Manager s Corner We ve gone quickly from freezing temperatures, to a month of rainy days and straight into summer weather! The Club is in full swing and it s time to dive in! I d like to thank everyone for their support to get us here - all of the committees, volunteers and especially the staff. Come enjoy all the activities - a day on the course, planned events, a delicious meal in the restaurant or a leisurely day at the pool! The first four months of this year have been very encouraging from a financial standpoint and we continue to work diligently to stay on this path. The Club is always fiscally challenged during the first quarter of the calendar year and I sincerely appreciate everyone stepping up to the plate - the restaurant staff for their warm and friendly service and great food at a reasonable price; the maintenance crew for their hard work on the course; the golf shop staff for their promptness in scheduling tee times, handling and cleaning golf carts, as well as providing advice and training; and the managers and directors for making good decisions and keeping under budget. In addition, I d like to thank the members for coming out and using the Club more and more each day. It s so refreshing to see new and long-time members bringing their friends and family out to share their Club experience. Let s keep up the good work and make this year the best ever by using and enjoying the Club activities, planned events, pool and our charming restaurant! Golf Course The greens are healing nicely from the aerification and in spite of all the rain we ve had, the course is in good shape. There are many golf events scheduled, sign up early so we can better plan the event. A quick reminder regarding a couple of points about golf course and cart etiquette: - During summer play, drive on the fairways as much as possible to avoid damage to the rough because we do not water it. Use the cart path to get to 90 degrees of your ball, then enter the fairway and go to it. If there are no cart paths enter the fairway and proceed to your ball. Remain on the fairway and return to the cart path when you reach the green exit posts. If your ball lands in the rough, drive to your ball, then return to the fairway or cart path. During winter play stay off the fairways as much as possible. (I will remind you of this in a later article.) - Get a handicap flag from the golf shop if you are handicapped. This will allow you to get closer to your ball even when there are restrictions, but remember to use common sense and stay at least 10 feet from tee boxes and greens. Do not drive on the fringe or apron by the greens. Our 30 Days for $60 Trial Golf Membership is in full swing, so please welcome our guests and encourage them to make full use of the Club. We already have two that have signed up as full time members! Restaurant and Events We re so happy to hear that you all are enjoying the restaurant! From my conversations with you and the comment cards we ve received, our diner s experiences have been very enjoyable, and with your increased participation, we will continue to offer you more and more. If every Club family makes one night a week Club Night, I will guarantee your experience will be pleasant and it will be beneficial for our restaurant as well. Jennifer s daily email informs you of Paul s specials and they are posted on Facebook, so it will be easy for you to make your choice. I hope to see you in the restaurant soon. Make reservations, if possible, so our staff can better prepare, or drop in and we will certainly do our best to give you an outstanding dining experience. Pool Jill Breeden, our Pool Manager, and her guards have done a wonderful job opening the pool for you and it looks great! We made some needed repairs over the winter and are anticipating a very busy season. Opening early was a big hit and I m glad we were able to do that for you!
I want to remind everyone of some things we have done to make your pool visit more enjoyable. We are not requiring pool passes, however please be sure to sign in when you enter the pool so we can track usage. Friends and relatives living in Culpeper County or any contiguous county are welcome up to 5 visits per person per year at a small fee and they must be signed in at time of entry. We are providing adult swim again this year and each member must fill out a waiver form, available in the business office, before attending. Don t forget this is only for members 18 and older and no one under 18 is allowed on the pool deck for liability purposes. Any child under 12 years of age must have adult supervision (at least 16 years of age) on the pool deck. Grandchildren of members with pool privileges are allowed unlimited visits with no fee. Those who are 12 and older are allowed at the pool without adult supervision, but must be signed in by the grandparent. When the pool staff determines lightning is in the area, the pool deck must be vacated immediately. This policy must be strictly adhered to for everyone s safety, no exceptions. Always follow the direction of the pool staff so we can have a safe environment for everyone to enjoy. I feel we have a great staff serving our pool and Jill does an excellent job making the operation run smoothly. We have several returning lifeguards this season and they, as well as our new guards, are very professional. They offer swim lessons and are great teachers, so if you are in need of this service talk to Jill or one of our guards. We are offering new items in the Snack Shack this year and on some weekends we will have our grill on the esplanade, offering hotdogs and hamburgers fresh off the grill at a great price, so please come out and join us! Closing Don t miss out. Check the website and the daily email, and sign up early. Jennifer Miller and Susan Cruz have done a wonderful job putting pertinent information in the emails. We would like every event to be full this year because it s all about fun and enjoyment. Come join us and make this summer season the best ever! Judy West General Manager Membership Interests From the Desk of Susan Cruz First, let me start off by thanking all of you that have referred potential new members. Water Aerobics Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 11AM Beginning Monday, June 6 th Pool News We re open! We had a little bit of a slow start with the weather, but things are looking better. We had a great time at our Memorial Day BBQ and it was great to see so many of you there. Because we are transitioning from the outside pool company last year to the pool being managed in-house this year, I will be reviewing a couple of rules each month in my article that the lifeguards and I will be enforcing. The first one is our diving area rules. This is taken directly from our 2016 rules that were mailed to each member. The rule states: Only one person is permitted on the diving board at one time. No one other than the diver is permitted in the diving area at any time. Diving is allowed ONLY in the 10 ft. diving area or during club-sanctioned swim meets or practices. Anyone using the diving board should jump straight off the board and avoid running or multiple bounces. Swimmers are not allowed to catch anyone jumping off the board. To use the diving board, the swimmer must be able to swim across the diving well unaided. We have lots going on at the pool this summer, so make sure you check your e-mail for updates. The swim team will be starting practices on June 2. There are four home meets. Come out and support our team! If we need to close the pool for the day due to weather, we will try our best to update you with an email. As always, come see me at the sign-in table if you have questions, concerns or suggestions. See ya on the deck, Jill Breeden Pool Manager Contact Lou Ellen Miller at 547-2380.

Chef s Corner Coming soon - our summer menu. This menu will have lighter fare and more salads and, of course, more local items. In this newsletter you'll get a preview of one our summer dessert selections, along with an easy trick on how to make easy but delicious caramel sauce. Take one can of sweetened condensed milk and place in a small sauce pot; cover with water. Bring the water to a simmer and simmer very low for 2 hrs. The only work involved is to make sure the can is always covered with water. After the two hrs. let the can cool to room temperature. Open the can and scrape into a bowl, if the caramel is too thick simple this with very hot water. For an added twist, add a few pinches of coarse sea salt for a sweet salty taste. Congratulations!
