Pavenham Park Golf Club Seniors Trophies Pavenham Park Seniors Red & Yellow Ball. This is the same as the Yellow ball competition with the addition of red ball which scores triple points. See below for explanation. 1/3 rd Handicap allowance + Mulligans This is a pair s game where each player in the team has 1/3 rd of their handicap taken away and each player has 2 Mulligans given to them to be taken as and when they chose. AM-AM Team Stableford Teams consist of four players. You may choose your partners without any handicap restrictions. Each player plays a normal Stableford round with full handicap allowance. Scores for each player are recorded as normal - 4/2, 3/3 etc. - for each hole under A, B, C and D. The card is pre-marked to show how many players scores can count on each hole 2, 3 or 4. The total team points on each hole is then recorded at the bottom of the card and totalled as normal to give the team score. The winners will be the team with the highest number of aggregate Stableford points for the round. Texas Scramble This game is normally played as a four ball team, where all the handicaps are added together and the team gets 10% of the total of their handicaps (this will include points of a handicap e.g. total 76 10% = 7.6), if a four ball! 4 drives must be taken by each team member. The team then chooses a drive and that ball is marked, if on fairway each team member may place the ball within 6inches of the marker or if on the green the same marked place, if the ball is not on the fairway it must be dropped again within 6inches. The team chooses the best score for that hole (the team then marks on the card who took the drive), the score for all holes are added up and the handicap allowance as in e.g. 7.6 are taken away to produce a final score for the team. Dusty Bin. This is similar to a Waltz game but in reverse 1 st hole x by 3, 2 nd x 2, 3 rd x 1, 4th x 3, and so on. Captain v Vice-Captain Trophy The format is fourball better ball over 18 holes with each hole being won worth 1 point to the winning side. Halved holes count for nothing. The result of each match is added to produce the total number of points won by the Captain s side and the Vice-Captain side. The winner of the OPA Trophy is the leader of the team with most points. (Apparently OPA stands for Grandad in Dutch)

Chicago Format The Chicago golf format - which can be played as a tournament or as a betting game within a single group of golfers - starts each golfer with a negative amount of points, then awards points for positive achievements during the round. The object is to move from negative points into positive points - known as "clearing your hurdle" - and the golfer (or team) who gets farthest into positive territory is the winner. Starting Points for Golfers in Chicago Format The negative points each golfer begins with in the Chicago format are based on handicaps and begin at -39 (minus-39) for scratch golfers. Point totals then go up, towards, zero, from there one stroke/one point at a time: E.G. a 28 handicap golfer starts with -39 28 = -10 so there target is 10 point to get to zero and from there on into plus figures Scratch golfer starts at -39 1-handicapper starts at -38 2-handicapper starts at -37 Earning Chicago Points During the round, golfers earn positive points on this basis: Bogeys are worth 1 point Pars are worth 2 points Birdies are worth 4 points Eagles are worth 8 points Team Waltz Stableford A team normally four will say have hole 1 with a multiplier of 1, hole 2 x 2, hole 3 x 3, hole 4 x 1, and so on your total scores are added up and the greatest score wins. S J O Reilly Cup The competition is played from yellow tees with full handicap. All players start from the 1 st tee. Players keep a running total of the number of shots used and the objective is to get as far as you can round the course in 72 plus your handicap in shots. When you have used all your shots you should clearly mark your final position on the card e.g. 17 th hole, 75yds out or In 16 th hole or On 18 th green 4ft 5in from hole or if you do have shots left you must continue on the first and so on until all shots used up, (do check with the pro shop first before going ahead). You should bring a tape measure to measure positions on greens. The winner is the person who gets furthest round the course in their allotted number of shots. John Parrott Trophy Matches between Pavenham Park and The Bedford. Summer Merit The seniors Summer Order of Merit for 2018 will be as follows, all games to be played to the current rules of golf. 1. The S.M. will be made up of 20 qualifying events, as listed below, the best 10 of your scores as an individual will count towards your final result. 2. There will be 30 point available to the winner of each event, 29 to the 2 nd and so on down to 30 th place who gets 1 point.

3. All the events have been chosen to avoid all Senior Match Days, and any individual event not played (because of, for example, bad weather) will not be replaced. 4. The dates have been chosen so as to give a mixture of White tee competitions and Yellow tee competitions so as to make it fair to all. 5. Summer Order of Merit will run as now from April 1 st to October 31 st, but it will be much simpler, all the scoring will be done via the Masterscoreboard system so you can keep a track of all your scores as you can now with all our competitions. 6. At the end of the competition a result will be produced by the computer and Winners will be chosen from each Division, (3prizes for Div1 and 3 for Div2), to give divisional winners. 7. Division 1 is 0-19 and Division 2 is 20 onwards within the Seniors at the moment. Seniors Pairs & Singles Knockout Rules Knock Outs Draw Knock Out entries 1 March, Conduct Knock Out draw on 1 April, Conduct Knock out Plate draw on 1 June, All Draw Dates will be Publicised, and place sheets, on Notice Board, E Mail and Webb Site, all money must be paid by 26 th March (no late entries will be allowed), or the entrant will not be in the competition. 1. Format for both Pairs and Singles Each round of the competition will decided by 18 holes of pairs or singles betterball match play golf, played under handicap, according to the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in conjunction with the Local Rules of the course. Eliminating rounds will be on a knock-out principle. Any match that is all square after 18 holes will go to a sudden death play-off which will consist of replaying holes 16, 17 and 18 until a winner is decided. Any handicap shots are applied to all play-off holes. Each match must be played off the white tees.. The winner or winners will inform the coordinator and put their name on the place sheet, please don t forget we did have some entrants last year that thought mind reading was a gift of the coordinator it s not! 2. Handicap difference Pairs. Players will receive shots based on 90% of the difference from the player with the lowest handicap, half a stroke or more counting as one stroke. The partnership entitled to receive strokes will receive them at the appropriate holes shown on the official scorecard for the course based on the white tees. All players must produce their current handicap via either CDH No or via Pro shop for their opponents to see, if required. It is the players responsibility to check their respective handicaps and the shot allowance prior to teeing off in their match. 2a Ladies shoots If a Lady Player enters she must play off the White Tee card for shots but play from the Red Tee 3. Handicap difference Singles. Full difference between competing players handicaps will be taken as the basis for play, after that as Pairs above. 4. Substitutions Pairs only A substitute will only be allowed up to the point of striking the ball on the first tee of the first round match. From this point on there will be no substitutions. 5. Arranging a match Both pairs and singles have the responsibility to contact their opponents and offer three dates. Contact should be initially made during the early stages of each round. A combination of dates must be offered and agreed. No match extensions will be allowed.

Where an agreed date has been obtained this will be regarded as the match date. Should this date be cancelled by either party or parties and an alternative date cannot be mutually agreed within the date limit set for that round, the party responsible for the cancellation shall forfeit the match. If no result has been recorded by the final day of the round, both the pairs, or Singles will be disqualified by any of the Knockout committee, Captain, Competition Sec, Knockout coordinator, 2018 Michael Taylor michaeltgolf@btinternet.com Summer Eclectic 1. You can find the results by going to the Masterscoreboard Web site and under the competitions you will see eclectics open that and you will find the Seniors Eclectic. 11. This competition will run alongside the Summer Merit. 12. This competition will be Divisional (3 for Div1 3 for Div2). Division 1 is 0-19 and Division 2 is 20 onwards within the Seniors at the moment Jim Duffield Competitions Secretary 2018 revision. The A & T Trophy Bogie competition played from Yellow Tees with full handicap. Players get a plus (+) for a net birdie or better, a zero (0) for a net par and a minus (-) for anything worse than net par. The winner is the player with the highest total of pluses after the minuses are deducted. Players MUST write down their actual score on each scoring hole and not just + or 0. For example a player with 1 shot on the 1 st would write 5-4 for a zero (0). The A&T Trophy is one of the original competitions created when the Senior Section was first formed. The sponsors were Bob Aston (the A) and Francis Toole (the T) We lost Bob some time ago, he moved to live in Spain and although he did come "home" now and again I doubt that there are many current members who would know him.

Francis Toole passed away earlier this year and this will be the first time the competition has been played since his death. It would I think be a fitting moment if prior to the start we had a brief moment remembering two stalwarts of the Section and two fine gentlemen. Tony Knockout Plate. The Knockout Plate competition is for the Singles competition only, it is for any of the entrants who in their first round have lost, they are then able to enter the Plate to be drawn on or by the 1 st June for entry in the Knockout Plate. All other rules still apply Captain s Day Trophy The competition is what each Captain decides each year. Does not have to be individual. Pairs Australian Stableford Players compete as a pair, each playing the hole under normal Stableford rules with full handicap. Both players results should be entered on the card, but the team score is the two scores MULTIPLIED TOGETHER. If both players score 3pts on a hole, team score is 3x3 = 9pts. However if one player scores 4pts and the other a blob, team score is 4x0 = 0pts. So this competition is a good way of losing friends! Winners are the pair scoring most Stableford points for the round Jerry Hawkins Memorial Trophy This is a Pairs Stableford competition played from Yellow tees with full handicap. You may choose your Partner, but each Pair must consist of one Division 1 player and one Division 2 player. Players compete as a pair, each playing the hole under normal Stableford rules with full handicap allowance. The two players Stableford points scores on each hole are added together to give an aggregate team score. Winners are the pair scoring most Stableford points for the round. Greensomes Both partners play a tee shot at each hole from their designated tee, then the team selects a single ball to continue, and the partner of the player whose ball is chosen plays the next shot. The partners then alternate playing that single ball until it is holed. The handicap is based on the following formula: Take 60-percent of the lower-handicapped golfer's handicap and add it to 40-percent of the higherhandicapped golfer's handicap. The sum is the side's handicap. Or add the course handicaps of a side's two partners together and use 40-percent of that as the side's handicap.

PAIRS TEXAS SCRAMBLE 1. Each team will consist of two players, with a handicap allowance of ¼ of the combined handicap. 2. Both players tee off at each hole. The nominated team captain then selects the best drive and marks the position (within 6 inches) with a tee peg (not nearer the hole). A minimum of six tee shots per player to be used. The Card should be marked to show whose drive has been taken. The remaining six drives can be used by either player. 3. The other player then retrieves his/her ball. 4. The player whose ball has been chosen then plays his next shot first. 5. The remaining player then plays within six inches of the tee peg (not nearer the hole).note! Golf balls shall be placed on closely mown areas and dropped if the chosen ball in play is in the rough or a hazard. 6. Play continues in the same way until the green is reached with the selected shot. On the green the same method applies. The ball chosen is marked by a putter head length and players putt from the same spot in turn. Summer Salver This is an individual Stableford competition played off WHITE tees with Full handicap allowance. Yellow Ball Trophy This is a team Stableford competition played from yellow tees with full handicap. Teams of four players, comprising as far as possible two Division 1 and two Division 2 players, will be drawn at random from the entry. The yellow ball scores double points and rotates in strict order through the team hole by hole. If the yellow ball is lost or goes out of bounds then play continues for the rest of the round with a white ball counting single points. An extra two points will be allocated to each team which returns the yellow ball at the end of the round. All four scores count towards the team total on each hole. The winners will be the team with the highest aggregate Stableford points for the round. Seniors Championship -Gross and Nett Trophies This competition will be Medal play from White Tees over two rounds. There will be prizes for best three nett scores on each day, plus best three Nett and best three Gross aggregate scores over the two rounds. Entries are welcomed for play on both or just one of the two days. The fee will be 5 for both days and 3 for one day. Entrants may decide after the first round that they wish to play the second round also for a payment of a further 3, but will not be eligible for any of the aggregate, 2-round prizes. Entrants may only win one cash prize, but can win both Gross and Nett trophies. Autumn Shield This is a Pairs Stableford Greensomes competition played off Yellow Tees with 3/8 combined handicap. Entrants may choose their partner for this event if wished. Both players tee off on each hole. The better tee shot is chosen and the other ball picked up. The person whose ball was picked up then plays the second shot, following which the players play alternate shots until the ball is holed. Stableford points are calculated for

each hole based on the combined handicap and the winners are the Pair with the highest Stableford score for the round. Three Club Trophy This is a Stableford competition off Yellow Tees with full handicap. Only three clubs are allowed in the bag, one of which must be a putter Mulligans A mulligan is a second chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder. Its best-known meaning is in golf, whereby a player is informally allowed to replay a stroke, even though this is against the formal rules of golf. We do play this with some variations such as the amount of Mulligans to be taken etc. Division 1 v Division 2 This is as the name suggests Div1 against Div2 this will normally take the form of a modified pairs match play, the modification is the game continues until all holes are completed and the final score is obtained. Turkey Trot This is played as a normal singles stableford with the winner taking the Turkey. Chicken Chace This is more or less the same as the Turkey Trot. Gruesomes This is basically the same as Greensomes with one small difference which is both players in the team of two tee off and the other pair pick which will be there drive normally picking what they think is there worst drive after that it is as Greensomes alternate shoots, this should be treated as a fun game and taken seriously! Mid Iron Trophy <In abeyance>. Used to relate to matches with Chesfield Downs Revision 2018
