Manager s Corner Welcome back everyone! The Clubhouse closes the first two weeks of January and during that time the staff is very busy preparing for the new season. This year it allowed us time to develop a new menu, perform annual maintenance, make necessary repairs and complete a thorough cleaning. We painted the main dining room, front lobby and hallway, which thankfully has received an overwhelmingly positive response. Jimmy and his crew have been performing their winter maintenance on the golf course equipment, as well as assisting with clubhouse projects. Our well-rounded, knowledgeable staff has saved the Club thousands of dollars by not having to call in outside repairmen. Everyone works together as a team and helps out whenever and wherever necessary. State of the Club The Board, Membership Committee and Staff are brain-storming to come up with ways to attract new members without disturbing the current membership categories. Our Winter Membership Special is almost over so spread the word! Join today and new members will enjoy full membership benefits with no dues, capital reserve fee or food minimum requirement until March 1 st. That s not all refer someone now and if they join during the month of February, you ll receive a credit on your account for one month of your dues! Membership is the lifeline of the Club and the best way to develop it is through word of mouth from our current members; so if you have someone in mind, forward their contact information to our Membership Director, Susan Cruz and she ll take it from there. Be proud of your Club and share the experience with your friends and family. Board and Committees You re invited to attend the Annual Meeting held in the Clubhouse Banquet Room at 3:00 p.m. on March 19 th. The Board will review 2016 financial results and elect three new Board members. On that note, we are looking for members to serve. Petitions are available in the Business Office and are due by 5:00 p.m. on February 10 th. Committees have begun to meet and are making plans for 2017! I listed the committees in the January newsletter, so if you re interested in joining, reach out to a committee member or give me a call. Not only is this a nice way to get to know some of your fellow members, but it s an opportunity for you to have an impact on improving the Club. Restaurant Thanks to all of you in attendance, our Grand Re- Opening on January 17 th was very successful! During our two-week closure, Chef Paul teamed up with fellow staff to introduce an enticing new menu. So, if you haven t done so already, come out and see what all the talk is about! We welcome guests and encourage members to bring them. We want you to share your love of the Club with them, create memories here, show them what we have to offer and hopefully they ll desire a membership of their own. You can charge their meal on your member account or they can pay by credit card, it s your choice. For your banquet and event needs, Jen Sandy, our Events Director with nine year s tenure here at the Club, is ready and waiting to assist you! Her expertise will prove invaluable when planning your memorable, special occasion. Also, if you have a friend or family member, that s not a Club member, who s looking for a venue for a wedding, birthday party, etc. send them our way and we ll take care of them. Our non-member banquet income is an excellent source of revenue. Golf Course The weather this January has been very nice for golf, with 371 rounds played. Only one more month and we should be in great shape to get the rust out of our swings and prepare our game for the new season. Rounds played on the course in 2016 were 12,025 a decrease of 3,099 from the previous year. Closing Many important issues will be coming to the table over the next month and I strongly believe everyone is up to the challenge of choosing what s in the best interest of the Club. On that note, always remember that this is your Club enjoy it, use it often and if you have concerns or just want to visit, my door is always open! Judy West General Manager

Membership Interests From the Desk of Susan Cruz Each month when I sit down to write my article, I feel like I am always saying the same thing. We need more support on the Membership Committee. I cannot stress enough how important this is. We need new ideas on how to recruit members, we need help coordinating new member events, and we need some new faces! For the most part, the Membership Committee meets on the 3 rd Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. However, our next meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15 th. Please join us, bring some friends and bring some ideas! Feedback from the community about the Club and all we have to offer has been positive. We need to expand on that. When you hear someone talking about the Club or asking membership questions, jump right in and offer my contact information or get their contact information and give it to me. Invite them to lunch or to play a round. Do whatever it takes! Just remember arrangements must be made through me. Thanks again for all you do! Remember this is our Club and together we can make great things happen! Susan Cruz Director of Membership and Marketing We would like to welcome our new member: John Gentleman Attention Members! Elections for the Country Club of Culpeper Board of Directors will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at 3 p.m. at the Annual Meeting. Anyone interested in running for the Board should contact the Business Office at 825-1746 to pick up a petition. All nominations and petitions must be submitted to the Business Office by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017. Golf News Golf lessons are available to members and nonmembers. Please contact Mark Wolfla, Director of Golf, for more information or to schedule lessons. Please call the Golf Shop at 825-1748 to reserve your tee times. Reserving a tee time is the best way to be able to play at the time you want. On Mondays, if the weather man is projecting that the temperature is not going to be above 50 degrees for the day, then the Golf Shop will be CLOSED. Remember to check the Golf Shop for weather updates, as frost can delay the course opening time. Please call 825-1748 for the most up-to-date closings and for course conditions. Our Bermuda grass in the fairways is now dormant. At this time, we want to have as little cart traffic on the fairways as possible so we don t harm the Bermuda. Carts should be kept in the rough then cross over at a 90 degree angle to get to your ball. This process will make our fairways much stronger next spring. Let s take care of our course by following the fairway rules and if you see someone in the wrong place, kindly remind them of where they should be, or call the Golf Shop.

Tennis News Tennis lessons are available to members and non-members. There are various programs depending on age and ability. For complete details to include dates/times and pricing, please contact Dena Smith, Tennis Professional, at 540-229-0589 for more information or to sign up or schedule lessons. Chef s Corner As we begin this new year, I wanted to share some of the exciting things that will be taking place in the restaurant. After much feedback from you, the members, there will be discounted appetizers available during Happy Hour and rosé wine will be available by the glass. You may have noticed that there are no entrées on the new menu. I did this to be more flexible and offer more variety on a regular basis and to keep inventory lower to maintain a healthy bottom line, which in turn benefits the long success of the club. Also in the coming weeks, I've arranged to have my wine representative come in every month or so to give talks on wines and to sample some wines during her talk. Enjoy!
