Spectator Parking Finals Finalists We have limited parking available on-site in the parking lot next to the Stadium and the lot next to the Natatorium. These lots will fill up during the Contest. We have off site spectator parking behind Westwood Elementary (211 Stadium Ln). We will be running free shuttle buses from 9:30 am through after the Contest from the offsite parking. The no parking zones around the neighborhood streets of Friendswood High School are strictly enforced. Please pass the separate parking flyer on to your parents and fans and encourage them to park off-site and take the free shuttle to the stadium. The top 10 scoring bands will have the opportunity to march in Finals. The Finals order will be a draw based on Preliminary scores. In the event a top 10 scoring band is not marching in finals, the next highest scoring band will be given the opportunity to march in finals and so on. The finals spots will be drawn for times based on the scores from prelims. The top 5 scoring bands will draw for the last round of finals (band positions 1-5). Bands scoring 6 th 10 th in Prelims will draw for the first round of finals. Finalist Director s Meeting Critique This meeting will take place during the Prelims retreat in the Cafeteria which is right next to the Stadium just across the small triangle parking lot. This is when the drawing for Finals will commence. Finalist bands without representation at the Director meeting will be given the 1 st performance spot in their group of 5. If more than one band in a group of 5, is without representation, then the contest representative will draw to determine performance order. The Judges Critique will be offered to the finalist bands. The Critique will be held in the Cafeteria shortly after Friendswood s performance, during the finalist retreat. Each group will get 4 minutes with the Visual Judges and 4 minutes with the Music Judges. Critique is timed. Critique order will be first come first serve. There will be a sign-in sheet when you arrive. To get the

most benefit from your critique session, it is helpful to have listened to the judges commentary prior to your critique. Judges Commentary You will be given a jump drive that will have all of the Judges commentary after each performance. They will be located at a table on the track. Please give us 1.5 hours after your performance to have these available. You will be given a 2 nd one after finals. Please bring a laptop or some other way to listen to the commentary. These will be mp3 files. This contest is running a UIL Clock. Because we are early in the contest season,

Penalties all timing is provided as information only. Cones are placed on the track to indicate timing clock start and stop. 5 minute warmup Announcement at 4:15 Performance Min Time: 5 min Performance Max Time: 8 min Field Clear: 2min When you arrive at the gate, please notify the timing official: Your Band Set-up/Warm-up Option: 1. Announcer cued at 4:15 2. Announcer cued on director signal (We offer this option as an early season help; however, it is not allowed at UIL or BOA. The Actual set-up time will be noted on timing sheet) 3. If you have a moving pre-show. You will receive your timing sheets and notes as information. Timing infractions will not penalize the overall score and are provided as information only in order to help you prepare for the upcoming marching season. Penalties for destruction of school property or disrupting another band s performance must be approved by both the Festival Chair and the Friendswood Director of Bands. In the event of such penalties, the head director from the offending band will be notified directly. Video Taping Copyright We do not video tape performances due to copyright regulations. It is up to each unit to video tape their own performances. No videotaping may occur from the press box or in the sections in front of the press box. You may video tape from the top of the stands in the sections on either side of the press box. Any applicable copyright laws for the performance and/or arranging of music for each band s performance are the sole responsibility of each participating unit.

WarmUp Each Band will have 45 minutes in the warm up area. This should allow you to be at the gate 5-10 minutes prior to your performance time. Pit WarmUp Each Pit will have 35 minutes in the warm up area. This should get you to the gate a minimum of 15 minutes prior to your performance time in order to prestage your pit on the track for your performance. Band Entrance and Exit Large Props Everyone coming from the warm-up field (bands, guards, pits, and props) will go through 2 gates on the way to the Stadium. The smallest gate is 66 inches wide. The gates are open at the top and there is no height restriction. Jarvis Tympani carts and command center podiums that are 60 inches wide do fit with wheels on. Both bands and pits exit the field from the same gate. Please note band entrance and exit gates on the map. When on the field, be sure to follow the yellow direction arrows. Props that are entering the field from the large prop staging area will have direct access to the field without a gate. The large prop staging area can be accessed by the unpaved road at the back of the spectator parking lot by the water tower. Trucks will be allowed to drive this road between bands and during breaks. Students/parents that need to access this area from the band warm-up fields should travel under the visitor stands. Props may be assembled in the large prop staging area. Please be considerate of the performing bands. Props that are assembled in the front of the school in the truck parking area will either need to fit through the 6 foot gates and under the visitor stands or travel up Mustang Road (under power lines), through the spectator parking lot, and over the unpaved road at the water tower end of the stadium. After your performance, large props may exit with the band and pit or return to the large prop staging area. Props may be left in the staging area throughout the contest.

Retreats If you have any questions or concerns about your specific props, please ask. Both Prelims and Finals will be Drum Major/Auxillary Captains only. Please have them report to the band exit gate during the performance of the last Band. The last Band in Prelims is Stephen F. Austin and the last band in Finals is Friendswood in Exhibition. Finals Bands We are expecting the spectator stands to be full, please plan to sit in the end sections of the home stands or the backside visitors stands after your performance. Entry to these stands will be from the Water tower end side of the stadium. From inside the stadium, use the track near the score board. Please wait and do not enter the track during a band s performance. From outside the stadium, walk the unpaved road near the water tower and enter through the prop staging area. Feeding Your Bands Please inform your Booster Clubs students can be fed in the bus parking lot or the soccer field (weather permitting) between the stadium and natatorium parking lots. DO NOT feed your Bands around the warm-up fields, in the Truck parking lot on the warm-up side of the school, or the front parking lot where Trucks are parked. This is so all the Bands have clear entry/exit to the warm-up areas and pathways to the stadium without interruption and to keep the noise level to a minimum so each band has the best preparation time possible.
