All four teams in the division are within a game of each other at the midpoint of the season. The Chiefs record stands at 4-4 after a 31-3 setback vs. Miami (11/6). Last week, Denver posted a 38-24 victory at Oakland (11/6) to move its record to 3-5. This is the fi rst meeting between the Chiefs and Broncos in 2011 after the two clubs split the season series a year ago. Each team won in its own stadium, as the Broncos posted a 49-29 victory in Denver (11/14/10). QB Matt Cassel threw four touchdown passes in that contest, including a pair of TDs to WR Dwayne Bowe. The Chiefs returned the favor with a 10-6 win at Arrowhead Stadium (12/5/10) in a defensive battle. The Chiefs posted a 3-1 record in the second quarter of the 2011 season, outscoring its opponents by a 82-75 margin. Kansas City has won four of its last fi ve games to move into a tie for fi rst place. The club became the fi rst team in the NFL to start the season 0-3 and then win its next four games since Pittsburgh accomplished the feat in 2000. Kansas City saw its four-game winning streak snapped last week vs. Miami. It was the fi rst time the club had won four straight games since 2004. In 2011, only six other teams have won at least four consecutive games, including Cincinnati (5), Detroit (5), Green Bay (8), New Orleans (4), Pittsburgh (4) and San Francisco (6). Dating back to 2010, Kansas City has posted a 9-3 record at Arrowhead Stadium. In those 12 contests, Kansas City has outscored its opponents by a 247-227 margin. The Chiefs defense has intercepted 13 passes to tie for third in the NFL. The 13 interceptions are the most in Chiefs history after eight games since the club had 18 in 2003. CB Brandon Flowers is tied for third in the AFC and tied for fourth in the NFL by victimizing opposing quarterbacks four times, including taking one back for a touchdown. Bowe has a teamhigh 646 receiving yards and is on pace for his second-consecutive 1,000 receiving yard season. Kansas City returns to Monday Night Football next week with a contest at New England (11/21). Denver hosts the N.Y. Jets on Thursday (11/17). 2011 CHIEFS TEAM STATS AND RANKINGS THE SERIES Kansas City holds a 55-47-0 (.535) all-time advantage over Denver in the 102 previous meetings between the two clubs (101 regular season, one postseason). The 55 Chiefs wins against the Broncos ties for the club s highest win total against any individual opponent as the Chiefs have also beaten AFC West foe Oakland 55 times. Kansas City holds a 24-14-0 (.632) margin against Denver at Arrowhead Stadium. KANSAS CITY VS. VS. GROUND GAME Sunday s game will feature two of the top rushing teams in the NFL. Kansas City is led by the trio of Jackie Battle, Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster. The Chiefs are fi fth in the AFC and 10th in the NFL, averaging 123.3 rushing yards per game. Prior to Sunday s contest, Battle was averaging 3.3 rushing yards after contact. That total ranks second in the NFL among all running backs with 40+ carries. Last week at Oakland (11/6), Denver gained 298 rushing yards, the highest total in the NFL this season. That total ranked as the fourth-highest singlegame total in Broncos history. RB Willis McGahee compiled 163 rushing yards against the Raiders while QB Tim Tebow added 117 yards on the ground. The club averaged 7.8 yards per carry. Denver currently ranks fi fth in the NFL by averaging 147.5 rushing ypg in 2011. McGahee is tied for ninth in the league with 623 rushing yards. Dating back to 2009, Kansas City is 6-2 when rushing for 150 or more yards at Arrowhead Stadium. The club has won its last six such contests. The Chiefs are 8-4 when holding their opponents to 150 or fewer rushing yards at Arrowhead since 2009. In that same timeframe, Denver is 4-1 on the road when rushing for 150+ yards, but that one loss was when the club had 161 yards at Kansas City (12/5/10). The Broncos are 2-8 on the road when allowing 150 or more rushing yards dating back to 2008. The club has lost six consecutive road contests when allowing 150 or more rushing yards. 100-YARD RUSHERS Dating back to 2009, Kansas City is 8-4 when producing a 100-yard rusher. So far in 2011, the club is 1-0 as RB Jackie Battle tallied a career-high 119 rushing yards at Indianapolis (10/9). The Chiefs have won six consecutive games with a 100-yard rusher dating back to a contest vs. Jacksonville (10/24/10). Chiefs RB Thomas Jones has recorded 34 regular season games with 100 or more rushing yards as his teams have posted a 20-14 (.588) mark in those contests. Denver is 5-3 when producing a 100-yard rusher dating back to 2009. Last week, the Broncos had a pair of 100-yard rushers in RB Willis McGahee (163) and QB Tim Tebow (117). So far in 2011, the Broncos are 2-2 when a back eclipses the 100-yard plateau. The Broncos are 1-19 when allowing an opponent to produce a 100-yard rusher dating back to 2008. The club has lost 14 consecutive games when allowing a 100-yard rusher dating back to a game at San Diego (12/28/08). Denver is 0-2 on the season when permitting a 100-yard rusher, losing contests vs. Oakland (9/12) and vs. San Diego (10/9). Kansas City has tallied more than 180 rushing yards in each of its last three home wins vs. Denver. The Chiefs have outgained the Broncos by a 621-293 margin, a remarkable 109.3 rushing yards per game. The Kansas City defense has held Denver to under 100 rushing yards in two of those three games. PUNTING COLQUITTS Sibling rivalries can be intense between brothers growing up. They are even tougher when the brothers play on opposing teams in a key AFC West matchup. P Dustin Colquitt handles the punting duties for Kansas City while P Britton Colquitt handle s the same job with Denver. The sons of former NFL P Craig Colquitt are both ranked among the leaders in net punting average. The older brother, Dustin, has a 41.35-yard net punting average to rank second in the AFC and sixth in the NFL. The only person he trails in the AFC is younger brother Britton, who has a 43.07 net punting average. That average ranks third in the NFL. Britton is third in the NFL with a 49.82 gross average while Dustin has a 46.65 gross average to rank 12th in the league. Dustin has landed 12 punts inside the 20 and Britton has stopped 11 punts inside the 20-yard line. The Colquitts are the fi rst set of brothers known in NFL history to punt against each other. They faced each other twice a year ago. THIRD DOWNS Kansas City has converted 40.4 percent of its third down attempts in 2011. That total is 12th in the NFL. A year ago after eight contests, the Chiefs were only converting 33.6 of their third-down attempts. Kansas City s 46 third-down conversions stand as the eighth most in the NFL. In third-and-one situations, the Chiefs have converted 11 of their 14 (78.6%) opportunities into fi rst downs, tying for sixth in the NFL. Kansas City is even better in third-and-six yards or more. The club is converting 35.7% (20 of 56) of its chances. On the defensive side of the ball, Kansas City is only allowing its opponents a 39.6% conversion rate on third down. That percentage ranks 18th in the NFL. The Chiefs are tied for fourth in the NFL in third-and-one situations, limiting their opponents to a 55.6% conversation rate. On third down and medium, (4-6 yards), Kansas City is seventh in the league only allowing its opponents to convert 34.6% of its attempts. THREE-GAME HOMESTAND Kansas City is concluding a three-game homestand on Sunday. The team has played contests vs. San Diego (10/31), Miami (11/6) and Denver (11/13). The Chiefs are 1-1 through the fi rst two contests. It is the club s fi rst three-game homestand since 2009 when the team hosted Denver, Buffalo and Cleveland in successive weeks. Dating back to 90, it is the sixth time the Chiefs have played three straight games at home. In fact, the only time Kansas City posted a 3-0 mark during a three-game homestand was in 90, a streak that started with a game vs. Denver (9/20/93) on Monday Night Football. In 2001, Kansas City is 2-1 overall with a positive turnover margin and 1-0 at home. In the last two meetings between the two clubs in Kansas City, they are even in the turnover column. Each team has four takeaways and four giveaways. Denver is 2-16 when negative in the turnover column dating back to 2009. The club is 1-3 in 2011, but has lost its last two games. DENVER BRONCOS NOVEMBER 13, 2011

THE LAST TIME Chiefs 10, Broncos 6 December 5, 2010 Arrowhead Stadium 67,267 DENVER.................. 0 3 0 3 6 KANSAS CITY............ 7 3 0 0 10 The Chiefs moved to 6-0 at the New Arrowhead, registering a 10-6 victory vs. Denver. The Chiefs defense limited Denver to 86 net passing yards and held the Broncos to three of 12 (25.0%) on third downs, permitting only 247 yards of total offense. The Chiefs held Denver to just six points, the fewest permitted against the Broncos since '71. KC posted 359 yards of total offense and dominated time of possession (37:14 to 22:46). Denver won the toss and elected to receive. Kansas City's defense set the tone with a key stop in its own territory when S Eric Berry broke up a deep third-down pass ending Denver's scoring threat. KC regained possession following Denver s second punt of the afternoon. Kansas City moved into Broncos territory when QB Matt Cassel connected with WR Dexter McCluster for a 19-yard pickup to Denver s 34-yard line. Three plays later Cassel hit RB Thomas Jones, who scampered 20 yards to the Broncos five-yard line. Cassel then fired a pass to the back of the end zone to TE Leonard Pope for a two-yard TD capping an 11-play, 70-yard drive giving Kansas City an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Five straight runs by RB Knowshon Moreno moved the Broncos to their own 42. On third and 12 from Denver s 40, Orton connected with WR Eric Decker for 28 yards to the Chiefs 32. A 17-yard run by Moreno put Denver at Kansas City s 15. The Chiefs defense solidified in the Red Zone, holding Denver to a 25-yard FG by K Matt Prater that cut the Chiefs lead to 7-3. The Chiefs offense took over at their own 27-yard line with 1:14 on the clock before half. In the twominute offense, Cassel connected with TE Tony Moeaki twice on the drive for 11 and then 14 yards setting up K Ryan Succop's 47-yard FG with 0:07 before half that gave KC a 10-3 lead at intermission. The Chiefs put together a 14-play drive to begin the second half. On second and goal from the two-yard line Charles punched it in, however an illegal formation penalty nullified the TD. On fourth and goal from the two-yard line Cassel was sacked by LB Mario Haggan, turning the ball over on downs. Following another Denver punt, Charles rushed 14 yards into Denver territory, but two plays later McCluster was hit by DT Justin Bannan and lost the football. The fumble was picked up by Denver s Haggan at the Broncos 32. Moreno then rumbled 22 yards to Kansas City s 27. Once again, the Chiefs defense held in the Red Zone, as KC forced a 41-yard field goal by Prater, cutting Kansas City s lead to 10-6 with 13:47 to play in the contest. After a Kansas City punt the Broncos took over at their own 34. On third and five from the KC 48 Moreno sprung free up the middle for a 24-yard gain. Two plays later Hali sacked Orton causing a fumble. Hali pounced on it, giving the Chiefs offense the ball at their own 37-yard line. Kansas City however was unable to capitalize on the turnover and was forced to punt. With 2:32 remaining the Chiefs defense held strong, forcing Denver to punt. Charles slowly chipped away at Denver s defense and was able to pick up a first down. Kansas City was forced to punt with 0:20 on the game clock. P Dustin Colquitt boomed a 59 yarder that was downed at the eight-yard line. Orton s final desperation pass intended for WR Eddie Royal fell incomplete as the game clock expired, preserving the Chiefs 10-6 win. GAME NOTES The Chiefs allowed six points, the the lowest point total the club has ever permitted at Arrowhead against the Broncos. Denver's nine completions were the fewest permitted by the Chiefs since allowing seven vs. Oakland (9/20/09). KC Pope, 2-yard pass from Cassel (Succop kick) (11-70, 6:29). DEN Prater, 25-yard field goal (12-85, 5:20). KC Succop, 47-yard field goal (8-44, 1:16). DEN Prater, 41-yard field goal (8-44, 2:42).
