About the Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation, Inc. The Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation, Inc. is an independent, not-for-profit educational institution dedicated to perpetuating Maryland s storied sports heritage. A Message from the Executive Director Babe Ruth has been called many things, the Sultan of Swat, the Maharajah of Mash, and the Wally of Wallop. But there is one nickname that could apply to both his golfing prowess and his baseball exploits the King of Swing. Babe loved golf. He played it nearly every day after baseball turned its back on him. And when the weather in New York got too cold, he headed south to Florida with clubs, knickers, socks, and sweaters. Golf was his second passion. He swung left handed, had a single digit handicap, and regularly shot in the 70s and low 80s. For a big man, used to swinging just as big, putting was his Achilles heel. He just couldn t hit anything gently. The Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation will honor the Babe with Babe s Celebrity Golf Outing, at the Woodlands Golf Course on June 18 th. It is a fundraiser to support the Foundation s mission, but it is also a nod to our favorite man s second love. I hope you will join us as a golfer and a sponsor.
