Thank you for purchasing this CLARKE Pallet Truck. Please read this leaflet and ensure all users are fully aware of the precautions to be taken and limitations of use. This will ensure their safety and that of others in the vicinity, and you can look forward to the Pallet Truck giving long and satisfactory service. GUARANTEE This CLARKE product is guaranteed against faulty manufacture for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Please keep your receipt as proof of purchase. This guarantee is invalid if the product is found to have been abused or tampered with in any way, or not used for the purpose for which it was intended. Faulty goods should be returned to their place of purchase, no product can be returned to us without prior permission. This guarantee does not effect your statutory rights. FEATURES This Pallet Truck is designed to raise or lower awkward or heavy loads to an operating height where they may be handled with relative ease, avoiding the risk of injury which might otherwise occur if manhandling the load to the same height. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DO NOT exceed the maximum working load for the truck. See Specifications. DO NOT use on rough terrain. The truck is designed for use on smooth flooring ONLY. DO NOT transport personnel on the truck. DO NOT leave the truck on a gradient without first securely chocking the wheels. DO NOT use if wheels or castors are damaged...have them replaced immediately. ALWAYS ensure the load is evenly distributed on the forks and is perfectly stable before attempting to raise When not in use, ALWAYS ensure the truck is left where it cannot become a hazard to others. If necessary, the wheels must be chocked to prevent it from moving and possibly becoming a hazard. 3

ASSEMBLY It is necessary to attach the handle assembly as follows: Fig. 1 1. Lower the chain through the hole in the handle bracket, so that it emerges at the bottom of the housing. 2. Secure the handle to the base with the locating screw and two pinch bolts provided. Fig. 2 3. Raise the end of the forked lever, shown at B, Fig. 2, against spring pressure, using a screwdriver or similar, and slide the threaded rod attached to the end of the chain, A between the forks, so that the locknut, screwed on to the threaded rod, locates behind the claws on the underside of the forks. Release the forked lever. Your Pallet truck is now fully assembled, however, before use it is IMPORTANT to check the following adjustments: 4

ADJUSTMENTS The control lever, located at the handle, has three positions, indicated by the decal on the handle. With the lever pulled to the upper position, the forks will lower. Fig. 3 The middle position allows the load to be transported The lower position will cause the forks to rise when the handle is pumped 1. Set the control lever to its lowest position (i.e. Lever in its fast lift position) 2. Check to ensure that there is absolutely no tension on the chain. If necessary, adjust the locknut, on the threaded rod attached to end of the chain, until free movement on the end of the control lever, when in its lowest position, is approx. 1/4. 3. Pump the handle in both the slow and fast rate, and then lower to test its operation. A If the forks raise but lower immediately you stop pumping, or if there is no fast lift, slacken locknut A Fig. 4, and screw the adjuster screw B anticlockwise, (screw OUT), half a turn and try again. Repeat the operation until the situation is rectified. B If the lift refuses to lower, turn the adjuster screw A clockwise (screw IN) until the forks lower when the lever is pulled to its Lower position. Tighten locknut B Fig. 4 5

OPERATION Position the pallet truck carefully, ensuring the load is centred about the forks and is completely stable. With the forks in the lowest position, manoeuvre the truck so that it is adjacent to the lifting point. Ensure there is no obstruction before raising the load, or that the load cannot foul the scissor action of the pallet truck when it is raised. IMPORTANT: 1. DO NOT enter the forks into the gap provided between the platform and lower cross member of a pallet, as raising the forks will damage the pallet and could cause the load to fall. 2. If the load is heavy, i.e greater than 500kg., DO NOT use Fast Lift beyond the first lifting stage...i.e. once the first stage of ram operation is complete. Select the middle position (slow lift), for the control lever. Failure to comply with this rule could damage the hydraulics. 3. When lowering the lift with the forks loaded, DO NOT yank up the control lever. Pull it up carefully and gradually so that the load descends under complete control. MAINTENANCE Always inspect the truck before use, to ensure there are no obvious faults, such as hydraulic oil leaks, wheels broken or damaged etc. If damage is apparent, do not use, but have the truck inspected by a qualified technician. Apply a few drops of light oil to all pivot points of the lifting mechanism..monthly. AFTER A PERIOD OF STORAGE If the truck has not been used for some time, it is possible that air may be present in the hydraulic system. If the raising and lowering functions do not operate correctly, it will be necessary to bleed the system as follows: 1. Slacken the Bleed Screw on top of the ram, item 5 in parts diagram, page 7, and pump the handle - slowly, a few times until oil appears, tighten the screw. 2. Pump the handle in both slow and fast modes until the operation is normalised. 6
