Meanwhile, the Saints won their first game of the year Saturday against Morgan State, 69-46, in the consolation game of the Navy Classic. The Saints fell in an overtime heartbreaker to the host Mids a day earlier despite leading in the final 1:30 of both regulation and overtime, including a four-point lead with 90 seconds left in the extra session. SCOUTING THE SAINTS Sophomore Kollyns Scarbrough has led the Saints this season at 14.2 points and 2.5 steals per game to go along with 5.8 rebounds per contest. Four more Saints have averaged between 6.7 and 7.8 points per game, led by Denisha Petty-Evans, who s hit on 37.5 percent from long range for 7.8 points per game. 2015-16 Preseason All-MAAC Second Team and 2015 MAAC Rookie of the Year selection Margot Hetzke has chipped in with 7.5 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game, while freshman Jackie Benitez is next on the list at 6.8 points per game, hoisting up a team-high 34 three-point attempts (6-34). Preseason All- MAAC Second Teamer Meghan Donohue has also contributed 6.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. ALL-TIME SERIES VS. Monmouth leads the all-time series with Siena, 9-5. The Saints took both meetings last season after the Hawks won both games in 2013-14. Prior to the Hawks first season in the MAAC, the two teams had not squared off since February 26, 1986. MU had won sixstraight games in the series prior to last year s setbacks. LAST TIME OUT The Hawks fell at Providence, 71-59, on Saturday. Jasmine Walker posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyese Purvis and Dana Carbone each scored a teamhigh 12 points. Christina Mitchell also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Christina Mitchell leads the way at 4.3 caroms per game on the offensive glass (2nd-MAAC) and four of the 16 players on the MAAC leaderboard come from Monmouth (Jasmine Walker - 2.5, McKinzee Barker - 2.5, Tyese Purvis - 2.0). The Hawks are also 21st in the nation and lead the MAAC at 8.5 three-point field goals made per game, with Sarah Olson leading the conference at 2.8 threes per game and Purvis close behind at 2.5. Monmouth also leads the MAAC at 70.0 points per game, 45.8 rebounds per game and 9.5 steals per game, while ranking second in turnover margin (+3.00). Individually, Barker also leads the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.6), with the next-closest league foe coming in at 2.4. Just a freshman, Barker also ranks second in the league in minutes played at 35.2 per game. HALF DOZEN DOUBLE-DOUBLES Jasmine Walker posted her sixth career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds on Nov. 28 at Providence. The senior guard did most of her damage in the first half with 10 points and eight rebounds, including six on the offensive glass, in the first 20 minutes. The sophomore hit a pair of three pointers and all four of her free-throw attempts on the day. HAWKS SIGN SIX FOR 2016-17 Head Coach Jenny Palmateer announced the signings of six student-athletes for 2016-17 during the early signing period. Guards Rosa Graham (Rochester, NY), Alaina Jarnot (Brooklyn Park, MN) and Kayla Shaw (Scottsdale, AZ) and post players Alexa Middleton (Philadelphia, PA), Taylor Nason (Lorton, VA) and Adriana Zelaya (Goodyear, AZ) all signed National Letters of Intent to join the Hawks next season. BARKER ON THE BOARDS Freshman point guard McKinzee Barker grabbed nine rebounds in each of her first three games at Monmouth and now stands at 7.3 rebounds per game, good for second on the team behind Christina Mitchell (8.3 rpg - 5th-MAAC) an eight in the conference. DOUBLE, ALMOST TRIPLE Tyese Purvis posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds and McKinzee Barker narrowly missed a triple-double with 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in the Hawks 86-80 overtime victory at Colgate. The effort, along with a six-point, nine-rebound performance earlier in the week, led to MAAC Rookie of the Week honors for Barker. WORKING OVERTIME Through three games, 40 minutes weren t enough twice for Monmouth. The Hawks fell in overtime to Lehigh, 95-88, in the season opener on Nov. 13, before the Hawks prevailed at Colgate, 86-80, on Nov. 22. CAN A HAWK RUN? Monmouth had four runs of at least 6-0 in the victory at Colgate on Nov. 22, including a 14-0 spurt spanning the end of the first quarter through the beginning of the second. Monmouth also had a 6-0 run in the first quarter, an 8-0 run spanning the end of the second and beginning of the third quarter and another 8-0 spurt to end the game in overtime. JB S BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE Senior Jamiyah Bethune had easily the best statistical performance of her Monmouth career in the Hawks overtime setback at Lehigh on Nov. 13. Bethune s 22 points shattered her previous career-best of 14 points, while her four assists, two blocks and 32 minutes played were also the most of her career. Bethune made 10-of-14 attempts from the floor and both of her free-throw attempts.

TURN(OVER) AND SHOOT Monmouth forced 25 Lehigh turnovers, took a 32-12 edge in points off turnovers and shattered the program-record with 100 field goals on Nov. 13. Monmouth s previous high was 89 field-goal attempts in a double-overtime win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Jan. 9, 1986. The Hawks committed just 11 turnovers themselves in the overtime contest. Sarah Olson had a team-high five steals, while Jamiyah Bethune added four. McKinzee Barker and Tyese Purvis also came away with three steals apiece. IMPRESSIVE DEBUTS Junior college transfer Tyese Purvis and freshman McKinzee Barker made their Monmouth debuts at Lehigh and both left an impression. Purvis came off the bench to score all 11 of her points in the first half, while Barker got the start and finished with a stat line of nine points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals, while turning the ball over just once in 37 minutes at the point guard position. STATS EXTRA 2015-16 MONMOUTH DOUBLE-FIGURE GAMES POINTS REBOUNDS Sarah Olson - 3 Christina Mitchell - 1 Jamiyah Bethune - 3 Tyese Purvis - 1 Jasmine Walker - 3 Jasmine Walker - 1 Tyese Purvis - 3 Christina Mitchell - 1 McKinzee Barker - 1 Dana Carbone - 1 DOUBLE-DOUBLES BECOMING ROUTINE Junior Christina Mitchell compiled her seventh career double-double and her sixth in a span of 28 games, Nov. 13 at Lehigh. Mitchell scored 12 points to go along with 11 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Two of Mitchell s five made field goals came from beyond the three-point arc, including one in overtime to give the Hawks the lead. WHO S BACK The Hawks return 10 of 14 letter winners from a year ago, including four of five starters. However that number falls to nine letter winners and three starters when figuring in the season-ending injury suffered over the summer to point guard Helena Kurt. Sarah Olson, Jasmine Walker and Amanda Offenback are all back after ending the year in the Hawks starting five. Olson averaged a team-high 11.5 points per game, while burying 70 three-point field goals and shooting a team-best 35.4 percent from long range. Walker was third on the team in scoring (8.0) and second in rebounding (4.8 rpg.), while Offenback chipped in with 4.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Christina Mitchell (6.4 ppg., 6.9 rpg.) provides a dynamic option for the Hawks as a 6-foot-4 forward who can stretch the defense with the three-point shot. Jamiyah Bethune (5.5 ppg., 3.3 rpg.) is another versatile player with the ability to play four positions on the floor. Jasmine McCall, Dana Carbone, Rachel Odumu and Danica Dragicevic also played in at least 12 games apiece off the bench last season, with Odumu also starting one game. WHO S NEW Monmouth welcomes three new student-athletes to the roster, along with a pair of new assistant coaches. Junior college transfer Tyese Purvis and freshman guard McKinzee Barker join the Hawks back court, while freshman center Erica Balman will provide depth in the front court. Purvis was a Second Team All-American at Monroe C.C., averaging 12.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season. Barker was a four-time All-State and All-Conference performer at Clay County (WV) High School. She finished her scholastic career with more than 1,300 points, nearly 700 rebounds, and more than 500 steals and 500 assists. Balman, a three-star recruit with an 88 grade from ESPN.com, was ranked the No. 65 recruit at the center position by ESPN. She averaged 10.3 points and 5.8 rebounds in earning Second Team All-Onondaga as a senior. WHO S GONE The Hawks lost one player to graduation, while three more left the program. Sara English exhausted her eligibility after contributing 3.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game last season. Jenny Horvatinovic (6.8 ppg., 3.3 rpg.), Mia Hopkins (4.0 ppg., 2.5 rpg.) and Sophie Beaudry (2.8 ppg., 2.4 rpg.) each decided to transfer following the 2014-15 season. 10 SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES For the second straight season, 10 different Hawks scored in double figures in a game in 2014-15. Sarah Olson, Jenny Horvatinovic, Helena Kurt, Jasmine Walker, Christina Mitchell, Amanda Offenback, Mia Hopkins, Jamiyah Bethune, Sara English and Sophie Beaudry all reached double figures at least once. MEDIA SERVICES INTERVIEWS WITH COACH PALMATEER Media wishing to interview Coach Palmateer must notify Greg Ott of the Monmouth Athletics Communications office and twenty-four hours of advance notice is appreciated. Coach Palmateer is available most weekday mornings for interviews or after practice. PRACTICE COVERAGE Monmouth s practices are open to the media. Shooting of video and still photos is limited to the first 20 minutes of each practice unless other arrangements are made through the Athletics Communications office. MEDIA CREDENTIALS Arrangements for media credentials for Monmouth home basketball games must be made through Greg Ott of the Monmouth Athletics Communications office. Requests by accredited media members should be made in writing and submitted on company letterhead to Greg Ott. Credentials must be requested at least 48 hours prior to requested game. SEEING A PATTERN Monmouth was 13-2 when shooting a higher percentage than the opposition and 0-16 when being outshot in 2014-15. The Hawks were also 11-2 when leading or tied at the half and 2-16 when trailing after 20 minutes. In the two wins when trailing at the half, Monmouth s deficit after 20 minutes was one against both Iona (Dec. 7) and Canisius (Mar. 5). DOUBLE FIGURE DEPTH The Hawks depth was on display in 2014-15, as 10 players averaged double figures in minutes. Helena Kurt led the way at 30.8 minutes per game, while Sarah Olson was close behind at 30.7 minutes per game. Jenny Horvatinovic, Christina Mitchell, Jasmine Walker, Jamiyah Bethune, Sara English, Mia Hopkins, Sophie Beaudry and Amanda Offenback also averaged at least 11.7 minutes per game. OLSON FROM LONG RANGE Sarah Olson made her presence felt from beyond the three-point arc in her first season with the Hawks, making 70 of 198 attempts (.354). She hit four or more three-point attempts eight times in 2014-15. For her career, which includes two seasons at NJIT, she s connected on six or more three-point field goals in a single game nine times. COMING TOGETHER VS. After falling to Canisius twice by an average of 15.0 points per game and trailing the Griffs by 20 in both regular-season contests, Monmouth bounced back with a 68-56 victory in the 2015 MAAC Championship First Round. Helena Kurt led the way with 22 points, while Jasmine Walker posted her fifth-career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Christina Mitchell also chipped in with 14 points. HOW TO REACH US: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR/COMMUNICATIONS: GREG OTT Phone: 732.263.5834 Fax: 732.263.5770 Email: gott@monmouth.edu Cell Phone: 908.783.5258 FIVE IN DOUBLE FIGURES Monmouth had five scorers finish in double figures for the first time of the 2014-15 season, Feb. 20. Helena Kurt (21), Christina Mitchell (13), Sophie Beaudry (12), Jamiyah Bethune (12) and Jasmine Walker (10) all scored at least 10 points. Monmouth had posted three games with four players in double figures - Nov. 28 at Wagner, Dec. 13 vs. Colgate and Feb. 5. DOUBLE THE OVERTIME, DOUBLE THE FUN Monmouth was 2-0 in double-overtime games last season, having defeated Iona (Dec. 7) and Niagara (Feb. 20) in 50-minute affairs. Meanwhile, the Hawks didn t have as much luck in their lone single-overtime result, falling on Feb. 1. EN FUEGO Sarah Olson connected on 10-of-18 attempts from the floor, including 7-of-12 from long range, en route to a career-high 27 points Jan. 22 against Siena. The seven three-pointers put Olson in rare company all-time at Monmouth. Niamh Dwyer is the program singlegame record holder with eight three-point field goals made against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Valentine s Day 2005. Liz Whalen and Gabby Singer also connected for seven trifectas in February 2003 and 2013, respectively. What sets Olson apart is that all of her three predecessors turned the trick on the road, making her accomplishment the most threepoint field goals made by an MU player on the Hawks home court. MILESTONE WIN AT In its 33rd season of Division I in 2014-15, Monmouth earned its 500th victory as a Division I program on Jan. 16, 2015,. HAWKS PLAY 4KAY Since Head Coach Jenny Palmateer took over the reins of the Monmouth women s basketball team, Play 4Kay Day has traditionally taken on greater meaning. Palmateer both played and coached a combined 14 years under Kay Yow, the longtime North Carolina State Head Coach for whom the cause is named. Play 4Kay is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
