2 MINI TOURNAMENTS Our mini tournaments go from strength to strength with all Timperley teams really enjoying their hockey along with other local clubs. Thanks go to Jo Nicholson for coordinating this season s tournaments. Thanks also to all the coaches, young leaders and parents that have helped make the tournaments a real success. We ve a few more tournaments planned so please do come down and support our younger teams Under 12 s Sunday 2 nd March (9.00am start) Under 10 s Sunday 16 th March (9.00am start) Sunday 6 th April (1.30pm start) ENGLAND HOCKEY COMPETITIONS We have had a very successful season overall in the EH competitions and there s still more to play for. It is great to see Timperley junior teams well and truly on the hockey map in the North now! We couldn t compete in these competitions without the time and commitment coaches, umpires, parent managers, parents and players so thanks go to all involved. Under 16 s For the first time both our boys and girls team have reached the North Finals and both will be in action on Sunday 2 nd March. We wish both teams every success at this next level. Under 14 s The boys and girls complete their North West matches on Sunday 2 nd March at Timperley. So do try and get down to support the teams. The girls have had a tough group and gained lots of valuable experience. The boys will reach the North finals on 6h April if they win one of their final two games, so fingers crossed for them Under 10 s and 12 s Our younger teams will be taking part in the Cheshire Mini s during March at Chester Hockey Club. This is the county round of the national competition. Boys Under 10 and 12 s Sunday 9 th March Girls Under 10 and 12 s Sunday 23 rd March SUNDAY COACHING Parents and players are also reminded that if playing in tournaments or matches on a Sunday that they should not attend Sunday training as well. Older players involved in matches may be required to attend training and coaches will confirm. GREATER MANCHESTER JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE (BELLE VUE) The weather at Belle Vue has been unseasonably mild this season! The leagues provide lots of players the opportunity to develop. We continue to try and use the tournaments to give players not playing in Saturday matches, and new players, the chance for competitive matches. The leagues are now drawing to a close. Go to www.fixtureslive.com to check the league tables and all the results. Under 15 s Sunday 2 nd March Under 13 s Sunday 16 th March and 6 th April Under 11 s 23 rd March BADGERS AND BEAVERS Our Beavers continue to battle on against mainly all boys teams and whilst the results haven t gone their way the spirit and determination of the team continues to shine through. Beaver games continue with the last game on Saturday 12 th April. Next season we will be trying to get some of the Saturday fixtures against other girls teams to even up the games as we have so many girls. In contrast the badgers have had their best season for a number of years and finish their Saturday games at the end of March. Thanks to Matt, Ruth, Andrew and all our umpires and parents for supporting the Saturday fixtures and for helping transport player across the North West! PLAYER / SPECTATORS CONDUCT At many tournaments young leaders from local clubs umpire games. This is fantastic to see and we hope all players and parents will applaud those that are taking this step into umpiring and giving something back to the hockey family. Regrettably, in some cases the young umpires haven t been supported or respected as we would expect. This hasn t involved Timperley players, parents or umpires. We are supporting other clubs to keep comments from the side line and the pitch constructive and thank our supporters for continuing to show respect for those umpiring irrespective of their age.

3 Sunday 6 th April access to the Club Greater Manchester Marathon The Club will again be used as a drinks station and there will be road closures in place in the local area and outside the club on Stockport Road. Please give a bit more time to get to Sunday Training and come by foot or bike if at all possible. If coming by car please access the Club by Wood Lane 14 th 15 th April Multi Sports Tournament at Timperley Easter holiday multi sports coaching and tournament (hockey, lax and cricket) for 10 13 years olds. See flier or Tim Lucas for more details http://www.timperley-sports.com/documents/multisports_tournament_registration_form_2014.docx Parking help us keep the club safe Please help us with traffic flow at the club especially when it is very busy. We have introduced a one way system to ensure the safety of everybody at the club. Therefore, it s really important that all academy parents and family members use the one way system and any directions given by volunteers helping to manage traffic flow and parking. On Sundays or main tournament days please access the club, unless directed otherwise, by the Stockport Road entrance and EXIT using the Wood Lane gate. Please do not turn around to go back out onto Stockport Road as this can cause a blockages and hold ups and is not safe with the young players crossing the drive. Parking and staying at club Please use the parking area nearest to Stockport Road. If this is full please drive up the top car park nearest Wood Lane and the golf course The spaces outside the astro turf pitches will be coned off on a Sunday please do not try to park there or on the drive way Parents are welcome to use the clubhouse and facilities during training, matches or tournaments Player safety Wooden bollards have been fitted to stop cars parking on the footpath adjacent to the clubhouse This creates a safe walkway from Stockport Road car park to the clubhouse for players to use to go and sign in The areas by the pitches will be coned off and there will be no parking before and during Sunday training We are looking for parents to volunteer to help with directing the flow of traffic on tournament days please let Pippa or Sophie know if you can help for a short time ACADEMY COMMITTEE Chair : Shelagh Entwisle Secretary: Ruth Brown Treasurer: Tricia Booth Lead Coach: Sophie Robinson Parent Rep: Mike Innes Sunday Admin: Pippa Ravenscroft Kit: Sarah Marsh Ladies Section Rep: Angela George Men s Section Rep: Matt Curnow Tournament coordinator: Jo Nicholson Child Welfare Officers: Sophie Robinson & Sarah March Communications support: Phil Marsh Fixtures: vacancy General Committee roles: vacancy CAN YOU HELP? To offer so much hockey we need a small army of volunteers who can give a little time to help us organise all the teams, tournament and administration. Many hands really do make light work so the more volunteers we have, the less time everyone involved needs to spen! Please talk to any of the committee or coaches if you would like to find out more and help us continue to run the academy

4 Player Development We run a large number of teams to give all players the opportunity to develop playing in matches from fun, introductory mini tournaments with other clubs through to regional and national competitions. See the player and parent handbook on the website for full details http://files.pitchero.com/clubs/29653/parentshandbook2013-14final.pdf England Hockey recommend using the 7 a side format (half pitch) to develop younger players and core skills prior to the transition to 11 a side full pitch We recognize that young players develop at different paces and have differing needs so we try to use the variety of teams and formats to help all players develop. Any girls for Cricket? One of the benefits of being a junior member of Timperley Sports Club is that the 50 Club membership fee covers all three sports hockey, lacrosse and cricket. Some of our boys already play cricket in the summer and this year the club is intending to reintroduce Girls Cricket! To kick off this initiative an Open Day is being organised on Thursday 17th April between 10.00-16.00 Structured activity stations - fun and attractive Cheshire coaches to be involved plus Cheshire based girl's cricket coaches and England. Following this event weekly practice sessions will be held on Monday evenings and regular tournaments to be arranged with local clubs throughout the season. For more information email Tim Lucas (Club SDO) a : sportdev@timperley-sports.com Car Boot Sales at Timperley The Club runs car boots sales during the summer that raise funds for the various sports sections. So why not get down and help the club, clear some of your unwanted items and make some money yourself or volunteer to do a two hour shift to help the hockey sections to raise funds.
