Pre-Arrival Preparation After you have pre-registered for the class and received an email confirmation you should begin to get ready for your day at the range. Prepare for your day at the range by inspecting all of your gear and make sure it is in good working order. Obtain 200 rounds of ammo, at least three magazines, two magazine holders, holster, and of course your sidearm. A strong belt is highly recommended. Insure your eye and ear protection are in good working order and that you have an appropriate cover garment. Good footwear is recommended since the terrain is rough on F-Range. A shooting ball cap is recommended but not required. Range Safety Briefing Our range safety briefing is mandatory and will begin promptly at 8:00 AM. You must be there for this briefing or you will not be able to take the class. Refunds are not provided for late arrivals. Leave you gun and equipment in your vehicle until we move to the range. BGTC is a cold range. This means you must not move your sidearm unless it is in a safe condition, unloaded, bagged or holstered, breach open and or flagged.the muzzle must always be in a 2
safe condition. No concealed carry guns allowed in class or IDPA events. Gun Management, Muzzle & Finger Control We will cover the basics of gun management, muzzle & finger control. These skills are essential to safe handgun use and competition. IDPA Range Commands Understanding the commands and process enable the competitive shooter focus on the challenge ahead. We will review and explain the commands and rational for each. Draw Stroke & Holstering Safety The draw and holstering techniques are extremely important to safety. We review the best methods for both. Reloading Techniques We will focus on the slide lock and reload with retention. Both techniques are required in IDPA competition. You will be confident with you reloads after this class. Proper Use of Cover Scoring Targets & Penalties We will cover basic scoring of targets and related penalties. We will practice the balance between speed & accuracy in your overall score and match results. Shooting On the Move One of the more difficult skills to acquire. We will demonstrate footwork techniques and muzzle control while engaging targets on the move. You will learn how to shoot moving in all directions; forward, backward, left and right. All are essential for effective stage management. Live Fire Practice This will be a very fun day for each student. We will shoot a simulated match with some basic drills to insure each participant has the basics down for safety. Actual range time will be from 9:00 AM till approximately 4:00PM. Safe Area Near Parking Lot Use safe area to holster up your side arm from carry bag. Return to your vehicle by placing firearm back in your bag within the safe area before Use of cover is important in defensive shooting techniques. We will cover proper use of cover that will prevent excessive penalties during competition. Stage Details We discuss stage design and stage management while balancing the shooters skills, speed and stage strategy, resulting in the best outcome. leaving the range area. 3
HOW TO REGISTER Contact Charlie Baker via email or cell phone and receive a registration notice. Read and complete the information requested and forward a check for $65.00 to hold your spot in the class. Registration is on a first come first serve basis by check receipt. We cap each class at 20 (Two Squads of 10) for maximum training effect. Refunds are only provided for emergencies with 48 hour notice or you can move to next scheduled class. These classes generally have a waiting list so decide and respond promptly.
