On This Day in History 1890 Navy defeated Army by a score of 24-0 in the first Army-Navy football game. 1929 The first airplane flight over the South Pole was made by U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Richard E. Byrd. 1961 The Mercury-Atlas 5 spacecraft was launched by the U.S. with Enos the chimp on board. The spacecraft orbited the Earth twice before landing off the coast of Puerto Rico. 1975 Bill Gates adopted the name Microsoft for the company he and Paul Allen had formed to write the BASIC computer language. 2004 Godzilla received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.

Chorus Chorus rehearsals are Monday and Thursday after school until 4:05 pm in the Band Room.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collected pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. A collection box will be in the Commons for your donations!

6 th /7 th Grade Girls Volleyball Tryouts Tryouts for 6 th and 7 th grade girls volleyball will be held from 7:30-8:30 am on Monday, Dec. 11 th and from 3:15-4:45 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 12 th. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and should be turned in to Coach Chicvara by Friday, Dec. 8 th.

Zumba Club Zumba Club will meet after school Thursday in Room 111 until 4:00.

Jazz Band Jazz Band rehearses at Prairie View every Wednesday after school from 4:00-5:15 pm.

Cheer/Dance Team Tryout forms for the Cheer/Dance team are available in the rack outside the Main Office. They are due back to Mrs. Griffin in Room 210 by Thursday, Nov. 30 th. Mandatory clinic is Tuesday, Dec. 5 th with tryouts Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 6 th and 7 th.

6 th Grade Book Club Sixth grade Book Club members will meet after school Thursday in Room 115.

Crayola ColorCycle Students and teachers will soon be collecting used markers (any brand!) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Boxes will be located in the Commons. The Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year! Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!

7 th Grade Book Club Seventh grade Book Club will meet Thursday after school in Room 116.

6th/7 th Grade Girls Basketball Congratulations to Samantha Fratto and Emily Tobin on being selected for the 6 th /7 th Grade SWIC All-Conference team!! Only the top 15 players in the conference are selected for this elite team!!

14th Annual Remembering Cathy & Allison Toy Drive Grissom is once again collecting toys for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. Please drop off unwrapped toys in the box in the Main Office. Deadline for donations is Wednesday, Dec. 20 th.

Student Support Before and after school Student Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each morning, and from 3:10-4:05 pm Monday through Thursday. You must arrive at the beginning of the session and stay for the whole time!

Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved over 6,600 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles. So far this year, we ve saved 4,110 bottles from landfills! Let s beat last year s total!
