The opening draw is set for 3 p.m. LAST TIME OUT Kylie Ramsland scored two goals as the Bearcats dropped a 16-5 decision to the Oregon Ducks. Megan Bell, Ashley Helmrath and Marissa Pierson each netted one goal for UC. Freshman goalkeeper Meg Gulmi (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) faced 38 shots against the Ducks and made 13 saves. THE BEARCATS-PURPLE EAGLES SERIES This is the first ever meeting between the Bearcats and Niagara University. THERE S NO PLACE LIKE HOME In their home opener, the Bearcats play host to Niagara University after returning from a trip to Eugene, Oregon. The Purple Eagles battled back from a 5-1 deficit early in the second half to cut the Colonial s lead to two, but RMU would outscore the Purps 10-1 over 13 minutes to take a commanding 17-6 lead. -Niagara sits at 0-4 thus far with losses to Temple, St. Joseph s (Pa.), Albany (N.Y.) and Robert Morris -The Purple Eagles are led by leading goal scorers senior Fran Pollastro (4) and sophomore Brittany Delano (3). On the back end, they are anchored by junior goaltender Paige Sasser. -Niagara begins the season with six of their first seven games on the road. -The Eagles are returning 14 of their players from last year; they also welcome 12 newcomers -Head coach Wendy Stone is in her first year with the program. CAPTAIN KYLIE Senior captain Kylie Ramsland led the Bearcats in their match against the Oregon Ducks with two goals scored and a game-high six draw controls; she also forced two Oregon turnovers. Senior teammate Marissa Pierson also netted her 56th career goal and her first of the season. DEFENDING BEARCATNATION The last time the Bearcats won their home opener was March 8, 2009 in an 11-10 thriller over Villanova. Cincinnati was led by thensophomores Natalie Starvaggi and Laura Simanski who each netted three goals.

CAT TRACKS The last time the Bearcats had four players with 3 or more goals through two games was just last year. Katie Kiriazoglou (4), Meg Bell (3), Kylie Ramsland (7), Marissa Pierson (3), and MacKenzie Parsons (3) all contributed goals in the first two games of the season. This year four Bearcats have contributed 3 or more goals. Freshman Courtney Curtis (5), sophomore Meg Bell (3), redshirt senior Kylie Ramsland (3), and junior Taylor Young (3) all have all scored to lift the Bearcats to a 1-1 start. WELCOME TO UC COACH OLIVER! Head coach Gina Oliver is only Cincinnati s second head coach in the history of the program. Oliver won her very first game as the Bearcats head coach on February 15, defeating Coastal Carolina, 13-8. With a win over the Purple Eagles, the Bearcats will be off to the best start in program history under a first year head coach. AND THE HONORS ROLL Courtney Curtis proved to be a defensive problem for Coastal Carolina, netting five goals and one assist in UC s season opener. For her efforts, Curtis was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week of February 16. STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT PAW The last time the Bearcats won their season opener was March 5, 2010 against the University of Detroit. The Bearcats prevailed 10-6. It was an all-around great team performance by the Bearcats with eight different players one goal or more. The last time the Bearcats won back-to-back games to start the season was the 2008-2009 season when they started 3-0 with victories over Presbyterian College, Duquesne and Robert Morris. TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK Along with Courtney Curtis five goal performance, the Bearcats got production from many other key players. Junior Taylor Young (3) and Sophomore Meg Bell (2) each contributed multiple goals, while Katie Kiriazoglou, Kylie Ramsland, and Ashley Helmrath each netted one goal. NEW HOME Cincinnati will make Sheakley Athletics Complex its new home for the 2013 season. The first three games of the season will be played in Nippert Stadium and then the Bearcats will move to Sheakley for the remainder of the season. Sheakley Athletics Complex has two fields, one 100 yards in length and the other 50 yards. The complex not only offers all sports additional practice space, the 100-yard field transforms into an indoor practice facility from November to late February with an air-supported bubble inflated over the field. BEARCAPTAINS The 2013 team captains are Kelsey Conway, Katie Kiriazoglou, Adrianna Piontek, Kylie Ramsland and Katelyn Wettig. TOP CATS The Bearcats return three of the top four scorers from last season in Marissa Pierson (27 goals), Kylie Ramsland (22 goals) and Meg Bell (21 goals). Also returning are Katie Kiriazoglou, who was second on the team in assists last year. HEAD COACH GINA OLIVER Gina Oliver, a former assistant coach at Duquesne University and United States Women s National Team member, was named head lacrosse coach at the University of Cincinnati on June 15, 2012. Oliver spent the last five seasons (2008-2012) as the Dukes defensive coordinator, where she produced a 2012 Atlantic-10 Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. During her time at Duquesne, Oliver coached six IWLCA All-Region players, 21 all-conference honorees, 13 members of the A-10 All-Rookie Team and 12 student-athletes who won academic all-conference accolades. A 2005 graduate of The Ohio State University, Oliver spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons on the Buckeyes staff, working under OSU head coach Sue Stimmel. While in Columbus, Oliver served as co-director of the Ohio State Women s Lacrosse Camp, while also assisting with recruiting, budgeting and scholarship duties, as well as travel and team practice planning. She joined the Duquesne staff in the summer of 2007. US Lacrosse announced in January 2013 that Oliver was one of 18 players named to the U.S. Women s National Team that is set to compete in the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup, July 11-20 in Oshawa, Ontario. Oliver was on the U.S. team that won gold at the FIL Women s Lacrosse World Cup in June 2009 and was named to the All-World Team, which is awarded to the best 12 players in the world. She was also chosen as one of 24 women in the country to represent the United States in international competition. A standout midfielder at Ohio State (2002-2005), Oliver was a four-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes and earned All-America honors three times. She was named an Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association/U.S. Lacrosse Second-Team All- American in 2003 and was a third-team selection in 2004. Oliver was a First-Team WomensLacrosse.com All-American in 2003 and a third-team honoree in 2005. Oliver was a First-Team Warrior/ Inside Lacrosse All-America selection in 2003. She was the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year in 2003 as Ohio State won the American Lacrosse Conference Championship and the league s rookie of the year in 2002. Oliver was also a four-time, First-Team All-ALC selection. The Pottstown, Pa., native is OSU s career leader in ground balls (236) and caused turnovers (201) and is second in draw controls (121). She is third in career points with 166 while ranking second in goals (125) and sixth in assists (41). She earned her bachelor s degree in education from Ohio State in 2005.
