructions. 1. Check the water quality of your pond and make a note of your pond water volume. 2. After following the assembly & electrical instructions float the XTERMINATOR on your pond close to an area of water movement to ensure maximum dispersion of the copper solution throughout the pond. You can anchor the XTERMINATOR to the side of your pond by means of a cord through the anchor point. 3. Switch on and view the LED lights on top of the unit. 4. After a few seconds the GREEN LED should illuminate, the XTERMINATOR is now working. 5. The unit will switch to YELLOW LED standby mode after 24 hours. Switch the power off & on to reset the 24 hour clock. This will be required each day for the required number of days for your pond size (see the pond size / treatment level chart). Note, A plug in timer unit may be used with the XTERMINATOR which will automatically switch the unit off and on to reset the 24 hr clock automatically, ensure you do not use the XTERMINATOR longer than the required period of time. 6. After the required period of time or after the first signs of blanketweed death (whichever comes first) switch off the unit and remove it from your pond. 7. Remove as much dead and decaying vegetation as soon as possible to prevent deoxygenation in your pond. 8. In the event of the RED LED illuminating refer to the instruction manual. ASSEMBLY/ DISMANTLING AND ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION IMPORTANT. Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt concerning the wiring of this product. The XTERMINATOR is intended to be installed into a weatherproof cable connector or a weatherproof plug and socket using a 3 amp fuse. A Residual Current Device (RCD) with a

maximum tripping current of 30mA must be fitted. Local regulations concerning the installation and wiring of this product must be adhered to, check with the appropriate authority. Always disconnect from the electricity supply before cleaning or dismantling. The mains cable into the transformer and low voltage cable into the XTERMINATOR unit cannot be replaced, in the event of damage the equipment must not be used. DO NOT CONNECT THE XTERMINATOR TO THE MAINS SUPPLY BEFORE COMPLETING THE FOLLOWING ASSEMBLY. ASSEMBLY/ DISMANTLING. ( Refer to diagram) 1. Push the float #2 onto the base of the housing unit #1. 2. Install the Stainless cathode #3 into the outside groove of the unit by locating the connector pins into the slot in the stainless steel cathode, pushing down and turning clockwise, ensuring that it is securely located.

3. Install the Copper anode #4 down the centre of the Stainless cathode ensuring that the connector pins locate securely into the slot by pushing down and turning clockwise. The end cap must be located over the end of the stainless steel cathode. 4. Connect the low voltage plug into the socket on the transformer ensuring it is correctly installed. Low voltage extension cables are available from your stockist or from TOTAL POND DIRECT. 5. An anchor connection point #5 is incorporated into the float to secure the XTERMINATOR to the pool side by means of a piece of cord (not supplied). 6. When dismantling the unit for cleaning maintenance or replacing parts, reverse the above assembly procedures. LED LIGHTS INDICATOR SYSTEM. (Ensure the unit is unplugged before any cleaning or maintenance) The XTERMINATOR has been designed to make operation a simplicity. The fully sealed electronics will give years of trouble free operation. Float the XTERMINATOR on you pond and switch on, On the XTERMINATOR are 3 coloured led lights, the meaning of these are as follows: CONTINUOUS GREEN LED : this indicates the unit is working correctly (may take 30 seconds or so). CONTINUOUS YELLOW LED : As a safety feature the unit is designed to switch off automatically after 24 hours operation, the yellow LED will illuminate to indicate the unit has entered standby mode. RED FLASHING LED : this indicates the copper anode may need replacing or is contaminated by scale or debris, or there is no water flow around the unit. Ensure the unit is in water or replace / clean the copper anode as explained in the maintenance section of this leaflet. RED CONTINUOUS LED : Check that nothing is contaminating the copper anode and stainless cathode to cause a short circuit. Clean both parts. If your pond water is not the correct quality as described earlier under the "Checking the quality of your pond water section" you could experience spurious false readings, these might include RED CONTINUOUS LED : shows as soon as the unit is put in the water, this could indicate high conductive water causing the unit to think it is short circuited. Refer to the correct section to eliminate this problem. If you operate the unit in this condition the unit will be unable to detect the COPPER ANODE wear limit and could cause DAMAGE to the unit. RED & GREEN ALTERNATING LED : this condition can occur in low conductive water with a new copper anode. This may continue for a few hours until tire anode is "conditioned" then normal operation (Green LED) will resume.

NOTE. If the XTERMINATOR is removed from the water whilst switched on or the current flow is interrupted the RED FLASHING LED will operate, the unit self checks itself every 1 minute and will resume normal operation indicated by the GREEN LED, after a short period of time once it is returned to the water GETTING THE BEST FROM YOUR XTERMINATOR The optimum level of copper concentration in your garden pond is 0.3ppm, at this level fish life, wildlife and plant life are totally unaffected but the blanketweed will be effectively eliminated and for the first time you can enjoy a completely blanketweed free pond. To enable the copper concentration to reach the required level refer to the pond size / treatment level chart for your size of pond. Once you have established the appropriate time level simply plug in the XTERMINATOR for the required number of hours (as a safety feature the unit automatically switches to standby mode after 24 hrs, indicated by the YELLOW LED), unplugging and re plugging will reset for a further 24 hrs, you will need to do this each day for the required number of days to suit your pond. When the time period for your pool has elapsed or the first signs of blanketweed kill has begun (the blanketweed turning white and sliding to the bottom of the pool or even floating) or whichever is the soonest, the XTERMINATOR should be switched off, If there are any signs of re growth within 3 weeks of the initial installation it is recommended that the XTERMINATOR is switched on for HALF the recommended time for your pool size due to the fact that a level of copper will remain in the pond water from the initial installation. This should be sufficient to remove this re growth. It is not advisable to use the XTERMINATOR longer than the recommended time period for your pond. OPTIMISING THE PERFORMANCE & MAINTAINING YOUR XTERMINATOR (Unplug the unit before carrying out any maintenance, clean the unit away from the pond side.) Whilst the unit is operating the copper anode will begin to dissolve and wear away. The FLASHING RED LED will indicate : 1. There is possible contamination on the copper anode or stainless cathode preventing the electrical impulse to pass efficiently between them. It is recommended that the copper anode and stainless cathode are removed from the unit and cleaned with a brush (a tooth brush is ideal) or for stubborn calcium deposits it should be soaked in a suitable de scaling solution, (available from your stockist or direct from Total Pond Direct). The top contact points of both the copper anode and stainless cathode may also be cleaned with wire wool to ensure a good electrical contact. 2. The maximum copper anode wear has been achieved and requires replacing. Spare copper anodes for all size units are available from your XTERMINATOR stockist (in the event of difficulty from Total Pond Direct.) Ensure you choose the correct copper anode for your unit (Replace with the same colour). Due to the deterioration of the copper anode it is essential that the anode is replaced regularly (at least once a year) to ensure the XTERMINATOR functions efficiently. Failure to replace the copper anode could result in malfunctions of the unit.

PRECAUTIONS READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE. CHECK THE WATER QUALITY BEFORE USE. DO NOT use any other treatments / chemicals whilst using the XTERMINATOR for at least 10 days after switch off. DO NOT use the XTERMINATOR in water temperatures below 6ºC. The XTERMINATOR is completely safe in ponds containing fish when used as directed however copper is detrimental in ponds containing invertebrates / molluscs including snails, mussels etc. It is not unusual for your fish to exhibit strange behaviour such as flicking for a couple of days after installing the XTERMINATOR, don't worry normal conditions will prevail shortly with no ill effects. OXYGEN DEFICIENCY Remember blanketweed gives off oxygen whilst growing, the removal of this blanketweed by the XTERMINATOR will reduce the oxygen content of your pond. ENSURE ADEQUATE OXYGEN SUPPLIES. During use of the XTERMINATOR the blanketweed will start to die and decay giving off toxic gasses ENSURE you have adequate oxygen supplies in your pond at all times. The use of zeolite in your filtration system can be beneficial in the removal of harmful toxins. REMOVE all dead and decaying vegetation as soon as possible especially during warm water periods to prevent DE OXYGENATION. DO NOT use the XTERMINATOR with any ozonisation equipment. IMPORTANT... It is important that the equipment is used only in accordance with these enclosed instructions, the pond water quality is essential in ensuring efficient operation of the XTERMINATOR. T.P. SOLUTIONS accepts no responsibility for improper use of the equipment or any modification of the equipment. It is the operators responsibility to ensure that their pond, its water quality and associated equipment are suitable to maintain suitable oxygen levels and in maintaining a healthy environment. T.P.
