On This Day in History 1701 Anders Celsius was born in Sweden. He was the inventor of the Celsius thermometer. 1779 The College of Pennsylvania became the University of Pennsylvania. It was the first legally recognized university in America. 1910 New York s Pennsylvania Station opened. 1973 The U.S. Senate voted to confirm Gerald R. Ford as vice president after the resignation of Spiro T. Agnew. 1980 Dave Williams of the Chicago Bears became the first player in NFL history to return a kick for a touchdown in overtime.
Box Tops for Education The PE department is collecting Box Tops for Education. Please turn them in to your PE/Health teacher.

Chorus Chorus rehearsals are Monday and Thursday after school until 4:05 pm in the Band Room.
Mathletes Mathletes will meet until 4:05 pm after school Tuesday. We will meet in Room 222.
Student Council Student Council members will meet Tuesday after school in Room 118.
Newspaper Club Staff members of the Newspaper Club will meet Tuesday after school in Room 223.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Grissom is once again collected pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. A collection box will be in the Commons for your donations!
6 th /7 th Grade Girls Volleyball Tryouts Tryouts for 6 th and 7 th grade girls volleyball will be held from 7:30-8:30 am on Monday, Dec. 11 th and from 3:15-4:45 pm on Tuesday, Dec. 12 th. Permission forms are in the rack outside the Main Office and should be turned in to Coach Chicvara by Friday, Dec. 8 th.
Zumba Club There is a new club at Grissom! Zumba Club!! Zumba is a form of physical fitness that incorporates dance movements to upbeat music. You re working out by dancing! Zumba will start on Thursday, Nov. 30 th. The club is limited to the first 20 students to turn in permission forms to Ms. Walker. See Ms. Walker in Room 111 if you have any questions.
Jazz Band Jazz Band rehearses at Prairie View every Wednesday after school from 4:00-5:15 pm.
Cheer/Dance Team Tryout forms for the Cheer/Dance team are available in the rack outside the Main Office. They are due back to Mrs. Griffin in Room 210 by Thursday, Nov. 30 th. Mandatory clinic is Tuesday, Dec. 5 th with tryouts Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 6 th and 7 th.

Crayola ColorCycle Students and teachers will soon be collecting used markers (any brand!) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Boxes will be located in the Commons. The Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year! Remember, don t throw out that used marker ColorCycle it!
Internet Safety Please remind your parents to attend the Internet Safety presentation that will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28 th at 7:00 pm here at Grissom. Det. Bonerak from the Tinley Park Police Department will be the presenter. (This meeting is for parents only!)

Student Support Before and after school Student Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each morning, and from 3:10-4:05 pm Monday through Thursday. You must arrive at the beginning of the session and stay for the whole time!
Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge Last year Grissom Patriots saved over 6,600 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the water bottle filling stations throughout the building. Please remember to use these instead of plastic bottles. So far this year, we ve saved 4,110 bottles from landfills! Let s beat last year s total!
