FORE! Hillcrest CC Golf News Red Tee Report: Thank you to all the ladies who played in the Hillcrest Women s Club Championship! What they lacked in numbers, they made up in spirit, sportsmanship and friendship. Congratulations to Lydia Couch, our new Club Champion and Rhonda Pruitt, who won low net for the tournament. The Annual Hillcrest Women s Association Christmas Luncheon will be Saturday, December 8 th at 11am. Please make plans to come! Call the Dining Room to make your reservation. 806-765-6601. Faithfully; Susan Headley s Hints: by Pro Adam Headley Each month I will provide some helpful tips on how to approach each hole for maximum scoring. Happy Golf! HOLE #4 How to Play Hole #4 If you can keep your tee shot to the right side of the fairway you ll have a better chance at reaching the green in 2. You can try and cut off some yardage by going to the right off the tee but the gap is pretty narrow and the lie will most likely not be level. Playing to the fairway is the safer shot. Your approach into the green is the most important part of this hole. This green is very narrow and requires a precise shot to get close. My advice here is to mentally draw a line down the middle of the green. Try to hit that line with the correct distance. This will leave you with a maximum of 15 feet for your putt if you hit it pin high. Good Golfing! Annual Hillcrest Women s Association Christmas Luncheon. Saturday December 8 th at 11:00am

From the Grounds up! Dear Members, Thank you for your patience and understanding while we scalped, seeded and watered the rye seed for tees, approaches and green surrounds! The results should help us present a more playable course over the next few months. The corollary to rye seed going out is traffic control on the course. More rope is going out. Some areas the rope will be permanently in place until the spring green up. Other areas, mostly fairway access, will be changed every few weeks as the need arises. Hillcrest members compare are better then average in taking care of their own course. The following is just a gentle reminder. We ve had these same talks with the maintenance staff. There are problem areas where I need your help. I dislike roping off greens walk ups like left of four green short of the bunker. I know that is an in play area but I see carts driving and parking there regularly. In general Avoid making visible paths by staying off good healthy upright turf and using the cart path. Areas like the old cart path on the left of 10 green are good options. Existing roads help us from damaging the surrounding area. But, I m sure, we all agree that no new paths and roads need to be made. There should be no rules relief or casual rolling of the ball off of a bare lie created by golf cart traffic. Thank you for your help! Daren Hazel Hillcrest Course Superintendent

New Shoe Shine/Shoe Cleaning Service We are excited to let you know about the new service we will be offering to all at Hillcrest Country Club. As many of you know the Rules of Golf are changing a little bit beginning in 2019. Below is a summary of some of the most notable changes: Ball at Rest Ball Moved During Search No penalty for accidentally moving your ball during search. No Penalty for Moving Ball on the Putting Green No penalty for accidentally moving your ball or ball-marker on the putting green. Ball in Motion Ball in Motion Accidentally Deflected No penalty if your ball in motion is accidentally deflected by you, your equipment, or your caddie. Taking Relief New Procedure for Dropping a Ball Your ball must be let go from knee height and fall through the air without touching any part of your body or equipment. Time for Search before ball is lost Your ball is lost if not found in 3 minutes Substitution of Ball Always Allowed When Taking Relief You may always substitute a ball when taking relief. Relief For an Embedded Ball Relief allowed without penalty for an embedded ball anywhere (except in sand) in the general area (a new term for through the green ). Procedure for Taking Lateral Relief In taking lateral relief, you will drop within two club-lengths of where your ball entered the penalty area. The size of a club-length will always be measured using the longest club in your bag, other than your putter. Procedure for Taking Back-on-the-Line Relief One of your options for relief from either a red or yellow penalty area will be called back-on-the-line relief. Areas of the Course Repairing Damage on the Putting Green Repair of almost any damage allowed on the putting green (including spike marks and animal damage). Touching Line of Play on a Putting Green No penalty for touching your line of play on the putting green so long as doing so does not improve the conditions for your s troke. Touching Loose Impediments or Ground in a Penalty Area No penalty for moving loose impediments, touching the ground, or grounding your club in a penalty area. Expanded Use of Red-Marked Penalty Areas Committees are given the discretion to mark any penalty area as red so that lateral relief is always allowed. Elimination of Opposite Side Relief for Red Penalty Areas Relief from a red penalty area no longer allowed on the opposite side from where the ball last entered the pe nalty area. Unplayable Ball in Bunker Relief allowed outside a bunker for an unplayable ball for two penalty strokes. Equipment Use of Clubs Damaged During Round A club damaged during a round can continue to be used, even if you damaged it in anger. Adding Clubs to Replace a Club Damaged During Round You will not be allowed to replace a damaged club during a round if you were responsible for the damage. Use of Distance-Measuring Devices The use of DMDs will be allowed unless a Local Rule has been adopted prohibiting their use. Playing a Ball Ball Accidentally Struck More Than Once During a Stroke If your club accidentally strikes your ball more than once during a stroke, there will be no penalty and your ball will be pl ayed as it lies. New Local Rule Local Rule: Alternative to Stroke and Distance A new Local Rule will provide an alternative to stroke-and-distance relief for a ball that is lost outside a penalty area or out of bounds. l;

Kathy s Tennis Report Hi Tennis Players, We will continue to think about the mental aspect of tennis in this month's newsletter. A tennis player chokes when he lets anger, doubt, fear or some other extraneous factor distract him before a shot. When one gets distracted, he fails to do one or more of the things he normally does before each point. He fails to follow his mental routine. He forgets his game plan. He fails to accept his shots. He stops trusting his swing. He starts going through a checklist of errors to avoid. He gets tight and careful. His muscles get tight, his feet get stiff and he loses his natural grace and tempo. That's what choking really is. It is important to dispose a few common misconceptions. First choking is not synonymous with being nervous. Being nervous can actually help one with performance. Welcome the nerves. Choking is also not synonymous with making a bad shot in a pressure situation. Making shots precisely is a complicated task and no one can hit each shot perfectly all the time. Choking is also not the inevitable by-product of a flawed swing. Swings don t hold up under pressure; people do. It is of upmost importance to learn from each experience and move on. Intelligently analyze what went wrong in a particular situation and take steps to correct it. Best of luck! See you on the tennis courts.
