TO: FROM: SUBJECT: D 10 Girls Volleyball Coaches, Athletic Directors, Principals Donald K. Wigton, D 10 Girls Volleyball Chairperson D 10 Girls Volleyball Tournament DATE: The District 10 Volleyball Tournament for girls will be held at Meadville High School on Tuesday, October 30 th, Thursday, November 1 st, and Saturday, November 3 rd for A and AA teams. The AAA team championship match will be on Wednesday, October 31 st at Seneca High School at 7PM. The tournament will start at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. In an effort to familiarize our athletes and coaches to the newly adapted state tournament format, the District 10 tournament will also have a different format. Best three of five match play, with rally scoring, will be followed throughout the entire tournament. In the A class, the tournament will consist of six teams. In the AA class, the tournament will consist of eight teams. The AAA championship will be a best three of five match, with rally scoring, between the two top AAA teams from Region 6. The sheets showing the tournament format and the playoffs are included in this information. The first place team from each region will automatically qualify for the District 10 Tournament. According to the D10 Guidelines, in mixed classification regions, the highest ranking team in the classification will qualify (if one is not region champion) provided there are two or more teams of the same classification. In the A competition, there will be two first place qualifiers and four at large representatives. In the AA classes, four first place teams will qualify from each of the regions and four at large teams will qualify. The at large teams will be chosen according to the District 10 Guidelines as written in the District 10 Handbook which is found on their website. (Section SVI, page 14). I have enclosed a listing of all schools by regions and classes. The bracketing for all three classes Is included. If there are any questions, feel free to contact me. Teams should arrive at the site before 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. There is a problem with buses coming into the complex before the Meadville buses pull out so on Tuesday all teams are asked to not arrive before 3:15 p.m. Warm ups will follow the regular best of five match play format. There will be no entry fee again this year. All teams need to submit an eligibility sheet prior to your first match. A roster should be submitted as soon as possible so they can be typed up for the program. The roster needs to be in numerical order and should include mascot, school colors, coaches names, principal and athletic director. If you think you have a chance of qualifying for the tournament, I would appreciate receiving your roster as soon as possible. There will be an admission charge of $5.00 for each of the tournament days. A scorekeeper must be provided by each team for each game you play. The home team s scorekeeper will be the official one. The visiting team must also provide a person to run the electronic scoreboard for each match and also a person for the libero tracking. Lines will be called by PIAA officials for all matches.
If you wish to recommend officials for the District Tournament, the names can be emailed to me at don.wigton@craw.org. I will also obtain recommendations from the various chapters and use both lists to choose the officials for the tournament. Coaches do have a say in the officials but I need those names by September 14, 2012. Schools who wish to be eligible for an at large position must e mail a copy of their record and a list of their region scores by games to me by Friday, October 26, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The e mail address is don.wigton@craw.org. Determinations will then be made for the at large berths. The only scores that are needed are the region matches. If there are any questions, I can be reached at school at 814 425 7421, or on my cell, 814 282 6233. My mailing address is P.O. Box 127, Cochranton, PA 16314. Marketing items will be available from District 10 and will be sold on all days at the tournament. The format for the State Tournament provides for the advancement of one Class A team, two Class AA teams, and one Class AAA team. The State Tournament inner district dates are November 6 th and 10 th. The semi finals will be November 13 th. The State Championship finals will be November 17 th. All matches will be single elimination, best three of five match play.
