Thank you to all that attended the general meeting and welcoming in our new members that were inducted. Thank you to Carl and Sue for chairing Christmas Angels and all who helped make it possible for the children to have a special Christmas. Thank you to the 6-Pack hosts (Alysha, James, Sabrina, JB, Mary & Terry) for a great New Year s Eve party and bringing in 2016 all together at BVYC. And, Thank you to all the wonderful members for continuing to fill up the box for the Bremerton Food-Line. We now are in January and as the days are short, cold, darker and gray we tend to become weary. No worries, because Commodore Carolyn has her pom-poms out again and we will be wishing Janu-weary away with a Social Gathering Saturday Janu-weary 16 th BVYC style. The next week Friday January 22 nd will be Pier Peer and will be needing volunteers to help out. See attached flyer. Looking forward to seeing you all at the general meeting on the 12 th and more inductions of new members. Wow! Our club is growing and there is much activity Page 1 of 5
coming this New Year that you all do not want to miss out on any of it! Take a moment to review your calendars and consider hosting or co-hosting a club gathering for February ~ Super Bowl Sunday, OR March/April ~ a Social, OR May ~ Kentucky Derby or Cinco De Mayo. Our club has an array of decorations and supplies for you to use. Happy New Year Commodore Carolyn s/v Absolutely VICE COMMODORE REAR COMMODORE Another busy year has come and gone already! Welcome to 2016! Doesn t it seem like it was only yesterday that we were all very worried about how our computers would withstand the highly anticipated and fearsome Y2K rollover problem?!! Somehow we all made it through and here we are now 16 years downstream! Amazing! Hope you had a great time and lots of fun welcoming in the new year! This year was a good one for our clubhouse rentals. I wish I could give you an exact number but I am still trying to figure things out as rear commodore. But if the number of rentals over the last three months mean anything, we must have had a fine year. Even though I am still learning all about how to be a reasonably functional and effective rear commodore, I do want to say that the job is very interesting and I am enjoying it very much. I thank Ron and Noreen, and Carl and Sue, for coaxing me into taking on the job! I also encourage, and urge actually, all our new members to jump in and be actively involved by helping the flag officers and appointed leaders this coming year. This is a great way to get to know the workings of the club and to make the club better and stronger. We need fresh blood and ideas to help keep things moving along! Don t be afraid to speak up and give your ideas, opinions, thoughts at a meeting or directly to one of the club leaders! Don t be shy, you ll find everyone is super friendly and helpful here at Brownsville Yacht Club! One final thing to add before I step away from my laptop. I am already getting calls and emails from other clubs and non-members asking to rent and use the clubhouse this new year. If you have plans to privately use the clubhouse in the next 12 months, it would be a heck of a good idea to check out the official calendar right now and get your reservation(s) in as soon as possible. I keep track of reservations using the online calendar that is part of our website. To check the date you are interested in just go to www.brownsvilleyachtclub.org Page 2 of 5
and then click the little box on the left side of the screen labeled calendar. In a flash you will see the official BVYC calendar before your very eyes and be able to check out the dates you are interested in. Oh, one more actually final thing! To members new and old, please think about hosting or co-hosting in the clubhouse a TGIF Social, popcorn social, Movie Night, Pot-Luck, or ANY club gathering event this year. Let me your highly skilled and motivated (yet ever so humble) rear commodore know the date or dates and I will post them on the calendar for you stat! HAPPY NEW YEAR! FLEET CAPTAIN Happy New Year Brownsville Yacht Club Cruisers! May 2016 be filled with cruising opportunities for all of you this year, beginning with our first trip to Kingston on March 18-20. It is a short trip with lots to do in town, In the meantime, there is no January cruise, though I hope members will consider a social this month, with members hosting or just organizing an impromptu gathering. While no cruise is scheduled for February, there is a destination boating opportunity in Poulsbo. Sign up directly with the Port of Poulsbo. P/C Miss Marlene Thanks for making 2015 cruises so enjoyable. Remember, you bring the fun.
