BRENTWOOD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL / ATHLETICS WINTER 2016 SPORTS

BCS ATHLETICS GEARS UP FOR WINTER As we get into district play with Fall sports and prepare for the playoffs, we also get excited for Winter sports! We are always glad to welcome back our veteran coaches like Devan Loftis and Cash Miller, and we look forward to our relationships with new Boys Basketball coach Jan Jernberg, and new Boys Soccer coach Jesse Jordan. Stan Caffey BCS Athletic Director We always want to represent our school and our Lord in a positive way in everything that we do, and we want our young people to be challenged in everything they do. The High School experience can sometimes be exhausting to parents and students as we balance the many activities, but my advice is to enjoy this time and years from now you will look back and miss these busy times. HEAD COACHES DEVAN LOFTIS HEAD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH Devan Loftis is returning for his 17th season as the Lady Bears varsity basketball coach. The Lady Bears have made the playoffs in thirteen consecutive years, winning their district eight times. The team has reached the final four five times, including two consecutive state-runner up finishes in 2013 and 2014. After graduating from Harding, Coach Loftis taught history class for 10 years before transitioning into athletic administration and now serves as 5th-8th grade athletic director. Coach Loftis enjoys coaching along side his wife Kaylee, who serves as the JV coach. Above all in coaching, Coach Loftis treasures the relationships with players and their families and the opportunity to use athletics to train for the greater race in following Christ. JAN JERNBERG HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH Coach Jernberg joins us this year as the Head Basketball coach and health teacher. He began his teaching career in McAllen, Texas and completed his public school teaching career in 2011 after 34 years as a head basketball coach, including 1200 career games coached, 21 times in post-season play and three state-tournament appearances. Coach Jernberg s professional career has included stops all over Texas before joining us at BCS. Honors have included numerous professional accolades like the Don Coleman state Coach of the Year and the Central Texas Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010, respectively. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, where he has twice served on the Board of Directors. CASH MILLER HEAD GIRLS SOCCER COACH Coach Miller has coached soccer for over 16 years, and has built the BCS boys varsity soccer program into one of the most respected and successful programs in TAPPS. In addition to serving as head coach for boys soccer the past 5 seasons, he has helped develop the entire BCS soccer program for boys and girls grades 5-12. Coach Miller has also coached the girls varsity soccer team leading them to their first-ever area championship last season. This year, he will be focusing solely on developing the girls varsity program. Coach Miller holds a U.S. Soccer Federation National C license and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Diploma. In addition to playing soccer for over 40 years, he has served as board president and coach on several area soccer clubs and teams. JESSE JORDAN HEAD BOYS SOCCER COACH Coach Jordan comes back to BCS after having coached multiple sports on campus, mainly JV & Varsity Soccer from 2007 to 2011. He helped lead teams to playoffs 3 years in a row and JV soccer to a 2010 tournament championship. Coach Jordan holds a B.A. in Kinesiology from Harding University and has over 7 years of coaching experience with organizations such as CoachUp, CC United Soccer Club, Lifetime Fitness, and Lonestar Soccer Club of Austin. Coach Jordan has been a USSF nationally licensed coach since 2008, and was nationally recognized as a top upcoming coach and featured in a National Coaching Spotlight Series.
