Many members assisted with securing the club and the club s boats. The head, facilities trailer and private boats had to be moved by direction of local authorities. Thank you so much to all members who helped make this exercise a success. No thanks to me whatsoever; we were occupied securing our clients marine assets. Thank you Terri, Elvis and Ed Keefer for coordinating that operation. If we have another drill from the threat of a storm, please keep in mind that the authorities, encouraged by MEMA, direct the evacuation of the harbor area. They may execute these orders even when lower level threats exist. If you have an opportunity and are able, any assistance you could provide with these evacuations are greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind that all privately owned vessels that are stored at the club must also be removed from club property. Please be available to move your own vessel, and have a plan of where you can move it prior to the evacuation order. You are encouraged to make your own call whenever a true and significant threat exists. In the maritime business, we never wait for an evacuation order to move or secure the assets. When our contracted commercial Weather Routing Service, WRI, sends us the alert, we immediately activate our Storm Mitigation Plan. We never wait for local weather services or local authorities to give us direction. We suggest you develop your own individual plan that is appropriate for your personal vessels according to your location and based on the threat. This will greatly assist the club in our storm preparedness. We have to tolerate hurricane season through November. I hope we have had our one and only storm drama for this year, but we must continue to be prepared. Enough of the serious business. The fun continues around your club. Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, all have something special. We also have the special events as noted in the calendar. Cruising the Coast is here along with its special events. The Saints are doing well this season, and the club continues to open on Sundays. Sandy is still serving food so come enjoy the Saints and other Sunday games. Please make plans for our general membership meeting coming up in November. We will likely have important club business that requires the attention of all members. We look forward to seeing you. Your Long Beach Yacht Club continues to be in desperate need of a pool. I ask that everyone continue considering this and assist us as we search for solutions. This issue will likely be addressed at our general membership meeting in November. Remember to sign up for club texts for up to date notifications. We often have entertainment and other events that come available at short notice. To sign up, text LBYC (all caps) to 33222 on your cell phone. You can always stop and restart the service at any time. Keep on Sailing on, D

Membership The October drink of the month is Crown Royal Hard Ginger Ale Alice Barnett Tommy and I took a little respite from this Mississippi heat and spent a few weeks in Wyoming and Colorado. We sure did miss all of our yacht club friends while we were away! We look forward to getting back to all of the activities that the club has to offer and hopefully that will include cooler weather. We also hope to meet our newest club members Barbara Kimball and Tripp Favret. Cruise on in to the Long Beach Yacht Club! Become a member of the club during the week of cruising the coast and pay no initiation fee. We offer both resident and non-resident memberships so invite your friends, family or fellow cruisers to join us. Applications can be found on our website and will also be available at the Country Cruisin Breakfast. Friday Night Bell-Ringer Joe Fleming Winners keep coming. September was another good month for our members who take advantage of the inexpensive, delicious meal, "Happy Hour Adult Beverages", and the random drawing for that $50 bar tab. Four names were picked from a container with the names of members who purchased a drink or a meal. Those were Tripp Favret, Bo Clarke, Ed Keefer and Joe Fleming. The only one who was not in the clubhouse when his name was drawn was Ed Keefer. Don't let this happen to you. Come and enjoy your Club! 2019 Officers and Board Nominating Committee Formed At the September meeting, pursuant to the bylaws, the following individuals have been appointed to the nominating committee to nominate a slate of names for 2019 Officers and Board of Governors: Darien Hill, Elvis Gates, Sandy Pace, Millard Quigley, June Wiggins, Martin Jones, Marguerite Hess
